DJ CURLY well the other day i was trying to explain to my mate the main differences between happy hardcore and hardcore the only one i could think of was there seem to be more lyrics in hhc than hardcore and probably a more violent beat in hardcore(like it hits you more)

HARDCORE MUSIC COMING ON STRONG
HARDCORE MUSIC ALL NIGHT LONG!!
Lixx You mean hardcore as in gabber hardcore? Easy. One is fun to listen to, the other is crappy mindf*ck music. Done :P

Midway_raver Gabber is more aggressive n is mind**** music i agree:)Happy Hardcore tends to have lower ( quite considerably) bpm's.....happy hardcore also tends to have more d n b style breakdowns in it...Gabbe ris just bnasically harder:)

Like a bolt of lightning it's so frightning..Get ur brain now we're igniting
Simon I kind of agree with Lixx I don't like gabba but what he's saying is he likes hardcore.

Original hardcore is more drum & bass. Remember if it wasn't for hardcore they'd be no drum & bass!!!!

Sy.

Brian K dutch "hardcore" was basically hollands answer to house, hence gabbahouse. it had it's happy phase in 95/96 and then went back hard.

the newer stuff coming out of holland now a days i don't particuallary care for. the stuff i loved was more the 93-96 dutch hardcore. 98 had a number of decent tunes put out but none quiet as great (imo) as the older stuff. the production was usually a lot better and they were basically breaking boundraries back then.

i guess they are now too but i don't care for the slower stuff =P
bring back the angry guitar sampling rob gee days ;)

hhc is usually a lot "cheesier" and not as easily respected by other genres than the generalized "hardcore."

bowzer I remember on another message board when someone had the same question... Deacon summed it up best by saying "HORAY FOR EVERYTHING vs. **** YOU"

strychnine While we're on the topic of gabber, can anyone tell me what the deal is with the 'hybrib' stuff Scott Brown plays (which I think has also been referred to as Nu-Style Gabber)? Like, I personally can't tell the difference between this and the Rotterdam stuff. Is there one, or is it just another horses**t genre?

Yeah in case I didn't say it clearly enough, I love happy hardcore, all the stuff from cheese to breakbeat to freeform, even a little happy gabber maybe. But straight out gabber hardcore, terrorcore, speedcore, all that stuff IMO is just mindless music that gives me nothing but a headache. I won't slag people for liking it but I have no problem stating that it just ain't my bag.

Brian K ^^^^
wuss =P

i guess you're just not headstrong enough lixx ;)

Lusive paul elstak played hard noisy (and 3/4 timed) gabba over here a few weeks back, i really dont like him.. or gabba anymore. I mean even after half an hour it starts becoming mindless and you find yourself doing aerobics on the spot.. maybe if i had a huge dose of drugs i would have enjoyed it like all the other speedfreaks.. but whats the point.

I say cheeze all the way.. and of course i love freeform and less cheezy hardcore just as much. but c'mon give us some melodies.

Lixx Well I do own "I Had To Kill A Lot of People" now. Is that headstrong enough for ya? :P
