Revs A friend told me she can't stand sirens in songs at all, and that she heard a lot of people can't. What do you think? I'm putting this in this forum but it also concerns Hardcore.
I don't mind them to be honest... sometimes I even like them. I'm now wondering if the majority of people really can't stand them!

Some examples:

latininxtc no, but I like song of the siren

SpiritWolf I love them, I feel like they add some energy track, as long as they aren't overused. I've been guilty of adding a siren to a few of my tracks as well. :P
Revs I agree, I also think they add some dramatic effect to the song :) And if used right, it can give a "End-of-the-world"-Feeling :P

Edit: Blackout 2008 (DeeJayBee & Diverse Mix) - Organ Donors also have sirens, but couldn't find it on Youtube except in the DJ Cotts EFX-1000 Mix, but you can also hear it on Trackitdown, Imodownload etc if you search on Google.
Triquatra sirens?

seriously though, loved em in Fury's 'Soundflow'
Revs Haha did I say something wrong or is that the word you use in english? :P

Sirens are a Greek thing, sorta like mermaids.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siren

About the OP, I got no clue what you are talking about. I found those songs offensive and bordering on ear r@pe so only skipped through but could not hear anything that sounded like a siren to me. If I were to describe a siren in edm it would be this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqIHVJX8HRU&t=150s
with the siren thing starting at about 2:47. In this regard, it pissed me off initially and I still think it is the weak point of that brilliant incredible tune and why I will generally prefer the noom mix.
Revs Yeah I know what it is, but you also say "Police siren" or do you say something else?

Err no that's not that at all haha. First song I posted at 1:22, second track at 1:06.

Edit: I don't really like this "police-style" sirene like in the second track by the way, I prefer it like in the first song, this "alarm-style" sirene :)
Lilley yeh mate, that's a siren. Triq was just taking the piss

Funny you should say that. Go back 40 odd years and that first one WAS a police siren, similar to the old air raid sirens.

warped_candykid I love sirens in songs. I love any type of noise in a song.

Ha! - Agreed, great song that, and some of the dane/trance remixes are pretty damn good to imo - I think the vocal is so strong it just can't be ruined in any remix!

Sure, as far as boobs go, they are pretty nasty. But they're still boobs (that haven't yet sagged to the groin area).

You just lost some man points.
Hard2Get I couldn't listen to the first song but i agree with Lilley regardless.

That's normally a safe position to take.
ultraskool Do You mean the hoover sounds or the jungle amens ? Horns 4 '94
Revs I mean the sirens :P haha
djDMS As the basis for a tune, horns and sirens are great.

If they're just randomly thrown in to cover up a lack of content they're shit.

And no, i don't have any examples!

This. ;) I used one in a tune a couple of years back but it fits in with the "theme" of the tune - http://soundcloud.com/audio-warfare/section-63-clip

Agreed ....and 'Section 63' is a fine example of sirens being used wisely. ;)

....and here's another fine example of sirens in a track - http://www.ionosphere.co.uk/AUDIO/Ionosphere-CRITICAL-ftJR.mp3

or, this one - http://www.trackitdown.net/genre/hardcore/track/2924696.html
