whatzup more production questions:

any advice on how to make a piece sound more like a song that goes somewhere, instead of a flat unemotional collection of patterns that use tricks like drum rolls, filter sweeps and breaks as glue.

seeking inspiration...

strychnine structure it more like a song. minimalist melodic intro, built up with verse on verse, separated by choruses, then into a breakdown and onto the final verse which then fades (structurally, that is; it doesn't necessarily have to be an actual fade) relatively quickly to the end.

having said that, you're probably not gonna end up with mixable intros and outros, but that's the way it is. 'songs' are designed to tell a story. 'tracks' are designed as chapters, and it's up to the dj to weave them into one long storybook 'song', so they have to be designed with mixing in mind. make the choice.
