For those of you wishing to pre-order 'Hardcore Underground 6' and / or Joey Riot & Kurt's 'This Is Powerstomp' album, you can now do so at the link below:

http://www.hardcoreunderground.co.uk/

You will notice that as well as the individual items, you can also buy these two releases as a bundle. This saves you money on shipping, especially if you are outside the UK. It is a model we intend to continue using going forward in an effort to offer value for money to our customers, without in any way compromising the quality or ethos of our products.

FAQ's

"What about Brisk's album?"

It's 95% ready, with only some tweaks still to do to the track listing for the DJ mix. The same is true of the Al Storm & Euphony album. Both projects will be made available as a bundle to incentivise the purchase of both products and reduce shipping costs in November.

"Won't Amazon mess up the listing, change the price repeatedly. whilst HMV put it in the Urban section"

Probably, if we were putting these projects through them. Which we aren't.

What about *insert project here*?

Two additional as yet unannounced projects will follow in November. "Happy Hardcore Underground", Sharkey's album and "HU Breaks Vol. 2" are all planned to hit before the end of the year but all are prone to slipping should it feel required to maintain the sort of quality you expect and we demand.

djDMS Yep, that'll do me.

Super excited to see Triquatra's track on there.
Samination Wow, I see atleast one Sy track :o. And it's nice to see that Kurt's remix of Power of Love is getting covered by Brown himself, unless it's Storm that played it :P

And, for the madness:
quote:
24. The Twins Artcore - 2012

oi, I claim copyright on playing that last on a set!!! If Ministry of Sound can sue Spotify, then I must be able to too :P

djDMS: I am not "feeling it".
kazukism92 Promising, so promising. IMO would be more powerful if someone added "Here I Am (F&D Remix", "The Good Inside" or "Don't Stop", but it still be so promising!
AceofSpades_Lorenzo yep! this is why hardcore underground should win best label again! xP
CDJay The good inside featured prominently on HU Breaks Vol 1, so we dropped it from this. You can presume that the F&D remix of "Here I Am" is on HHU.

CDJay
Samination Still waiting for a tracklist to HHU
CDJay That's a way off, I'm afraid. It's turned from digital bundle into something infinitely more interesting. However to do the concept justice takes a lot longer than chucking up some remixes of happy hardcore stuff we already have!

As these projects are completed, we can focus our attention on those latter projects. Handily, everything up to and including the November projects are pretty much done so that gives us two full months to wrap up the rest.....

CDJay
AceofSpades_Lorenzo Another thing I want to add about my thoughts on all these projects. It's seriously making me want to push the limits & spend hours & hours working in my own productions just so I can somehow be apart of an album in the future.
HollowRipper Amazing.

Proper disappointed Al Storms tidalwave remix isn't on it, but hopefully that'll appear on the next album. But amazingly chuffed to see Sy & Al Storm - Haunted on there, absolutely amazing tune, but just amazing to see Sy on it!

But yeah, exciting times!

Mortis Interesting.
Captain Triceps I'm another pleased to see Sy's name on there, I don't think I've heard it but it's nice to know he's not been completely snubbed.
Will definitely be buying this anyway.
Cyrax BOOM!
Thumpa Top work everyone! I've seen the messages going back and forth on this project and the sheer man / woman hours that goes into these albums is mind blowing. When you're lying in bed, someone is sorting licensing or contacting labels for credit info. Bravo.

Hope everyone enjoys our disc, bit of everything on there!
Ken Masters Looking forward to this, great variation by the looks of the tracklist :)

will be the first mixed hardcore album ive bought in a loong time!
Craigavon raver Been waiting for this for so long! great that its nearly apon us
warped_candykid That Scott Brown & Al Storm mix looks very vocally!!! :)
lurker Yep, it's a hardcore album alright!
_Jay_ Should be pretty sweet.

MASSIVE shout to Rowan for getting his track on there. I'll get you a drink at Stomp! in November if you're going.

Oh, and also pleased to see 303 Insanity on Thumpa and Obie's mix. Quality tune that I've been enjoying since Hardcore Undergound EP - Vol 4!

I've really liked that tune for a long time now as well. I whacked Al a tweet about this a few months ago and he said he had been lazy about getting it released and would do it soon-ish. I dunno if that's been delayed because it was decided it would feature on HU6 or what. But yeah, cracking track.

The Dopeman (from these forums) has done a wicked track using that vocal, as well. It's on my YouTube channel if you wanted to check out.

Unless he was just apprehensive about releasing because of the Sy thing. I was hoping it was something that was done just recently but having checked it out it's fairly old now.

The tweet was post "Sy thing" by a long way, so I don't think he was too worried about. Which is keeeewell. :-)

Agree about Rowan's track - it's super

And I stupidly forgot to pick up HU EP4, even while staying with Jon & Chwhynny! Totally my fault.

Track list was worth the wait. Looking forward to this!

LOL. What a fcuking idiot. My mind has been mush for the last two weeks (and I've not even had a drink!). Had three separate, unrelated illnesses in the space of ten days. So enfeebled.

don_simon3000 why they dont just ditch the 6 and add happy to the front change the tracklist and i would deffo buy it.
Dys7 ~~~
Triquatra Thankyou chaps!

and yes, I should be at stomp ;) though the thought of watching dean b2b himself sounds very erotic!

Crackin' album - looking forward to enjoying it with my earholes!

Quick question. If I payed with Paypal and the address on Paypal doesn't match the address i typed on the order form will that cause any problems?!?!
CDJay As long as PayPal processed successfully, it'll be fine. We wanted to allow alternate delivery addresses in order to facilitate gifting and accommodate people who flit from place to place (students, fugitives etc. )

CDJay
GrahamC I ordered the launch-pack, can't wait to get em!

Also wanted to say, cracking website, you can see the love and effort gone into it :)
djDMS Yeah, credit for a lovely looking site. Just like using my Windows phone!

Got the bundle too, despite not yet being a fan of this whole 'Powerstomp' malarkey.

Now I'm in 2 minds whether to listen to previews or wait....
CDJay I'd wait. One of the happiest side-effects of this model is that I no longer have to worry about randomly selected clips of every single track on the CD going up via Vendors the week before release.

There's enough stuff from these albums floating around in live-sets, podcasts, radio shows etc that by and large showcase what to look forward to without essentially ruining first-time listening for everyone.

Thanks for the support, guys. I can't stress enough how much we're entirely reliant on interested types shrieking delightedly about these and upcoming albums. There's been a *lot* of front loading in terms of time and financial investment (we haven't "released" anything since the start of the year!) so we really need this to "catch fire" as it were so we can get the next lot out and start planning for next year!

Pre-orded both myself even though I've never even heard this powerstomp stuff yet! i'm sure i'll like some of it, well I hope so! and every track will be new to me as I haven't heard any new hardcore this year, so looking forward to hearing some new tunes!
Mr igloo Definitely going to pre-order later tonight! Glad to see 'Feel The Friction' on here, great tune and hopefully Trooper makes more tunes in the future :)

nantk I saw last year a bundle with all hu series, but i couldnt buy then

do you know if there will be something similar to that?
CDJay We have very few of each album, in fact i bought the last 5 copies of hu2 from Genepool for 30 pounds each. It probably will happen, but you'll need to be a lottery winner fetishist. or mad.

What are you able to offer to me for this one + HU 1-4 + "This Is Powerstomp"? If you prefer to send me a PM, please feel free to do so.
Vladel it's not arrived yet
djDMS Who will be the first....
Claxton why has it not arrived yet!!! Pleaseeeeeeee
CDJay *The Inevitable Slight Delay*

One great thing about our honesty policy is, well, you actually couldn't make it up. Unfortunately there is a slight delay in our shipping of stock of 'HU6' and 'This Is Powerstomp' to you of approximately 8 days. It was seemingly going too well, wasn't it? The good news for the music, going forward, is that your collective response to pre-ordering both titles has been tremendous, and we're only a shade away from hitting the same figures in pre-sales as we were taking through Amazon! This has meant that we have decided to press more units of BOTH albums than we had initially planned for. Despite thinking this would have a 1-2 days knock on effect, max, a combination of this change, and some alterations required due to the artwork formatting process at the plant we use, has meant that all stock has been delayed in arriving with us far longer than planned as they simply cannot get everything done any faster. Pleas, tears and threats have reduced this time as far as it can be.

We are contractually assured that *all* stock will be heading our way in 7 days time, so we will immediately be shipping orders as soon as that happens. We have a good relationship with our manufacturer, and their products are always of a very high standard, however whenever any slight alteration to the initial process is introduced then there is a risk of this happening. Ultimately we have to hold our hands up and say that we shouldn't really have given them the excuse to be late.

Both albums will be worth the wait; it's only one more week in a year where there have been very few album releases, so we hope you won't be too distressed. The shift in the way we work, and the deadlines involved, have meant we're far more flexible than before. That said, we are still finding our feet; once again we're learning the hard way what happens when we try to press deadlines (no pun intended) too hard.

In future we won't commit to a release date until we have delivered all the required assets and got a contractually binding delivery date! Setting a release date and working backwards just results in needless stress for us and disappointment for you

CDJay
Vladel Gutted

latininxtc

That would defeat the purpose of selling a bundle if you're not going to ship them together. Plus they'll be paying shipping twice if they do that. If you can't wait another 8 days, then you have issues.
Rodz90 The only thing that annoys me is that you waited until the day of release to let us know.
CDJay Both albums were delayed for different reasons, we knew a slip was probable but envisaged a few days at most. Come Monday we were given a frighteningly awful date (as much as the entire original production time!) so had to do whatever we could to reduce. Not much point disseminating incomplete or inaccurate information!

Tip had artwork issue, hu6 had an inexplicable millisecond gap between tracks on cd1. Neither issue we have had before so it took time to rectify and triple check. Delays suck, hurling out 1000s of faulty (even if minorly so) isn't an option.

CDJay
CDJay I hasten to add that this was all a while ago, i thought they would worst case ship to us yesterday.

CDJay

That sounds like they where trying to press a CD burned from a split MP3. Are you guys gtting ripped of or something'?
CDJay LoL, no. We're dealing with the image type used for glass mastering by pressing plants, and noticed the millisecond gap on a test CD my end. Really subtle, partly due to where it occurred between tracks, but once you hear it it's all you hear from that point. So I had to make the entire image from scratch and resend it after triple checking. Still can't figure out why it happened, first time in ever so many.

Ah, well.

CDJay
Rodz90 tbf at least it's just the one disc that had the split, would have been a right bummer if it was all of them that had to be re-done
masterbucks Im gagging to get my hands on this.. pre-ordered the double pack for some powerstomp action too. NOM NOM NOM \o/
CDJay I can honestly say no one could ever find these delays more traumatic than us. I lose years off my life each time.

All is forgotten if the result is good.

CDJay

Captain Triceps Do we know when we are likely to receive our copies? Tomorrow?

Sorry if it's been stated clearly already, serious man flu makes reading a ball ache.
djDMS Says being posted tomorrow on Facebook
CDJay .... you know when people say "what can go wrong, will go wrong?"

Yea, I get that.

We are expecting stock tomorrow. If you can actually believe our run of luck, the courier van had an accident and required the (apparently undamaged) stock to be put on another service knocking us back from Weds to Fri (11-12, fact fans).

This gives us approximately 5 hours to book all the parcels into the despatch manager, pack them up and get them ready for collection. Fracus and Darwin will be joining Chwhynny and myself in a great big HU postfest. Good luck to us, yea?

Then I can get back to wrapping up the next three. It's only now beginning to dawn that the usual frenzy and calm cycle will no longer apply. It's *always* going to be like this.

*whimpers*

CDJay
CDJay In almost related news, the printer I got to more cost effectively print invoices is absolutely F**ing enormous.

This affords some small comfort.

Claxton Ahh bummer, was hoping to play some stuff at Stomp! tomorrow night. Nevermind!!

Torpex They're being packaged and posted atm. :)
CDJay CDs are here. Arrived at 4:35, royal mail pickup was at 5. We managed to get a few out. The tracked service we are using has to be picked up from premises, there are no Saturday collections. We can drop off international signed for and airsure at the sorting office tomorrow, so we will do them first. The remainder will all be done ready for collection on Monday. It's a tracked 24 service so anyone with an UK order in place should receive their album(s) on Tuesday.

*resumes doing*

Hah! He didn't. In fact he's far more useful than the rest of us, he used to do similar things at alphamagic. He even organised all the stock and waste items. I may buy him a ribbon or something to profess thanks.

Last one to order, too, weren't you, Jay? Haha! Good lad.
CDJay International orders, up until ~ midday on Saturday, shipped on Saturday.

The bulk of UK orders went out today, I cannot express the horror and emotional scarring endured in order to make that be the case.

Any overnight orders, and international orders that missed the Saturday cut off, will go out tomorrow. From that point we'll be shipping out this, and other current/future projects, every weekday.... albeit on a 48hour service rather than the trackable 24 hour service we used for delayed pre-orders.

......... enjoy. Spread the word, feedback, as per

CDJay
djDMS First 3 discs devoured and VERY impressed so far.

First 2 are as good as expected, with some exceptional tracks.

But CLSM & Entity's mix is absolutely monstrous!
Vladel Ok i got my bundle today including the Ep vol 4 and thought i'd listen to that first (first time listen when writing as always).

-Fools throttled is a remix of an old prodigy track i think? I wasn't overly bothered with that one to be honest.
-Silk cuts revised is pleasant enough and i don't recognise the vocal although i feel i should.
-Forgive me is a pretty forgettable breaks track.
-suited and booted is ok and sounds a bit powerstompy without the stomp
-You said is more breaks but a bit better than the Fracus & Darwin effort
-303 insanity sounds a lot like some of the 90's freeform and i quite like it.
-Just a ride uses lines from one of my favourite comedians in bill hicks and Fracus & Darwin put a nice track around it! that's the 4th or so Farcus & darwin track i've liked in the last couple of years!!
-Crash well hmm the less said the better really
-DBl3 isn't bad if i'm honest but i'm not crazy about it.
-Twice around the moon is nice but not quite strong enough for me

Anyhow on to the main course being HU6 and as it's a mixed album i'm not gonna go track by track like the other stuff but i'm quite looking forward to what i would consider the traditional hardcore disk. I'm not overly bothered about some of the new Scott brown tracks as they have already been released but i haven't heard much Al Storm for a while.

The space invader update is a nice start but then what??? NOOO DUBCORE!! GAH HORRID SHITE with a nice breakdown and then more of that horrid shite. If you could cut a minute out of funky town and put something normal around it, a nice track would result. There's a lot more where that came from too although Haunted by Sy & Al storm isn't bad and Feel the friction is worth a listen or two. Guiding light is ok and so is the power of love powerstomp. Overall that disk is a mixed bag and perhaps if i didn't already have 4 of the scott brown tracks i would have considered it good but i'm really disappointed with the amount of dubcore on there.

Disk 2- I don't usually like Fracus and Darwin together but i have liked some of their new stuff so going in with an open mind etc.

-I really liked the original of don't be lonely on HU1 i'm not a huge fan of the remix because i think it's lost a lot of the ambient sound of the original.
- I really like the love of my life update! very well done. Promises is also very good!
-I already have coming back to me and that's a great tune. Be the one and pacific sun are also worth a listen and Thoughts and smiles is a great track and s shame it only gets sub two minutes.
In Fact it's a very good disk and i'm quite impressed. WELL DONE Mr Fracus & Mr Darwin.

Disk 3- Breaks aren't really my thing to be honest so most of it passes me by but i know good tracks when i see them:

Feel it by triquatra and Alive by Entity and Chwhynny are good picks of the bunch but say goodbye is my favourite from that disk.

Disk 4:- I'm really expecting not to get much from being freeform but usually there is something i can pick out.

Well for a start HATE the ascending angels remix and what a way to ruin one of my favorite freeform tunes of all time and as for the rest well.... everyone needs a drinks coster.

Overall the album is better than the last one and the most impressive work comes from Fracus & Darwin. I'm really hoping that thoughts and smiles by Chwhynny gets a full release at some point because that's my tune of the album.

On to powerstomp!!

Edited to ask

is that good or bad?
CDJay The eps are usually just dj tools and long unreleased tracks. I ummed and ahhd about including but thought given the delays... Heh.

Give Funky Town some time, it's a grower. Honest!

Chwhynny will be happy about Thoughts and Smiles, it's an F&S tributey thing actually intended for HHU where it will be longer with less modern percussion.

Keep it coming, y'all!

CDJay
Chwhynny I am indeed happy with that! Thanks, glad you enjoyed my tracks! Makes it all worthwhile :)
djDMS I meant it was good. Very VERY good!

No EP for me though :-(
arpz Just flicked through the Powerstomp unmixed very rapidly, a few stand out tracks on there but I'm not into quite a lot of it, that's actually what I expected - I'm not massive on his style but there's a couple of remixes/old vocals that I'm feeling and that's worth the entry price alone.

HU6, F&D is on now, but I'm only on track 1, I know I'll love it but I guess I'll come post after I've heard a bit more
CDJay Gah, if you order a bundle in future make a note and i will add.

TBF Vladel might send you his if you make empty promises with your eyes....

CDJay
arpz minor irritation Jay... restarting the numbering?! Grrr!. .. :)
Thumpa We included the Douglas remix of Ascending Angels to flow into the Endemic remix and then into Astrid and the whole section sounded amazing but the Douglas remix had to be taken out and the Endemic remix extended in the mix and it didn't come out like we wanted it to. I could moan a lot more but I'm staying pro, cos I am pro.

A coaster though? We spent 2 and a bit days sweating in my decks room doing that mix, sorry you didn't like it but I think there's some great tunes on there!

Ripped CD1 to the iPod and gave it a bash, skimmed some tracks to get through it but impression is that this is a cracker of a disc. I can see this getting hammered in the car! Also nice to see it is not a 100% SB & AS showcase which some mixes can turn into.

AceofSpades_Lorenzo Will post feedback once I get my copy in the mail ;)
Rodz90 Disc 1 - Quite like this one, although it didn?t blow me away - stand out tracks are Kerrang!, Music Blocks, Don?t Doubt Me, and Complicated.

Disc 2- Wow!!!! Fracus & Darwin have outdone themselves; Free From Form is awesome! really great catchiness right from the start. I really enjoyed the whole disc tbh and loved the style of hardcore showcased. Top job.

Disc 3 - I was expecting something equal to disc 3 from hardcore underground 5, unfortunately this disc didn?t deliver - it had potential on some tracks, say goodbye, Feel It, and the screwface remix are really great, but it wasn?t a touch on the breakbeat disc from 5.

Disc 4 - Great disc! really enjoyed the mix of freeform on there and i think Thumpa and Obie have done a great job showcasing what?s about at the moment. Some nice Gabba at the end as well.

Overall great job, nice packaging too, very professionally finished product, added with the bonus EP disc; thank you hardcore underground!
CDJay Thanks for the feedback!

I should note that this is the first breakbeat hardcore disc we've had, CD3 last time was predominantly 4-beat with a retro tinge.

Give it a few more listens, gwarrrn

CDJay
Mickey Init I've spent all evening putting it on to iTunes/iPod. I'll get through both albums tomorrow and Friday, hopefully.

I can safely say I won't be disappointed, though, as I've seen some of the tunes that I've heard on the HU Show, SoundCloud and other podcasts in the tracklisting!

All mixes look good but Disc 2 looks mint!

CDJay In the current climate it's... brave

CDJay
Cyrax Had the CD a few days now and it's wicked , loved it , nice variation, really well produced good party music.

The Track that Technikore and I produced on disc 4 is only the short edit minus the breakdown and neuro tesco checkouty bleeping DNB bit, see below :

Forthcoming Stamina !

Quicksilver Just got this, ripped CD1 and listening now to it. I'm on the fifth* track and I keep asking myself... why did they rename This Life to A Little More?
CDJay Euphony and Vicky Fee wanted it as such, and as it's their track that's what happened

CDJay
Maggers After a lengthy journey around the northeast US (through the same sorting facility an hour from me twice!) I finally have my cd's. Before receiving it I knew I would probably like some of disc 1, some of disc 2, would love disc 3, and some of disc 4 (Gabber isn't for me). Will post a proper review when I have more time, but this had 4/4 hardcore that I actually enjoyed, and that surprised the hell out of me because it's been a while since non-breakbeat or freeform music kept my attention. Can't wait to give it another listen. Definitely LOVE the clsm remix of Paradise, Oh Yea, and Sy & Al Storm - Haunted.
Quicksilver Okay I have listened to all CDs now and my favourite is absolutely CD2.

My favourite tracks, upon having it for less than 24 hours :P...

CD1
Music Blocks (though this one was a favourite even on Point of No Return)
Don't Doubt Me
Under My Window (also quite old)
Guiding Light

CD2
Free From Form
All Night
Drop This
Love Of My Life (Brisk 2013 Remix) (anyone else reminded of Crazy Love??)
Coming Back To Me
Be The One
About To Fly

CD3
Going Under (Skeets & Ian K Remix)
Alive
Need You More
Say Goodbye

CD4
Eh... I'm a huge fan of freeform but not much stood out here. Have to listen to it a couple more times I think.

I didn't know you would get the HU EP Vol 4 along with it, that was a nice surprise and I am absolutely in love with Silk Cuts Revised - Vol 1. Doesn't it end a bit abrupt though? Feels like someone cut out a part between after the final drop and the outro. :P

Okay, so. Overall, a very fcuking good album. Probably doesn't quite beat Hardcore Underground 4 as my favourite, but it's not far off. For those people that have been slightly distressed about Hardcore getting too Dubby and Electro-y - then this album should restore some faith and encourage those that were thinking of giving up on Hardcore to not do so.

The Scott Brown & Al Storm mix is very strong. Ever-so-slightly disappointed to see a small number of older tracks on there, but other than that - it's a great mix. The stand-out tracks for me are Guiding Light, Stylin' On You, Breaking, Feel The Friction and Extermination. Additional mention to Daniel Seven for Valley, as well.

The Fracus & Darwin mix is probably my favourite. The first forty-five minutes in particular are phenomenal. The Don't Be Lonely and Love Of My Life remixes are off the bloody charts, especially Don't Be Lonely. Gonna make a bold statement and say that it's better than the original. The Promises track is a bit of an interesting one. When it's being mixed in it so gorgeously-uplifting and chirpy, and the main riff and thrust of the music is, again, really quite uplifting. But the vocal is quite, I dunno, melancholy in nature. Good quality, but just a bit of a contradictory kind of vibe. Tell you what, I would love to hear an instrumental of that. But yeah, I'm digressing - the whole mix is bang-on, basically. Proper bloody good stuff.

Generally speaking, Breakbeat Hardcore doesn't do it for me. That's not because I've not opened my mind, or because I've not heard the right stuff - structurally, affectingly, feelingly - it just doesn't push my buttons like four-four Hardcore. So, it seems a little silly for me to leave feedback on this mix. I have listened to it all the way through twice, however, and found that Rowan's track Feel It is easily my favourite. Alive is exceptional, as well, actually.

Freeform. My passion, interest and familiarity with Freeform has grown exponentially over the past twenty four months, and this mix is a powerful example of why. Proper ridiculous collection of individual tunes, and a proper ridiculously well-structured and organised mix. Fcuking loving some of those harder sounds at the end. The Like A Bulldozer remix is fcuking amazing. Douglas' remix of Fulla Culture is absolutely huge. Difference is a great track, as well. Great to see Technikore involved in something like that! Plenty of other tracks in there that deserve mentions as well (including lots of gorgeous uplifting stuff from the likes of jD-KiD and 3Star etc.). One of my favourite tracks of the year is on there, as well - Latika. Proper close call with this and the Fracus & Darwin mix. I think this Freeform mix will mature like powerful cheese and go on to become one of my favourite mixes of recent years.

Overall, a pretty special album. Confidence-inducing stuff (for people's Hardcore-outlooks in general).

Fracus & Darwin - Coming Back To Me
Oh, man.......... such a damn great/happy/fun tune.
CDJay Definitely got something in mind for JAKAZiD & Shimamura

CDJay
AceofSpades_Lorenzo My favorite tunes from disc 3

Chris Ross-Heaven
Sam B-Soul Fever
Al Storm-Breaks, Beats & Some Pianos
Need You More(Darwin Remix)

Overall the mix is very "powerful", I love it just as much as Disc 2 but in a different way

4/4 seems to be very "inspirational" to me
Breaks just make me go nuts due to how much energy there is behind it with the kick & snare combos.
djDMS Keep trying to write a proper review but getting interrupted by various tunes jumping out at me when i least expect it!

And for me, that's what makes HU stand out from the crowd. It's not just the variety, it's the depth
_Jay_

Deep.

Ravechief Giving most of the CDs a few listens now.

CD1 Scott Brown & Al Storm
I found this mix hit and miss. It has some very nice tracks but overall I didn't find the mix amazing. As a result some track skipping has occurred on repeat listens. The Endymion track is very nice as well as the new Scott Brown stuff.

CD2 Fracus & Darwin
It pains me to say this as I love Fracus & Darwin's work but this mix was my least favourite. Possibly because I really enjoyed their HU5 mix with Brisk and it didn't live upto that CD. There are a couple of cracking tracks in this mix however, such as the Brisk remix of Love of my Life and possibly the best Klubfiller track I've heard.

CD3 CLSM & Entity
I love breakbeats more than any other style so this mix was always going to please. Some really awesome tracks. Most notable are the Screwface remix, You Are Not Alone, Say Goodbye, Soul Fever and Need You More.

Not really a bad track on this mix. The only negatives for me are the fact there are a few older tracks on there and some of the mixing/transitions felt lacklustre or forced to fit all the tracks in.

CD4 Thumpa & Obie
I was sceptical about this mix, mainly because I wasn't sure what to expect; as Thumpa has really pushing the freeform at the moment but also having been into most styles at some point and with Obie pushing his DnB Drop Ya Jaw stuff.

However after a few listens I love this CD. For me it's the best mixed all of the CDs, nice transitions, breathers, build up and energy. Plus there's some really nice tracks scattered throughout the mix. Namely Paradise, The Catalyst and Fulla Culture. Also the Twins Artcore track at the end is pretty epic, it might not be for everyone but for me that style is the true essence of spacey trippy techno music.

Overall a solid comp, and definitely the best hardcore album of the year for me.
Quicksilver Can't.stop.listening.to.About.To.Fly.
Quicksilver I think this album is climbing up to my #1 spot of all HUs... Seriously unbelievable good stuff on there and every second day I open up my eyes to a new track that I fall in love with.

CDJay
djDMS Right, at long last here it is!

Actually, waiting a month or so to do this means this will be a 'proper' review and not a half-arsed one thrown together after one listen. (ie, OMFG DIS IZ ACE LYK)!

CD1

VERY eagerly awaited! Scott Brown needs no introduction, and i am a massive Al Storm fan. For me, he's filled the giant SB shaped hole in Hardcore over the past few years better than anybody, so the 2 of them teaming up was a dream come true.

The danger was to expect too much, and looking back i probably did. That's not necessarily a bad thing though because it's still a great mix!

Many highlights for me, some immediate, some growers.

Pretty much everything with SB or Storm involved was an instant hit with me. Those, backed up with solid tunes like Feel the friction, the always welcome F&D tunes (age not an issue when they're so good), Valley by the ever-improving Daniel, 7 ;-), and the always excellent Technikore make it a top quality mix. A few what i would call fillers on there but you can only work with what you've got and those 2 certainly did!

CD2

Well, it's Fracus & Darwin innit!

I admit to finding a lot of F&D stuff hit and miss over the years, but the trouble with setting high standards is that it's easier to be disappointed when something doesn't quite hit the mark.

If i would have written this after 1 or 2 listens i'd have been saying something like 'Hasn't grabbed me like the other mixes, could be a lot better'.

So glad i waited!

Further listens revealed much more than i heard at first. I knew the tracks were good, but didn't appreciate how good until about the 4th or 5th listen. Free from form, All night, Don't be lonely remix, nothing left to say...BIG start! Could have gone badly wrong after that but despite a few lesser tunes the momentum didn't slow down much at all. Other highlights (after neatly glossing over the mid way 'fartcore' section) Fast forward (love Entity SOOOO much), Coming back to me, Codex, This, Thoughts & smiles.....pretty much everything really!

A really, really good mix.

CD3

I badly wanted to listen to this first, but managed to hold off.

CLSM & Entity = Dream team!

The breakbeat equivalent of SB & Storm as far as i'm concerned - One legend, teamed with one massive (but criminally underrated talent), simple as that.

From start to finish, near perfection. I'm a big BBHC fan but that makes me quite picky. No worries here. A rave in my own living room! Despite having the CD, i'd pay money to hear this exact set at an event. Only gripe here, i wish there was more of Entity's productions. Let's hope there's some to come.

Best mix of the 4 by a mile for me (maybe the piano's and rave stabs appeal to old timers like me).

CD4

I was a bit worried about this one.

Nothing wrong with Thumpa & Obie's credentials - they deserve it as much as anybody, i think it was more to do with my still finding Freeform to be very inconsistent (despite the recent resurgence). Yes, the big tunes are out there, but finding them all in the same place at the same time is a big ask.

BUT, where a Freeform mix would normally have to be carried by the odd track from a legend A la Kev Energy or Sharkey, the new breed have really done the business here. Lots of new talent coming through and it's great to see them showcased here.

I really enjoyed the mix - particularly the middle third, but overall a great representation of where freeform is right now.

Still not sure yet how this compares to the other HU albums - time will tell on that one. But overall it's easily my favourite album of the year. The variety, quality and effort that have gone into it make all the HU crews sleepless nights and cold sweats well worth it!

Oh, there will be.
Entity ^^^ I've had to take time out due to a plethora of reasons, but will be producing again soon. Having said that I have just crocked my hand by falling down a manhole as I was walking to my car in the dark - joy!

Also, I don't like loading mixes with my own stuff. I'd rather showcase good music from others like it used to be, heh :)

Thanks for the feedback peeps!
CDJay Cheers, dude!

djDMS An absolute pleasure :-)
Entity DMS. Love you too! Thank you for the review.
HollowRipper I know im late on this but i've just got round to listening to it. Only listened to cd 1 but holy mother of god! It is absolutely incredible! Just so many happy uplifting slammers on there.

Literally, Amazing!
latininxtc Just quickly have to say how fucking massive this album is! I've spent the last 3 days listening to the whole thing nonstop! Review to come!
Elliott Disc 1 was alright, second was very good, last two were decent. Can't work out if all the rave reviews on here are simply because it's a HU album.
Rodz90 I have to say Thumpa & Obie, your disc is starting to be listened to more than the second, tracks like Astrid, Leap, Latika are outstanding! Good job and fantastic mix!

Or maybe some of us enjoy different things?

The worst thing to do would be pile false praise onto HU. It's one of the only labels where feedback is encouraged - and used to improve future products so saying everything is great when it isn't would be counter productive.

Thanks!

lurker CD 1 was a fun listen. CD 3 was straight-up good music. CD 4 was amazing and it was foolish of me to expect anything even slightly less than that.

Fracus and Darwin's CD was ridiculously hit and miss. Is it bad that I thought Jump and Own Groove were better than every track with either Fracus or Darwin involved except Nothing Left to Say?

Yes very bad.

If you didn't appreciate that CD, then clearly you are not a fan of the HU sound and probably never were. I'm sure you found HU2013 to be a masterpiece...

Seriously what is your problem? It's like non believer! from monty pythons life of brian. People can have their opinions without you slating them every time they like something you don't vice versa. You can't call someone for not enjoying one disk on an album and slate their love for the label.

Yeah, you're right. I'm just not hardcore!
CDJay Now, now, kids... Play nice!

It's a comp, by and large people will prefer different cds, tracks etc. That's good, i don't see any universally derided discs and some roundly slated by one are exalted by another.

So whilst *I* disagree that cd2'is hit and miss, that's just my opinion. If you didn't rate any of the F&D stuff then yeah.. I can't see cd2 becoming a fave .

Are you still butthurt that I caught you in a hypocrisy over your hatred of "dubcore" in the 1st HU6 CD and your love for it in HU2013? He clearly asked a question and I answered it, a bit sarcastically and I think he did notice some of that sarcasm.

I honestly am not the least bit surprised that he liked both of those tracks considering that they come from artists that are a bit more mainstream in the scene, and most American UK hardcore fans are more into the mainstream sound of UK hardcore than more edgy risk-taking sounds like HU. That's why DS, Breeze, Chris Unknown, Hixxy, Dougal and Gammer never have any issues with gigs in the US they always have gigs to look forward to every year in California, Arizona, Toronto, and a few other places.

I have nothing against someone listening to that side of UK hardcore because as hard as it is to imagine, I actually do like that side of UK hardcore as well they make some real catchy fun stuff, I just sometimes do not like the way they go about things like Breeze and Gammer feeling like they just got assraped over 1 negative comment out of hundreds and hundreds of positive ones.

But I will always favor the HU side of UK hardcore because they came at a time where I was getting a bit tired of hardcore and was on the verge of going on to listen to something else. They brought in something totally new and different that I haven't ever heard from UK hardcore, at least not stuff that was easily accessible to an American. I never apologize for being an aggressive defender of their products and music because I have a lot to be thankful for them. Not only did the label teach me how to appreciate the new and refreshing sounds they brought to the scene and to me, but they've also taught me how to appreciate what the rest of the styles have to offer, especially in freeform and the mainstream UK hardcore scene.
lurker I don't think anyone here would remember what I posted on USH or said in KraftyRadio chat, like, 4-5 years ago, but if they did they'd be laughing at how dead wrong you are. Also, I said I enjoyed three of the mixes. Does that mean anything to you? Or do you seriously think Fracus & Darwin's CD is the most "underground" and "risk-taking"?

Yeah, this was totally about him. A lot of Americans actually do know how to read. Surprising, huh?
CDJay Think he was being self referential. Aaaaanyway, let's PLUR this up a bit. It's an opinion, presented as such. Opinions are good. Feedback is good. It's *all* good

Vladel I also said previously as latininxtc really doesn't seem to be able to read at all. I don't like dubcore but was suprised by how much i liked Klubfillers work on Hu2013. That doesn't make me a styles/breeze etc fan. I used to like the clubland albums until #8 and #9 which i didn't buy either of because of my hatred for that sound. I find that the dubby sound can work very nice if it's got some good vocals and melody but such things are rare so my position has not changed nor is it hypocritical. The music one of these producers has made crossed into the area of music that i like that is all.

I am also a fan of HU but like others can find a lot of Fracus and Darwins work to be watered down drivvel (Ie Hu5) I found their disk was very good on HU6 which i didn't expect and as much respect i have for HU as a label i will tell them the truth about what i think of their work and i think that is what they would want.
CDJay Entirely correct!

Janster CD 1 is a bit of a weird mix cause Marc Smith is a weird guy. Haha I know that doesn't make sense, but it's a good joke. CD 2 is filled with absolute stompers. CD 3 is a good mix cause Marc Smith is a good guy. Okay, that makes even less sense but I like Marc Smith. He's a good guy. CD 4 is a good ups on the freeform tip. Yeah that joke about Marc Smith was good, but Hardcore Underground 6 is even better than that joke. Okay maybe it's really me that's a weird guy. To be serious, the only thing I thought it could have used something like I Know Where I Stand, maybe somewhere on the Fracus and Darwin mix. But alas, maybe the next entry in the series will have some tracks in the vein of that effort. Yeeeeee-haw.
