HKLPanda This has probably been asked before but I wanted to know what people thought:

Question 1: What do you think of MCs during live HHC sets?
a. Love em'!
b. I wish they would shut the f**k up!
c. What's an MC?

Question 2: What do you think of scratching and sampling during HHC sets?
a. HHC sets without scratching are just not complete
b. I never wanna hear a "HA HA" sample ever again in my life.
c. What's scratching?
DJ STYLUS Microphone Controllers and HappyHardcore DONT go together. Leave that sht to garage musik keep hardcore without the 'whistle possy' and the 'hardcore family u r wkd' It wrecks the toonz and fuks me off!!

Some Scratchin is ok deependin on the song, If the song has boring bits in it E.G Shooting star (Ham Remix) Then U should scratch as Sy does loadza times!

I don't wanna see any of you walkin', U'd betta be runnin'. . .
Jaide I personally don't really like MC's during hardcore sets...atleast not a whole lot of it...it tends to annoy me..maybe a phrase or 2 during the set isn't too bad..but i've seen some MC's go WAY overboard and it just over powers the music and makes me wanna yell mean things...and that's not a good sign!

Scratching on the other hand. I love it!..Not sure why...But it always seems to make me happy. And I always hear the crowd get into the music a little more when you see/hear a DJ start to scratch...

milo i agree with jaide, mc's get anoying, a little bit is awesome, but usually u can't udnerstand a word they say so it doesn't matter. but scratching, if timed right and dun right, kicks ass=)

"It's all good..."
DiamondDog I think some MC's really add to the music, usually ones that don't say too much, such as Ribbz and Robbie Dee, they just keep the crowd going and make sure a good time is being had by all, on the other hand some really are just annoying.

Some scratching is good, if it's done well, such as Sy, but some DJ's mixing suffers because of it, naming no names (Hixxy), through lack of time to get the next track ready, and I think the mixing is more important to the set.

Well, that's my opinion anyway.

Would Tommy Kirkwood, and Lynne come to the surge tent out front immediately, this is proper urgent.
Midway_raver i always fort mc was master of ceromony, I think Mc's add to the atmosphere and even on cd's and tape packs i love to hear em, especially sharkey, storm and live lee ( when vibes does a set its average unles she canes classix live lee adds thats umfink 2 him IMO ). I think mc's shud have intelligent but short thinsg 2 say after a bit teh mc's constantly shouting whistle posse bloooooooowwwwwwww evry 5 misn does get a lil' iritating but doen properly it is a bonus to any hhc set.

Like a bolt of lightning it's so frightning..Get ur brain now we're igniting
Brian K for the most part i feel mc's should shut up and let the music do the talking. but the occasional input from mc's are nice, especially funny shit =P

scratching is the same thing, when used too much - annoying. i've heard stomping sets w/o scratching. i've also heard sets that were ruined by scratching.

SuperHenke I love good MC's and scratching.

manic Luv a DJ who can scratch and nows when to scratch. As for the MC, coming from Australia I don't mine the accent of the UK MC's and there is not that much MCing in Sydney.

I was sent to outer space to find another happy place. Now i'm left here all alone, a million miles away from home.
silver I don't mind MC's as long as they know that they have to MC in small amounts otherwise it just pisses me off espically we I am DJing and please please don't keep stopping the music and doing rewinds to say something stupid.

you, me and hardcore forever.
DJ Mouse ^^ you get that all the time here. all my mates listen to garage and all you ever hear on the tapes is "RRRREEEEEEEEWIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNDDDDDD"
it's sooo annoying. like 2 or 3 times in some songs

anyways to answer the first question i don't mind scratching...if it's good, and not too much yet not too little mc-ing

DJ e-Klyps MC's are very important IMO. Otherwise ravin would just be like goin to a club and most people would stop dancin and not be hyped all night. However the MC does have to be a good one, a bad MC will ruin an event.

miss-mitzi i really dont know! sometimes they sound spot on but other times u just think come on mc wot r u chattin about?...... an y is it that on the tapes the mc's r always louder than the dj? ..... when u r at a rave the mc does help bring u up but on tapes im not so sues ... with the exception of the raves that i actually went to then i just get flashbacks an all sorts then it is ok!!!

If computer games effected us kids, we would all be runnin around in dark rooms munchin magic pills and listenin to repetative music!
milo MC does mean master of ceremonies, not whatever the other dude made up. I've yet to her a good live mc cuz i can't understand what on earth they are saying is it just me? it just sounds like dadadadada ravers! daaa dad dadada hardcore! *screams whistles ect ensue*

"It's all good..."
sunrize I've only had an MC once, it wasn't too bad. He only had me stop once, it was kind of neat. But from experience I don't really need an MC to hype the crowd.

Scratching is great, if the dj can do it right and at the right points. During breakdown's I think is a prime time.. or during some boring bits. You can really add to a song by doing scratching/sample rhythms, its like adding additional production to the track right on the spot.

Sy was a huge influence to me as far as scratching techniques go. When I heard him doing scratching overtop of a mix I was blown away. I was even more blown away when I had the chance to use three deck's and do this for myself. What a ruuuush! :)

So it seems to be that the final conclusion is to not overdue it. This goes for both the MC & the dj doing the scratching. :)

peace,
barrett

HKLPanda Hey Silver,

Have to agree, if I had a dollar for every time I've heard the Shooting Star rewind (somtimes up to 3 times in one set, yeesh) I'd be a very rich boy. Actually, it was funny when I saw Brisk and Ham live, and when Charlie B stopped Shooting Star for the rewind, Ham just shook his head in shame.

And yes, Sy's scratching over mixing is one of the coolest things I've ever heard. Has he done it live? I think I've only heard it on Bonkers so I figured he might be getting a little computer help because it seemed that at some points he was scratching right through the entire mix between two songs and I didn't think that was possible.
M.C Menace Whats an MC. ha ha Only joking. I luv MCing it gets the crowd up and jumping. As for scratchin. I luv it to.

M.C Menace - were raving from 7 till 11 were ravin in a hardcore heaven
DiamondDog I've got loadsof tapes with Sy scratching live on them, I think he does it over all his sets. On Bonkers he uses 3 decks so he can scratch over the mixes, obviously he's not as good as me at it though...

Would Tommy Kirkwood, and Lynne come to the surge tent out front immediately, this is proper urgent.
DJ Mouse i mix on 3 decks, and it's a real buzz like sunrize said to be able to scratch on top of a mix. but what really gets me going is beatmatching all 3 at once.it's not easy but when you have them all perfect it rocks! hixxy does it on bonkers 1 at one point but it's a little sloppy.

--------------------------------------------------
DJ Mouse - "Winning a war doesn't determine who's right.... winning determines who's left"
DiamondDog Hixxy's mixing on Bonkers 1 is terrible, if that was mine I would be ashamed, not one is in time properly and although he plays good tunes on that CD his mixing and scratching completely ruin it for me.

Would Tommy Kirkwood, and Lynne come to the surge tent out front immediately, this is proper urgent.
