bobthebrave I brought a discount drum and bass cd pack from this year and its the first time I have brough one since helter skelter's nightlife.

But I was very dissopointed to find that it all sounded the same and none of the DJ's really stood out. Esp when the same tracks are played but all the different people.

What I ask is the new comparing to the D'n'B of old, does any body else think that it has lost its orignality and have the DJ's lost personality. BTW I was a huge fan of Micky Finn and Rush Hour.

I also hate the way the MC insist on reloads when the DJ has done a good mix as its spoils the flow but thats another story.

Brian K maybe that's why it was discounted =P

and jungle parties are notorious for having each set filled with atleast 3 rewinds

"we'll delete the weak"
bobthebrave It was slammin' vinyls NYE 04-05

so since it was the nye event it was supposed to be awesome? maybe they figured most everyone out there is going to be f*cked up and they won't knowtice if we all play the same tunes.

in 2002 most the productions sounded almost exactly like productions from 4 years earlier.

lol. Listening to it I know what u mean. How come that the D'n'B scene is so popula as in they always get room one at large multi genre events like helter skelter or slammin' ?

Entity I don't like the current stuff that much, most of it is TOO repetitive. I like the old style dnb.

And as for the mc's calling for rewinds - do they have to reload every frickin' tune? I thought DJ's were supposed to keep the music flowing continously without interruptions?!?!?!?

brown mickey finn old skool good

DJDURSTAN Lets face it D&B has been fairly uninterestin for a few years now and since the bloody dreadfull clownstep revolution it isn't worth the time of day in my opinion. I run a D&B night and i have just quit. The music has got worse than i could have ever imagined and the bloody garage loving idiots that have started turnin up ruin the vibe everytime.

you and me hardcore forever!!!!!
Cyberpunk Paul Oakenfold and DJ DB. Theres some good Drum & Bass for you.

Life is too short... lets go Hardcore!
Cyberpunk ....Transmutator.... they are good too but if you wanna find some of thier music, I suggest you go on Ebay or something as their music is relatively old (1996).

tommy_renegade drum and bass now is far better than it has ever been, the production is amzing, there is so many varied styles incorporating jazz and reggae, to also incorporating the old skool sounds, rinse out!!!

Damn right.

Good stuff will be produced, So will Shit stuff. Same with Hardcore. Vote with your wallet. It will encourage the future production of stuff similar to what you like that's being produced at the moment.

I like the fact, that when I play Drum 'n' Bass, you can get the ladies dancing with some tunes, yet create a mini moshpit with another! All in the same genre! Reggae and Jazz to Industrial Metal & Gabba, as far as influences are concerned, that's what what I call variety!
kathryn First started listening to drum and bass back in 92!
I bought the 'Dark side of drum and bass' on tape thats fooking ace!
It starts of with 'come and feel my energy' and its got a real dark tune on it called 'Dark side'
Have got some tapes i.e 'Jumping Jack Frost' and 'Vinylgroover'
pezwhatley Has Drum&Bass lost its way? Yes & No - Basically that CD you bought gave a snapshot of one aspect of DnB, not the full picture

Yes - The standard big raves filled with the usual names that appeared on the flyers years ago with the odd new DJ playing very similiar, formulaic tunes but then this could have been said about raves years ago.

No - John B (as mentioned by Fraud) with his electro stuff, all the guys at inperspective records (check their website for a few sets), nights like Technicality, Hospital Records, Traffic, etc all offer quality drum and bass with minimal MCing (So only very special tunes get a rewind, as should be the case). Plus there are a lot of people out there putting on their own nights (like the Uncertified/London DNB guys) and making their own tunes that don't fit in with the "Big Rave" style of DnB

Just like with Hardcore, Drum and Bass has many different sub-genres so all you need to do is keep looking and you'll find a sound you'll like. If the only thing on offer for Junglists was the typical Big Rave sound I would have ended my love affair with the music years ago
sanity At this point the most interesting DnB to me has to have lyrics or some kind of creative improvisation that jungle usually brings. DnB at times, no matter how hard or soft, is ambient because of all the beats they mix in. It's halfway up the ladder to becoming white noise.

I'm normally stuck to the artists who are at the top of the world right now: Pendulum, Technical Itch & Dylan (Their collaboration on the album Technical Freaks), Omni Trio, Ed Rush and Optical, and ANYONE on the Moving Shadow label.
