Back in the day when hardcore was advertised on telly, Bonkers & Hardcore Heaven CDs were advertised in Prime time tv occassionally, but it was mainly on a morning when they were on, when the Big Breakfast was on :)

I disagree entirely. It doesn't need to be shoved down people's throats but there's no good reason not to advertise. I only got into hardcore less than two years ago because in America there's like no outlet for me to hear music like this if I was just going about my own business. I would've much preferred to get into the music many, many years ago but now it's my loss.

Why do you want non-Hardcore people getting into Hardcore? Well I was a non-Hardcore person early 98. I'd never heard it and didn't know what it was! Now I'm a dedicated raver who does everthing I can for the scene!
Think how many people there are out there who don't know about Hardcore but would love it if they did!
More ravers=good!!!

it doesnt always work tike that tho
im not saying dont promote hhc all im saying is there are 2 many kids out there wi bad attitudes like all those gayridge kids i dont want them spoiling MY happy hardcore
im only talking from experience i mean in england how often do u really c hhc advertised yet so many people like it!!
If computer games effected us as kids, we would all be runnin around in dark rooms munchin magic pills and listenin to repetative music! |

How exactly would they *spoil* happy hardcore? Are they gonna hold a gun to Brisk's head and tell him to stop producing awesome tracks, or maybe hold Hixxy at knifepoint and make him produce 2-step? Please explain ...

as i have said b4 i usually only go to raves and my experiences of these brats r exactly that!! one of them did pull a gun out on one of my m8s and 3 djs i know have had their vinyl smashed all cos they wanted garage
i know that maybe advertising hhc could convert some of them but i would rather they just stayed in their own clubs an left me alone i just dont like their attitude if they are listenin to choons bout killin people y would they wanna listen to hhc....
when our partys were advertised the nxt sat we were bombarded by underaged gayridge kids and ok so now ant hten there is the odd fight (and honestly it isnt that often ) on the first night after being advertised we had to close at 3am as opposed to maybe 3pm there was a big difference
can you understand y im against it now .......... im not saying dont advertise all im saying is b careful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If computer games effected us as kids, we would all be runnin around in dark rooms munchin magic pills and listenin to repetative music! |

ahhhhh I see your point - these kids either (1) go to the parties without any kind of love for the music or (2) start listening to the music and go the parties but don't bother changing their attitudes, and either way they ruin the vibe. Clear as Evian.
Then again, it's questionable whether the HHC scene's future can be secured by just word of mouth or luck. IMO *some* advertising/commercialising is necessary to bring in the new breed of nutters, in which case some balance has to be found between not reaching enough of an audience to sustain the scene, and reaching too much of an audience and attracting the wrong kind of people.
AFAIC though it's the party vibe that's at risk, not the music itself (which some people have argued it is). The good producers will still make good tracks, and it's these tracks that people prefer to buy. Sure, if the scene turns full-commercial then we'll get a flood of sub-standard releases, but they'll only sell so long as the scene *stays* commercial and there are people in the scene stupid enough to pay money for them, and even then it's only gonna be the money left over after the good records sell out. If and when the scene downsizes, it's the lousy tracks (and producers) who'll lose first. Economically, then, the good producers are in a pretty strong position if the scene turns commercial.

imo the people who truely like happy hardcore love it with a passion and that isnt gonna change no matter how much it is advertised so thats kinda a waste of money!
all these kids listen to aparticular type of music for a few weeks or months then go on to something different
If happy hardcore was widely advertised do u think it would kill the scene off completely?
i dont c how it can appeal to the gayridge kids anyway but mayb it could convert the trance ones ............ well i hope so anyway!
and the tekkkkkno heads r half way there anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!
If computer games effected us as kids, we would all be runnin around in dark rooms munchin magic pills and listenin to repetative music! |

Advertising won't make any of *us* love HHC more (I don't think it's possible), but what happens when the current generation stops going to parties and stops buying records? Sure, there's a hard core (hehehe) of ravers who'll be listening to Eyeopener on their death-bed, but the vast majority of HHC'ers *will* move on, or at least step down their consumption of HHC dramatically. Where will their replacements come from?
Word-of-mouth, multi-genre raves, and lucky finds (as in some dude just happens to pick up Bonkers 3 in a 2nd-hand bargain bin somewhere and decides to buy it) will only go so far in converting new followers IMO. There is a need for advertising somewhere.

nup, but hhc raves are often advertised in club/rave 'zines like 3dworld (although i once saw a hhc rave advertised in a liftout mag in the sydney morning herald, which is our premier newspaper).
