CandyAss I was thinking http://www.123dj.com/mixers/vestax/pcv175.html

or maybe http://www.123dj.com/mixers/pioneer/djm300.htm

But I'm open to suggestions because I'm not an expert on audio and I really want something that's solid. I hear that Vestax PCV-175 is good for hardcore and I've used it once.

hardcorelover cant go wrong with Numark, Pioneer or Vestax

CandyAss Um, that depends on what model you buy. I have a Numark mixer right now and it's kinda' shit. It's the 1001X and was only $100. It was very dependable for a long time, but now I need something better.

Anyone know of a really good mixer that isn't over $400?

silver Get the Vestax it has PCV fader's ... they last like 20 times longer than other faders.

you, me and hardcore forever.
Kaffine That's not true that you can't go wrong with Numark... ;P

Ever seen a DM905? *Shudder*

It's got a firmer crossfader than a radio shack mixer...

hardcorelover thats not in the price range shown

**** TRANCE
Kaffine You could go for a numark DM3002X or a Vestax PCV 175...

ALL NUMARK IS SH*T

I used to be a raver, used to take lots of E. Now I just smoke weed, and you know I will Succeed. :)
CandyAss So what would you suggest then?

I'm pretty much set on the Vestax PCV-175 now, but I'm always willing to look at other options.

Cynical Blak

ironically im in exactly the same position as you in UK and the vestax and the pioneer are the two mixers i narrowed it down to. Im set on the vestax now, if you get a chance to use one, you will fall in love with 'em. Whatever you do dont get Numark they're sh1t, ive had two, including a EM260 and yup they're sh1t!

silver This is how I came to the conclusion that Vestax is better, I went down to the shop with a happyhardcore record, got the staff guy to hook up three different mixers one at a time and I played the record on all of the mixers (using the same equipment - just a different mixer)... The Vestax sounded much much clearer than Numark and the other one (which I forgot what it was)...

I recommend you do the same.

Kaffine For whoever was considering a pioneer, one word:

NO.

I dunno if you hear what happened at Hullabaloo: Digital Outlaws, but their pioneer mixer went down middle of the party and DJs had to spin with all their equipment on the fritz.

That is not true, dont forget about the Penny and Giles faders on the new Rane Empath. Those faders will outlast ANY other on the market. I think they are guaranteed for like over 2 million passes.

You are trippin. Pioneers are WORKHORSES. My 600 has lasted soo damn long and been put through some rigourus tests at parties. Granted the sound quality isnt as clear as a Rane, but they will last. Perhaps the sound guys at the party neglected to keep the air intake vents clear, so I bet the mixer may have overheated. But still by any means, Pioneer makes a solid mixer. (I am only refering to the DJM600)

Kaffine It's up to you in the end, but I would never trust ANYTHING to a pioneer mixer. They're nice looking, and packed with features, but when it comes to reliability, after the horror stories I've heard...

saintberry numark, you have got to be kidding.

vestax make mid to bottom of the range top quality mixers, for the price if its a vestax you cant really go wrong.

the djm300 is a handy little mixer and quite a lot of good features IF!! you have a set of pioneer CDJ decks, other than pluggin them into it, there not really good value for money, pioneer pack lots in but what comes out is far from crisp sound...i still cant figure out why heaps of clubs/raves use the DJM600 over here in OZ sure that sampler is mmm nice, and ooo the effects but the faders and shound quality leaves a LOT to be desired.

i take it your talking US dolars? if so...id be getting something like a PMC-05 pro II, why not the PCV175? cos battle mixers are better for mixing HHC IMHO :P

other mixers you could take a gander @ are the new stanton SK series and if you were willing to spend just a tinsy little more (you wouldnt regret it) you could prolly hunt down a Rane TTm-52i mmm mmm mmm

also check out ebay...there are heaps of mixers up there, and replacing the faders isnt costly @ all really (less its some rotary biaatch) and anway if its a good mixer your getting second hand the faders wont need replacing...cos if its good it will have @ least VCA faders and have a few hundred thousand cycles left in em ;)

CandyAss Yeah, I was talking US dollars. Hopefully I'll have enough money for the Vestax PCV-175, it seems really solid and I've used it once. It's like $300 at Guitar Center.

I won't buy a Rane mixer because I have an ex-girlfriend with that name and she's a b!tch. I know that's a stupid reason, but hey, they look kinda' tacky as well.

Peter_Go_Zania ^^^^^ That is a pretty stupid reason to not want quality over crap. Personal hang ups should not influence your decsion of what gear to buy. Rane's are probally the best mixer on the market if you have quality in mind. The only 2 mixers that even compete with Rane are Allen & Heath (xone 62) and the tascam X9. But hey, thats only if you care what your sound is like.

CandyAss I was just kidding about that...but Rane's are kinda' expensive and not what I'm looking for really. I think there's a lot of quality Vestax and Technics mixers as well. Is that Tascam one really good?

Peter_Go_Zania yeah, the X9 is good. All I gotta say is parametric EQ baby.

Kaffine Rane is what EVERYONE is looking for.

Once I saw a rane in a pawn shop, (back when I was a wee stupid selekta) for about $100 and thought, "Naw, already got a mixer..."

Damn me...
