Okay so I'm not into breakbeat all that much and I've just been pissing about on FL and basically slowed down an uplifting orchestral drum and bass track down to 140bpm, sounds much better. Just wondering though, is uplifting orchestral breakbeat a thing? Or am I going down the wrong lines in terms of genre classification?
I looked it up on Google and somehow it referred me to uplifting hardcore :| If uploading a clip will help just say, not sure if I explained myself very well :P
_Jay_
Dunno if I'll be able to help with the classification of it (but at a guess, just uplifting Hardcore Breaks?) but I definitely want to hear a clip. Sounds awesome.
Karthy
It's not hardcore though :P
I've uploaded a clip, the intro and main bit, I mean it's breakbeat as in it has a breakbeat, I've just never come across 'uplifting breakbeat' so I'm wondering if there's a specific term it's hiding under :P
I don't really know too much in the genre, but go for breaks...i'm sure you'll come across other artists/music similar Hybrid are awesome though, so is BT....chicane used to be good too ;)
Kail
Here's a short cut of my old track, produced in '07, which is exactly an uplifting orchestral breakbeat/trance. Maybe it will help. Such style is non existant, at least I haven't heard any similar track to mine. http://soundcloud.com/rancen/i-miss-you-cut
*edit* also thats a great track neko! have to put it on the purchase list!

As long as u pump the breakbeat it is the thing, though might be Alternative Breakbeat Hardcore. And if u add the specific D&B bass then its alternative D&B. And why would u care anyway? Produce what u want to produce.
cruelcore1
I love trancy D&B. I bet many people wouldn't even think of calling it Freeform lol but it seems to be.

Bring it on, man! :) I actually would like to listen/create more tracks in such extremely unique style, but so far I'm on path of hardcore. :P

I dunno guys, i think you're being too picky - its too close to just regluar breaks :P
Damn, thats a massive amount of low bass. My monitors crying for mercy. :) But I dont hear orchestral elements nor uplifting.

Haha, I was actually just interested, I'm not a fan of breakbeat at all really but I do uplifting melodic stuff. Just wondered if there was anything similar floating about that I havn't heard of, it could be my open door to breakbeat land ;)

mmmmmm i'm still not hearing much difference between what you both posted and all the ones i've posted :P
This is funky breaks. Where's epic orchestral part and long uplifting melody? That's the difference. :)
Triquatra
you're talking about the difference between two songs though - essentially all the elements are there to make them identical genres
a bit like comparing a Gammer tune to a Darwin tune...essentially different, but still essentially the same genre..
Hard2Get
Speaking of melodic breakbeat, this is the most melodic breakbeat tune I've heard, and have actually needed it ID'ing since 1999. It's really obscure though.

Not all elements, as I said before. Let's say it's a hybrid of styles. Let's compare
Gammer's remix of Styles & Breeze - The Beat Kicks
to
Technikal Remix of MDA and Spherical - Cosmos
The Beat Kicks is hardcore/trancecore, Cosmos is hard dance/trance, and all the difference in just few more bpm's and it's a ****ing different genre already! lol But in our case the difference is even more considerable, most important that it's totally different mood and contain other styles elements which are far from breakbeat.
You know, it's like saying that "DJ Quicksilver - Free" pizzicato house...
...is melodic trance. The Devil is in the details.

You do realise that it's possible to create a song that doesn't fit into any genre right? It doesn't have to be anything, it's just a song.

Do you realise that I'm explaining the same thing? :D

Belonging to a genre is one of a songs best selling points. If person a recommends a song to person b, person b is going to be curious of what genre it is (so they have a rough idea whether or not they'll like it). If person a says its not anything person b may be disinterested.
However I do agree with you to a certain extent :P

That's only relevant from a financial point of view. Real music is not about money.
Triquatra
so if we're going to say the devils in the detail...you're now agreeing with me? :P
pretty sure these kinds of breaks have been all over computer games too (specifically futuristic racing games like Rollcage.
i'm coming at it from a slightly different angle in that, just because you add or subtract a few things doesnt really just bring it up as a new style
fair enough add adjectives to describe mood or feeling, but at the end of of the day its still just breaks

Hmmm... it still applies to promotional purposes though. So no, not necessarily. I enjoy making music to share it, I'm sure that's the same with most others. The money aspect is still there though, if you put the whole 'love for the music' reasoning aside, you still need to pay for gear and equipment, vocals, mastering, travel and any other losses. I'm not saying money should be the reason behind making music, but surely if an artist loves making music so much he should be able to make it for a living without being questioned about selling out? :P
@Triquatra - I understand where you're coming from, and I don't mean to be too specific or even try and squeeze out a new genre or anything, I was just wondering if there's any orchestral uplifting breakbeat :P I am taking half a liking to some of the stuff you're posting though ;D
Triquatra
lol, me too - I was all like "hmm, i should really look into this genre more!"
Triquatra
btw: loving both your tracks (Kail/Karthy) :)
