Excalibur Gotta love the music from Plok! everything about that game made me feel like a romp through an 80's hallucination. Everything from the incredible percussion to the rich amount of layers and on an SNES game no doubt. This is what I consider to be the pinnacle of video game music. The game was ****ing hard as hell though!

Yoko Ooh wow, I listen to VGM all the time, at home, at college and work, and even in the car driving around. Favorites have to be Mass Effect, TES Oblivion (Jeremy Soule is a genius), some FF, Chaos Legions, Deus Ex (Awesome OST), and OMG!!! GUNSTAR HEROES OST)
acidfluxxbass I'm totally digging incoming music atm. It's a game i used to have and the tunes are really nice, and hardcorey!

That doesnt sound very much like what a SNES could produce, this sounds way to clear
Triquatra eufeions remixes <3
Josephson_Junction Mind if I resurrect this thread? 'Cause it's a good thread!

Here, have some Drum & Bass:
Archefluxx I've been exploring soundtracks for about 4 or 5 months now, looking for inspiration and perhaps some new music.

The best Soundtrack I've found is the Tekken Tag Tournament OST.
Unbelieveble blend of EDM in the form of Big Beat, Drumstep and Drum'n'Bass.
Recommended 100%

I'm also looking through movie and anime OST's and to much pleasure. I've found some wonderful music. Not all EDM but just well written scores.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmCwz9zf01I (Heroes of Might and Magic 3 soundtrack is fantastic to listen to, it's written by Paul Anthony Romero)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Tv9pkdxEhw (Team Buddies soundtrack is awesome if you like dnb/jungle, which I do... a lot!)

EDIT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTDK98s7lKM&feature=relmfu I forgot this piece aswell, which is very much similar to freeform.

I'm glad you did! Gotta love VGM. :D

I pretty much love all the soundtrack from Super Mario Galaxy. This one is my favourite:

Has anyone played the game 'Edge' for iOS and Android? It has some pretty awesome music too:

There's a lot more of course, and here are some random favourites:

(^I'd still classify this as VGM)

(Edit: Forgot this one!^)
Triquatra Tetrisphere! awesome game, awesome soundtrack!

Less intense:
Simon I have to say I usually prefer the classical scores, like in the original Battlefield (there's a wicked D&B remix of that floating around!) but when it comes to oldskool video game music here's an album you should check out if interested: Mind.In.A.Box - R.E.T.R.O

Apart from a few interesting original ideas related to oldskool gaming, the rest is all old games music

Original work:

Remix of a classic piece of gaming music:

Found that Battlefield remix I was referring to:

All 3 versions of the battle with Blizzeta from Zelda Twilight Princess

Music for both versions of Stallord from Zelda Twilight Princess. If you've ever played Ocarina of Time, you'll recognize the music from the 2nd stage from the battle with King Dodongo and Volvagia.

Samination true dat

DJ Lawlzy I'm a big Rareware fan and some of my most favorite VGM comes from their games. David Wise is my favorite VGM composer.

My favorite of his

I'm sure a lot of you will recognize this one

A close second for my favorite soundtrack, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles. It really got me interested in renaissance music.

Shades mmmmm....

try super monkey ball... pick a level lol

Audio Warfare Baten Kaitos has some excellent music:

Infact I could list endless excellent tracks from JRPG's. They seem to put more effort in on the music side of things than western developers.
Be Happy One of my all time favorite games is Final Fantasy VII so this is probably one of my favorite pieces out of a game. Also there is a tune on kniteforce that sampled this piece which is awesome!

Other random ones would be

I'm sure I have more just none that really come to mind at the minute.

v-act Just dropped by to link this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ycj3Do9apPM

It's from the bloody awesome game Hotline Miami, I love every second of the game, and I love the soundtrack just as much.
kathryn 1 of my all time fave's video games/game music is

Hirschi Not from an video game but very 8-bit and fast ;)
Quicksilver Been playing Zelda: The Minish Cap last two weeks and this tune really stuck in my head.

This game has some awesome music!
_Jay_ Not really a sensible (he got it!) contribution, but I used to LOVE hearing this as a kid when I started up a game! Amazing game.

Good lad!
Simon Yeah Sensible Software, made me think of this classic!

174BPM There is a whole genre based on the 8-bit sound called chiptune

Here is an example (played live!)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QfwKqy3LyY

This particular dude plays old computer game themes. He plays the melody through triggers in the drums. The melody is pre-programmed into the synth, he triggers the notes on the different drums. Quite ingenious.

War has never been so much fun(nier)!
Samination Started to listen to the Quake 2 soundtrack again. It forced me to go on ebay to look for a copy of the PC game again, as I had done away with my ORIGINAL disc in favor for the Quake 4 special edition version :(

Quicksilver Donkey Kong Country series hold some truly epic music.

This one almost makes me teary-eyed cause of how beautiful it is.

Mining Melancholy

Not to mention how ****ing brilliant Bramble Blast/Stickerbrush Symphony is. It's pure, brilliant chill-out music and no one could guess it's video game music if they didn't know beforehand.
Josephson_Junction The last section starting at 3:23 caught me off guard (in a good way).

Yeah, it actually sounded really nice; it's compareable to the Goa-music I listened to in Chill-Out-areas. And considering the fact that this game was published back in 2000 when Goas were much stronger I wouldn't wonder to find out that quite a lot of the developers of thin one regularly were confronted to such music.
Lilley Need for speed 4 had a wicked big beat and electro soundtrack.

Also love the mix of ****ing in heaven in GT2.
Lilley Just a few of the aforementioned

Quicksilver I have spent some time listening to the Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze soundtrack tonight. Dave Wise (original composer for the DKC SNES series) returned for this one and it has some absolutely amazing songs.

This one actually made me shed a tear. That guitar is so haunting and beautiful.

Seashore War

Also worth mentioning is this one:

Scorch n Torch

It's, too, very haunting. Just such relaxing and emotional music.

I really, really wanna play this game now. I need a WiiU!!! :P

Quicksilver Anyone of you ever played Axiom Verge? It's like Castlevania and Metroid had a child with most of its DNA from Metroid. It's sooo good and if you've accepted the fact that Nintendo will never make another Metroid 2D this is the closest you can get.

Plus the music is just absolutely fantastic. 8-bit sounds mixed with heavy kick drums and old skool synths.

One of the weirdest most unsettling tunes but it's strangely epic and good:

I've played it, and gotten most of the ps4 trophies. The sound and estetics of the game is kinda disturbing to say atleast :P
latininxtc So a few years ago I went to a Zelda Symphony of the Goddesses concert and I loved it. They basically take popular Zelda songs from the entire series and turn it into classical form. Here's a video from one of the London concerts to give you an idea of what you can expect from such a concert.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69pRGlR2HnQ

I'm a big fan of video game music getting remade in classical form, and have always especially enjoyed when Zelda games get a classical lift, so I was truly excited when I ran into this gem!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlkIUmn5USg

Some guy remade the majority of the Zelda songs from Twilight Princess into classical music. I think whoever made this needs to be in charge of the next Zelda Symphony series!
