It faster than Hard Trance and Hard House and seems to be getting harder every year. It is starting to make me wonder how much further they can take Hardstyle towards Hardcore before it becomes almost the same genre.
The kick after the breakdown would probably have been classified as Hardcore had it been released in the mid 90s.
New Adrenalize & Wasted Penguinz track

160 bpm Hard House can be mixed into Hardcore. I done it before but I don't branch into Hardstyle. Not my thing
Hard House is still more Hardcore than Hardcore though even at it's tempo

Both HS and HC have changed pretty significantly in the past 8 years. I was just talking recently about how HC is starting to sound more like Hardstyle, though I guess the opposite could be true. Regardless I'm not liking the sounds/VST's/synths/ whateverthecorrecttermwouldbe that HC producers are using as of late, as it sounds way too much like Hardstyle. I know HC has always been very derivative of other genres since the early 2000's, but the main leads just sound .. Different.
Have been having very frequent seizures as of late and my memory/vocab is pretty ****ed at this point, so I hope people can understand what I mean. But yeah, you're definitely not the only one who has noticed OP, and I'm not digging it all that much.
It's bound to happen though .. Both HS and Gabber have gotten way less "hard" since the mid 2000's. It's hard to imagine a track like Nosferatu's Knockout, or any of the mid 2000's Brennan Heart stuff coming out these days.

Rafferty, don't kid yourself. This is pure garbage.

Not sure what you mean by Hard House is more Hardcore than Hardcore?
I'm guessing you meant to say Hard House is more Hardcore than Hardstyle which is an absolute laugh.
Hard House is the weakest Hard Dance genre on the planet. The kicks are softer and is'nt it a genre that came out of the gay scene? Used to be call Hambag House.
Also Hard House is very disposable, it is a throwaway genre. Very generic with productions. I always thought the bin logo was very appropriate for tidy tracks.
Hardstyle is where it's at. The who culture of the genre is influenced from gabber. From what people wear to the massive Dutch Hardcore Kicks.

No because Hard House actually puts out decent tunage while Hardcore is little more than EDM drops these days

I'll be honest that is a lot better than the stuff Lisa Lashes and the Tidy Clowns used to play. It does still surprise me how a lot of UK Hardcore people like Hard House though. Is so club sounding.
Like DJ Brisk, I always think Hard House does not suit him as he always seemed to be someone that liked his beats really Hard. Hardstyle to me sounds more like something he would play when not playing Hardcore.
This reminds me a lot of Brisk

Smoogie do you seriously think Hard House resembles Hardcore more than this lol?
Hehe I'm not sure if they would be able to dance like that to the faster rawer Hardstyle of today.

I like what Serzo has done to the melody/ riff part of track but not as keen on the HS kickdrum, sounds a bit too processed? I prefer the sound of the kick in the L'Armour Toujours HS remix. I'm not really into my HS but I do like to listen to some from time to time.

You're calling this oldskool? Hadn't heard this...reminds me of Tommyknocker/ Tha Playah style.
ultraskool
Hardstyle is going through the 'underground' sound phase where it's trying to 'evolve' to keep the masses interested. I think it was getting too commercialised so they need to tune up the sound abit to make it more 'rough' sounding. thats where you have styles like 'Rawcore' and 'Hard-tech' sounds coming through. It is starting to sound more like Hardcore Gabber I do agree. the new generation - Gabber and Hardstyle are closely related

How about a UK hardcore remix of this?

Yeah he's been doing quite well the last few years, he didn't have his big solo release yet though. Even though he has been part of Scantraxx (one of the biggest labels in hardstyle) since 2016 it were especially the multiple collabs with Atmozfears that put him in the spotlight. I especially like their collab, The Humming, which is still unreleased. Really interesed it what he brings in the future.

Hardstyle has a lot of great melodies, but I still can't stand those distorted kicks. Throw in a more conventional kick and I'll listen all day.
Vladel
To me hardstyle has always been slow gabber.
LeVzi
Hardstyle and Jumpstyle to me always been something I am not interested in, but each to their own, it's popular and I do like some of the Da Tweekaz stuff. But not my cup of tea tbh.

If had to choose between hardstyle and hardcore (Dutch/ Italian Hardcore) I'd go for hardstyle.

Why? There's quite a lot of melodic stuff in dutch/italian hardcore, not forgetting to mention japanese hardcore as well
LeVzi
I was listening to some older Da Tweekaz stuff earlier, and I have to be honest, its hard to like fully, but parts of their stuff are some of the best i've heard.
The pace and the drop in Hardstyle are so weak I cannot bare it.
I like the hardcore influence in it, it's making it more bareable.

there is still good old techno

Have heard some tracks recently from Hard Driver - I do quite like his style. I like the sound of his kickdrums.
Here's new track

I agree. His new kick are quite good, never been a big fan of his melodies though except Interconnected and The Empire.
I really love this one. Excellent fusion of hardstyle and trance:

this is top notch 10/10 . We need compilations of this style
I miss 2006-2009 era Hardstyle melodies. They were less cheesy in a pop-EDM way than many modern HS melodies I've heard, but had that uplifting/euphoric style reminiscent of supersaw-y HHC-UKHC/(Hard) Trance melodies, just often done in a "darker/"more screechy and hoover-y way reminiscent of Gabber/Mainstream Dutch HC melodies. The tinny and/or distorted kicks with no boom can get fast easily, but the melodies were pretty consistently uplifting and energizing during that era. Combine them with early 2000s Hardstyle reverse bass kicks from the era when the line between Hard Trance and Hardstyle was very thin and you'd have a recipe for awesome music imo.
Any one know why so many Hardstyle songs use the donk kicks with the melody after the breakdown, but use more booming kicks in the intro/outro? Track EQ?

Some really great choices. Phases and Just Like You are some of my favorites from that time as well. The sound and the type of melodies are unfortunately very rare nowadays. Here are a few from the last few years that I enjoy and that fit into that sound:

Definently wasn't always the case but heard some hardstyle a few years ago and was hardcore sounding, i was actually very shocked, couldn't believe it! Like you say, similar to slowed, watered down gabber, don't have a clue what its like now though, don't listen to it. lol

Considered that Gabber is actually 190BPM or faster, yea, all hardstyle is watered down in comparison

Came across JGSW recently after coming across one of his tracks from a video (track Into Pieces). This track from last year, quite like this. Very nice main melody riff.
Sulphurik
This is epic sounding. A short intro then into a section called a mid intro I think it's called from a video I saw of JGSW talking about the track. Pretty hard distorted kicks in that part but work ok. Epic main melody that comes in during breakdown.
Sulphurik
Have thought previously when hardstyle was in a very successful stage, when the sound was more melodic than it has been during the last few years that some hardcore artists (Dutch hardcore/gabba producers) may have moved to the hardstyle scene. I know one artist that did move away was Endymion. They may still play hardcore tracks along with hardstyle ones. The hardstyle he plays as far as I'm aware/have heard do seem to be the 'harder style' of hardstyle anyway, possibly rawstyle.
Would I be correct in saying some rawstyle can sound very similar to Dutch hardcore?
Hardstyle seems to have moved away from being a melodic style with uplifting melodies and containing much harder kicks than previously. There is still the melodic style around - euphoric hardstyle.
