Darkstar My vote goes to Bad Boy Bill without a doubt. I never heard anyone scratch like him. Also he makes the scratching seem like its part of the record. That's talent.

I'm bigger and bolder, and rougher and tougher, in other words sucka, there is no other. I am the one and only dominator.
happyraveruk scracthmaster of hardcore is dj sy, scratchmaster of rave in general is a toss-up between dj sy and dj hype
scratchmaster would be someone like dj craze or any of the others you see in scratching competitions. they're mad!!!

You look like you're in another world, but i can read your mind. 4 o'clock in the morning, and it's starting to get light.
MC RizlaDizla I dont really know many dj's out of UK. So its gotta be the scratch masta himself, Scratch Masta Sy.

Dj hype is the next after him.

Hixxy is very good aswell but with the music he is spinning right now, it would really fit.

Brisk is okay.

Lukazade is wikkid at scratching, and is still very young so he will take over sy's place 1 day I think.

DNA is okay too.

"Oh my goodness, Oh my Gosh. Here we go with a badboy rush".
Alex_In_Wonderland In the hardcore scene I'd also probably say Sy but overall DJ Rectangle I would say is one of the most talented scratchers I've ever heard.

Alex.
DJ Mouse sy, no question.
hixxy comes close behind, the only reason why is coz he doesn't do as much as he used to anymore

DJ Mouse In Da House!!!
Brian K q-bert! dj swamp would be my next fav...

"If Yoda so smart in Force is, why words in right order he put not?"
Brian K oh and i guess hardcore wise, i'd have to go with mark n, hands down that boy can f*ckin rip shit up...he also has interesting names for his tapes which is why he gets another vote from me

"If Yoda so smart in Force is, why words in right order he put not?"
Midway_raver Dj Sy, u herd dat guy go on his dreasmscape cd!!?? Bloody hell ne1 who thinks tehy can mix scarthing into hardcor en em ki tosund wkd i ask u too take teh decks next to taht guy and watch as u fall beaten!!

Ant B
DjXTCEE Sy is awsome but in honesty Hixxy was as good, if not better in his early years. When I saw him live he actually did a set with some sweet scratching and it blew me away.

At the current time I would go for Sy

"The master returns..."
DJ Mouse hixxy did loads in his early days, bonkers 1,he had loads of it on there,he had quite a bit in 2 and 3,hardly any in 4 and none after that. does he do alot now or hardly any?

DJ Mouse In Da House!!!
DJ Pathfinder DJ CRAZE !!!!

You can't see me,because i am the future.
DjXTCEE It is quite a rare thing to see Hixxy scratch ne more..he is more focused on the future and progreesion although I think some nice scratching is always apreciated. If ne1 was to scracth it would not be done on decks but with a synth and keyboards..*sigh*

"The master returns..."
Matty K I've seen Hype play, in the past, at a local Reading club where you could actually watch him spin his tunes and I can confirm that he cheats (or used to)!!!! He was definatley using the handy little transform button when he was scratchin'. And if you've got an good ear for transforming, listen to some of his tapes you can hear the (possible) cheating button being used. Im not saying that Hype can't scratch - far from infact - he IS fcukin good. But there's getting respect for scratching and there's getting TOO much respect; And I think he gets too much. Question: Anyone tried transforming over 4 records in a row? Hype does. My arm kills me after I've done about 2 minutes of solid transforming.

Please don't read more into this post. Im not dissing him, just pointing out what I have seen.

In answer to the question; Sy is the scratch master - always has- but as happyraveuk said - there are alot of much, much better scratchers around - I went to see Cypress Hill @ Brixton Acadamy not so long ago, they were supported by a group called "The Dillated Peoples" and their DJ was awesome - I had never heard some one scratch as fast and accuratley as him. I was dumb-struck.

The Rhythm Station will always be my home
Skeenip yeah DJ craze be the scratch king. Scratch perverts take my team vote.

I am speaking from experience when I say, DO NOT! substitute 3 days of no sleep with eating 20 instant coffee packs RAW!!!
silver If we are talking strick scratching only then DJ Qbert or DJ Krush

If we are talking DJ and scratching, then DJ sy.

you, me and hardcore forever.
hardcore_fan i cant believe a question like this has come up. sy with out doubt is the best hardcore scratchmaster. no other dj is anywhere near him or has been.

feel the fury... hardcore. never. dies
Darkstar Does anyone here listen to house or have heard of Bad Boy Bill? If not, pick up Bad Boy Bill's "Bangin' The Box 4".

I'm bigger and bolder, and rougher and tougher, in other words sucka, there is no other. I am the one and only dominator.
Brian K ugh, don't even get me started on bad boy bill or richard humpty vision for that matter =P

"If Yoda so smart in Force is, why words in right order he put not?"
plasma anyone heard of charlie chan?he is a hip hop dj,but the man is sick! I've seen him scratch two records and use his nose on the cross fader!

DJ Mouse now that is just o.t.t! bet it's fun to watch someone do that though

DJ Mouse In Da House!!!
Pink Boots I registered just so I could put my 2 cents in on this topic:
Robbie Long!!
This man can scratch. I think he's the top of hardcore. I've only heard him and Sy on tape, so maybe I've missed Sy's better sets, but I think Robbie Long is amazing. I have seen Hype, and I think he's a very good scratcher, he cuts the records up like a madman.

I don't know turntablism very well, so I can't really voice an opinion on that, but I rate Andy Smith (of Portishead) extremely highly. His scratches aren't that complex, but the timing within the songs is exquisite. He really makes the turntable into an instument.

Faster is not Harder.
Harder is Harder.
djmarinecorpse DJ Tizer! Sorry, I feel like I just yelled bomb in an airport. Everybody's always looking at me funny whenever I talk about him. But seriously, he's fairly decent...

wicky vicky has anyone listened to the world of sy and unknow cd. im sorry but that guys skracths are terrible. there slow and he does the same thing over and over agian. he should learn the crab or some echo skratches.
now simon apex is awsome. he does fast skratchs. awsome. as for the skratch master, it has to be dj qbert in sanfranciso. he has won so many competitions and is in the worlds most famous skratching crew the invisbl skratch pikls. big ups to the isp. bow

sy is well-known about his scrathing i dont think many people agree with you.

but on the uniteddance cd in his mix he sometimes scratch in a nice vocals so the s i very irretating.

spree deserves a mention of his schratch in skill i think he done it very well and on the right time.

but cloudskipper has much to learn.
so as me lol

You can't see me,because i am the future.
cookietrip143 I bought united dance vol. 6 back in 97 and have yet to hear somethin more incredible than sy´s scratchin at the beginning of his set.
Like WOW!!
can somebody explain to me the technique he uses in which his scratching sounds like hes goin all over the place pitch wise.
I mean is that just record control or does he do anything special with the fader or what!

Brian K it's just record control, speeding it up or slowing down. the faster scratches produce a high chirp, while the slower ones make a low sounding chirp.

it's really not that hard to do. it's just doing it in a constant rhythm which makes it somewhat difficult.

"do not dream, you dreamed about me"
cookietrip143 I´m not so sure about it just being record control .I mean no matter how hard I try I cant make it "talk" LIke sy if u kno what I mean.

Brian K slow the record with your fingers by applying pressure, speed it up by pushing the record forward

"do not dream, you dreamed about me"
