i was looking at "original hardcore 3" and it said it has a collection of songs from the "happy" era of hardcore. Nu-skool HHC still sounds somewhat "happy" and bouncey/uplifting. Why dont they just keep calling "Happy Hardcore" I like Anabolic Frolic's stuff...he still gets all the nu bouncey stuff.

there's always been three types of HH!

according too geographical location really..

bouncy being north

breakbeat being south

and nu-school being on top of the world as far as i'm concerned.

i think all the confusion over new and old styles is due too that the three different styles can be combined into just one track, whereas i definatly perfer it cut straight down the middle and not being tampered indirectly with the merging of styles...the only noticible difference of 'happy' and nu-school is either piano and the mega famous 'handclaps' which definalty frequents the bouncy style, incidently i haven't heard any 'handclaps' on recent releases except for scott browns ice cold rmxs...

Cause happy Hardcore is a shit name :P ;)

Its a new style, sure it has some similarity with the old stuff but its nice to be able to define between the 2 :)

"New" and "Old" does the trick :)
The thing with using only the word Hardcore, is that ppl often think that i'm talking bout dutch hardcore...

I agree with warped - There is still a ton of hardcore (nu skool) that is "happy" and uplifting, granted - its not the same type as hardcore as it was back in the day - but there is still tons of cheesy stuff knockin around..they lyrics should tell anyone that lol.
i agree with whispering - nothing wrong with using New..and old that defines the two quite nicely...
what i want to know is where free-form (the stuff sharkey played on 3,4 and 5 has gone!....it used to be dark, fast and melodic..now it seems to have lost its melodious side and become more dark and hard.. wheres the old skool freeform!?

"bring the hardest paddle you can find, and get ready to be spanked, you dirty dirty pigs.....yes yes?"

^^It depends what you call Happy hardcore ,Nothing released these days is happy like it used to be ,So i dont think it should be called happy hardcore ,Just nu style hardcore or whatever.

I describe the new stuff hardcore and the old stuff happy hardcore ,Thats the way i see it

With me, it's not all about genres and sub-genres. It's about how the music makes me feel. I l ve happy hardcore.......even the dark sounding hardcore makes me feel happy . If I was music....I would be Hardcore.

WANTED!

Sub-genre's piss me off. Categorising doesn't really acomplish anything except to divide the listeners. Eventually it turns into something along the lines of:
Idiot 1: "Oh I like hard-punk-trance-goa-psy, not that latin-house-2step-jungle"
Idiot 2: "PFFT! you don't know fark all man, breaks-electro-funk-trance rules YOU!"
Idiot 1: "Don't you insult my mother like tha!!!t"
Idiot 2: "You starting me!"
*Fist, punch, fight, cyber-pen.s war*

Like silver said it's all hardcore. There may be different styles inside of hardcore, but who cares, just dance.

"Well it just goes on and on and you don't stop, party people winding up and keep on going til you drop YEAH!"
