on a serious note, from what I remember about this issue (i've seen it before) there is a chip on the main PCB that controls the speed etc etc - if you're confident in soldering the chip can be replaced, check the main PCB for the chip that's fried (it'll look burnt). punch the serial of the chip into ebay - you'll be able to pick one up for about 3 or 4 quid...then de-solder the old one off, and the new one on.

Cheers Triq, I'll pass this info on, as I've seen this first-hand this week...pretty sure it's the same turntable too.
