I find it pretty sad that he's still relying heavily on some of his past songs and just makes minor tweaks on them. You're wasting your time as they sound pretty fucking awful Darren. He's played Concrete Angel at every one of his EDC gigs. It's a great song, but do you not have anything new you should be pushing?
But then again the new stuff isn't all that great. There may have been about 3 tracks I have yet to hear that sounded pleasant. Other than that, everything was just not all that great. Are these the types of sets he puts out in the UK or does he purposely diminish the quality just for Americans?
Well the best thing out of the whole set is there are no MCs. No need for a massive cunt to shout shit out during all the tracks, the set is already bad enough. But this shows that MCs are not needed in the US, leave them to terrorize the ravers in the UK!

I hadn't listened at the time, I'd just seen it flying about and thought I'd post it here.
But I've listened now. It's not really a Hardcore set, as such - and I don't say that in a shitty kind of way or anything. He's playing to a certain crowd and he can't just go and lay down those really beefy 175bpm kicks from the late 2000s. Just wouldn't work for that audience.
Listened to the whole set all the way through without skipping, and I probably would again. Enjoyed it.

This set is obviously tailored for that specific crowd. "Diminish in quality" is a bit harsh. He's obviously diluted the Hardcore-ness, agreed, yes.
He plays great sets in the UK. He'll play a totally random mixture of his ultra modern stuff but then throw in a classic from ten or fifteen years ago. He threw Dropzone in out of nowhere in Magaluf which went down amazingly. I remember him playing in London in 2012 and the last half-hour of his set were just amazing, slightly lesser-known tunes from his back catalog from the mid-'00s.

like if i was there; i would of laughed and walked straight to the drum n bass stage. darren styles?
sounds like some really generic boring trash
and then all these kids there think what he is spinning is hardcore. and then want him to make more " hardcore" and then when he plays hardcore they wonder where the shitty big room sounds went
and then everything is SHIT. *rage*
** American backlash ftw
latininxtc feels my pain

I thought the set was (mostly) great.
He played the classics that everyone expected to hear whilst pushing what he believes is the direction hardcore should be heading towards along with the newer vocal anthems and unreleased material.
I much prefer some of the harder songs Darren played, especially 17:45 and the hardcore rendition of Boy Oh Boy at 50:20. That's a better direction to go in compared to "Melbcore" and the typical Powerstomp sound, granted that at a live event you'd catch me going along with it but for home listening, it's boring.
e.g 54:10 and 56:01 almost sound exactly the same.
Even so, I'd have loved to be in that crowd, I would have lost my mind when Beneath The Lights came on.

I thought it was pretty good. I know this forum has a love/hate relationship with Styles, and he's definitely not my favorite hardcore artist, but you can't deny that he still has talent after all these years in hardcore. I also love how his EDC mixes are completely MC-free, helps me enjoy the music lol

Aye, I've discovered in the meantime, cheers! Didn't know you could with Soundcloud, bet that causes some issues.
