Hello everyone !

I'm new to this forum and I joined because I'm looking for some advice in producing hardcore music.

Can anyone PLEASE give me some tips on how to layer the bass with the other synths in the track ?

So I'm trying to make a drop. I made a nice bass sound and I have a nice lead melody going, but it feels like the drop lacking some oomph in the mids. The mid not completely empty, the bass has a presence around 700-900Hz, my lead sound is a square/saw sync kinda sound, so it's very shallow. The result is that the space in the middle kinda sounds "empty". When I try to add some chords that kinda follow the progression, it doesn't seem to fit, or it starts to conflict with the bass... So I start EQ'ing the bass and then the whole sound of the track of completely lost.

I've searched the whole youtube for at least 1 decent tutorial but I couldn't find anything. Most of the tutorials about hardcore really really shit so ANY tips from anyone with experience would be hugely appreciated.

PS: I use FL Studio 12 and I use harmor for pretty much everything.

Hi. I don't use FL or harmor but from what I've read, harmor is an FM synth. With FM synthesis I find it hard to anticipate the resulting sound as harmonics are added in a more random way than say Subtractive synthesis. I use NI Massive sometimes to layer by duplicating the midi track and then going through the wavetable list. It's a bit cleaner approach than just using presets since I'm usually just looking to fill those frequency gaps.

Also, gaps might have to do with the arrangement. Sometimes a break like the amen or a piano (like an m1) is what's needed to make it sound more hardcore-like.

Hope that helps somehow. :)
