Seeing the other topic about DAWs thought this could be an interesting topic too.
Personally all i really use is Sylenth1 at the mo. ive found i can make pretty much any sound i need using this, or at least try to get it close, so dont bother with much else.
Tried Albino3 and Massive when attempting to make some wobbly Dubstep (all teh big namez use them!!!!!) but again found i can make just as good a wobble in Sylenth, not quite as fun wobbling in Sylenth as in Massive like, but sounds just as good so nevermind. Albino3 looks and sounds really good for other things aswell though so i think ill be investing in that soon too.
So, what do you use? What couldnt you do without?

All I use is Sylenth 1 and V-Station at the mo. I've got a few others but I find these two more than enough so why over complicate things.
I am looking at getting Albino3 though.

I never liked Albino. It's incredibly thin and imo has a bad sound.

Well that's what has been used for the bass in the tunes I've done with Hattrixx up in his studio and it sounds awesome. :) Maybe it's not so good for leads? I don't know. But it's certainly good for bass!
He has a lot of gear at his place so there must be a good reason he uses it.

I'll put a quick clip up when I'm home of a bass made using two instances of Albino3. It honestly sounds great.

Yeah maybe it's had some big improvements since then? It was the first time I'd heard/seen it and I was pretty impressed.

On Rusko's producer masterclass video he uses Albino3 for his basses and it sounds great. thats for Dubstep i know but still sounds mint. Wobble
Never liked V-Station myself when ive tried it, dont know why just never got on with it. Albino is a bit difficult to crack at first but once you spend an afternoon (or all afternoon, day and night ) messing about with it it all starts coming together and i really like it now. Gonna stick with Sylenth till i get enough cash to buy the full version of Albino now, been messing with the demo for a while.

Albino 3 is by far one of the best VSTi's, and by far one of the best sounding VSTi's. If you can't get a good sound out of it then my god you suck.
I'm with bulby g's approach to minimalism though, i find myself using only 1 or 2 synths (for any given sound, obviously i couldn't use something like the V-Station for strings).
Anytime i use a VSTi, the first synth i go to is the V-Station to demo the sound i plan on using. It's not the best sounding synth, in that it sounds really thin but it does everything i want with the greatest of ease, and also the way i want it. I really can't be ****ed with sub menu's just to program in an LFO.

Sylenth1 and Massive pretty much do it for me at the moment as far as instruments are concerned. They're both pretty easy to use... not too many controls to fuss with... but they're both great at making such a huge variety of sounds.

Toxic Biohazard for leads & pads, Synapse Junglist for Bass & a Freebie called Genesis off Computer Music cos it sounds massive but it eats processor power!
