those things are close to becoming illegal they should be as well and definitely banned from raves.
especially high powered shit man f*cking hell m8 imagine how many people would get accidently blinded at a rave if everyone had one.

The "high powered" ones are illegal in Finland...

5mw is NOT high powered, it is the same as all regular keychain normal laser pointers.

5mw is high powered! The cheap gold key chain ones are only 1mw.They are high powered but not strong enough to blind anyone unless you delibertly tried to by staring into the lens for a long period of time but that would just be stupid :)

5mw is not high powered trust me, I love lasers myself and I have built my own laser systems plus own 3 myself.
All keychains I have ever seen have been 5mw never 1mw. The wave length makes it look brighter on these models.
All lasers are dangerous, and will damage your eyes (there is a warning on all lasers including this one).

Iv taken this from a laser pointer classifaction page just to prove my point
Safety Standards & Classification
Laser pointers are classified according to the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standard on laser safety. This standard specifies requirements for the laser to ensure that the risk of accidental exposure is minimized through the use of engineering control features and that there is product labelling and safety information. The IEC also sets out five classes of laser: 1, 2, 3A, 3B and 4. This classification gives the user an indication of the degree of laser hazard.
Class 1 lasers have an output power that is below the level at which eye injury can occur.
Class 2 lasers emit visible light and are limited to a maximum output power of 1-milliwatt (mW). A person receiving an eye exposure from a Class 2 laser will be protected from injury by their natural blink reflex, an involuntary response which causes the person to blink and turn their head, thereby avoiding eye exposure.
Class 3A lasers may have a maximum output power of 5 mW. This limit restricts the power entering a fully dilated human eye (taken as a 7 mm aperture) to 1 mW. Thus, accidental exposure to a Class 3A laser should be no more hazardous than exposure to a Class 2 laser. However, Class 3A laser pointers are hazardous when viewed with an optical aid such as binoculars and are therefore not suitable for the general consumer.
Class 3B lasers have an output power up to 500 mW, sufficient to cause eye injury. The extent and severity of any eye injury will depend upon several factors including the laser power entering the eye and the duration of the exposure. Class 1, Class 2, Class 3A and Class 3B lasers do not have sufficient power to cause a skin injury.
Class 4 lasers have an output power greater than 500 mW and are capable of causing injury to both the eye and skin and will be a fire hazard if sufficiently high output powers are used.
The lasers im selling are Class 3A (5mw) & any gold key chain type pointer iv seen or sold myself in the past have always been Class 1 or 2 (1 mw or under).Im not saying your wrong in saying that you can get gold key chain pointers that are 5mw but my point is that neerly all of the gold key chain types you see being sold in the UK or on ebay are 1mw.

I never heard of those classes before, they must be a UK thing as all the key chains I have ever seen have been 5mw, but then again I never been to the UK so perhaps things are different there.
I own, 120mwatt, 500mwatt lasers at the moment. But have done gigs with 10 watts and 2 watt YAG's... sweet... :)

OK, here we go thanks VERY much brumblescrew for getting all the classification stuff out of the way.
b4 i get started i am a qualified professional safety consultant and i am actually working for a laser lighting company at the moment.
Now the main thing with lasers is not the power outputted by the laser but the amount of time you are exposed to them for, think about it like a hot pot on the stove, u tap it u don’t get burn but u feel it on the fingers, u leave your hand there u get it burnt. The same thing goes for lasers. All lasers used at raves (those projected down off stage) go through what is commonly known as a “scanner”, this moves the laser bean extremely quickly so it looks like a solid shape. Now with a massive math formula u can figure out the exposure to a person at an even taking into account the power of the laser and the speed of the beam. Even with the Class 1 5W liquid cooled laser (produces a beam that can burn through timber) that the company that I am presently working for uses patrons are not exposed to levels anywhere near the exposure standard, however 5 seconds with a laser pointer (depending on aperture and power) will cause retinal degeneration in the average person, and if u are like me and have had major eye operations it can be as little at 1second... The reason for this is because it is a "stagnate-beam" which means it does not move therefore the full power of the laser is concentrated on the one area all the time.
In my professional opinion they should be banned from raves and anywhere else that they are intended for doing anything else other then pointing at a screen!!! In fact I have had them pointed in my eyes and smashed them (this did not make me popular but I can still see...) On another point if u do shine it in the eyes of someone like my self with retinal problems and it does do them damage I would; A, kick ya ass and Be, sue ya ass big time. Further to that by selling them u are supplier of plant and under this states (Queensland, Australia) legislation can be found Liable for any harm caused by the item of plant and subject to criminal proceedings. (e.g. assault) note your defense would be substantially weakened by the lack of adequate safety information presented in the primary form of advertising.
Hope this makes people think twice b4 playing round with lasers...they aren’t toys they are ****ing dangerous if you do not know what you are doing.
OUT
GregE
PS although that is the Queensland legislation I am near positive that it is pretty much the same for the rest of Australia and the UK’s is quite similar J
