lol how many of theirs topics have their been now? lol.
anyway how much are u willing to pay?
i would recommend anything by pioneer for cdj. iv got a mk3 1000 and it's just amazing. but 800 are just as good, as well as the lower level ones from pioneer. i think everyone agrees with that.
for mixers prob get a pioneer mixer or u could try vestax. it really depends if u want a dance mixer or one for scratching.

cheep but good cd decks?
the stanton C3 series are supposed to be quite good for cheepness AND value, as are the Numark Axis series, the cheeper pioneer CDJ's arent great..i would also stear clear of cheeper denon cd decks, as the platter on them sucks balls - at least for scratching, using it was fustrating as sometimes when you press on the platter it wouldnt pick it up at all...then you press even harder and it picks up the pressure but too much! so you end up giving songs a MASSIVE nudge..and putting them more out of time...i dont know if they fixed these issues in the higher end models...
that said -
*later on* if you want to upgrade you can look at the Pioneer CDJ1000's..which are the bad boys of the scene currently, but they arent cheep :) there are other options are out there than CDJ1000's - the Numark CDX is pretty good, and replicates the feel of vinyl exactly - though i have seen some have issues with the deckplate, i dont know how widespread that was - it was just one of the demo units we had on display...i would stear clear of technics CD decks completly, they have and had way too many problems and feel like crap too :( fail.
your best bet? get down to your local guitar center and have a go on a few of the different ones - they will be more than happy to let you have a go, take some cds with you - if they dont have the one you want to try on display just ask, they'll get it out the box and set it up.
:)

Agreed, anything Pioneer for the CDJ's if you want them to last
And Pioneer or Vestax for the mixer.
Probably a bit expensive though seems you want something cheap.
Look on eBay or something for good nick second hand stuff, will save a lot if you can find the good deals

You're better off with Pioneer CDJ-100s or 200s than Stanton/Numark gear.
They'll have a good resale value when you want to upgrade and have all the features you need to learn. Plus, it's what you find in clubs so might as well get used to them.
They also won't break.

erm - they'll break just as much as a stanton or a numark
we had a CDJ100 that was broken...that we had to take off display, so yeah - they will break, nothin's indestructable
apart from the music of BT....thats indestructable

if you can't afford $650 you may need to save more =P
you'll still need to buy a mixer when you buy your cd decks

You seriously need the right equipment to DJ, you can get frustrated with using crap equipment and never want to DJ because you can't get it right... I know a bad DJ blaims his equipment but sometimes he's correct!
I recommend you find a friend with the equipment and play with it for a few weeks (if your friend lets you)... You will have to buy pioneers or SL1200's in the long term if you want any serious chance of playing out at big venues (and sounding good IMO)....
The reason I say use your friends is that it's expensive to buy the equipment from the get go, so if you didn't like it it would be a big investment, BUT if you did buy the right stuff it would retain resale value. If you're rich and have about 2000-3000 dollars buy the best stuff :)
Anyway my 2 cents :)
