It's not just price, it's sound quality too...
Why would you need balanced in's and outs unless you where going to run a massive PA system from it? Like I said before if you ONLY want sound creation you might be better off with something else, I like what I have :)
It makes a pretty big difference with studio monitors (it's pretty common to get hum and such otherwise). This guy just said he was producing on Cubase...
But fine, let's agree to disagree.

How much is that?
Yes, it'll do a good job but if you're gonna use a PCI card with unbalanced ins/outs you can save money and get an audiophile. And like I said, Firewire cards are better of a whack of reasons.

lol, there ya go Silver ;)
Look at the Focusrite Saffire LE. It's 250$ CAN and I have no complaints other than the software's GUI being a bit weak.

I think he is talking about the Presonus Inspire 1394 has the hum and not the X-Fi, I have powered studio monitors not even a slight hint of hum or any background noise or crappyness... feel free to buy what you want but I think you should stop reading everything from the internet and find someone that has a X-Fi and ask them what they think of it.

Sorry for to add.... The Delta 1010 card, I have the exact card, I think it is overkill these days, you dont need 10 ins and outs since most stuff is done via VST's or sampled anyway. You only really need that many in's and outs if you have external hardware or a live band or something. Buy something with low latency ASIO and you're good.

I disagree with Dain-Ja judgement on the X-Fi but I do agree that Dain-Ja recommendation for the Audiophile 2496 is good seeing it's only axp. 120 dollars...

1010 is just an upgraded card, if you are going to use all those inputs and outputs go for it, but if you are just going to use VST's then you dont need a 1010 and you would be wasting your money IMO.

Exactly, that's why I was saying that if you're gonna get anything better than a 2496 you should just jump to a FireWire card with balanced ins/outs.
Good luck and let us know how it works out!
