Yo Yo Yo!

I've moved my studio (details below)*

To celebrate the elite new place, I'm running a promotion offering all first-timers to the new studio a full-day session at just £100. Call for details: 07821-4-oh-1-two-hun-dread! You can also email my assistant: alex AT hattrixx DOT co DOT youkay!

*It's been a great start to the year for me! I've come out of the temporary fix at Balham and I now work from a swish, purpose-built facility near Alexandra Palace (North London). For months I looked all over for the perfect room and this was by far the best of the lot - nicely sized with tall cielings, sound-proofed walls, double doors, wicked lighting, air conditioning, a dedicated vocal booth and there's a nice kitchen and lounge area to boot.

People who've seen me at work call me a perfectionist - although I'd say I'm more of an elitist. It's not that everything has to be perfect, it just has to be the best going. As such, I've cut no corners dealing with acoustic treatment (although there's a bit more to be done). The room is already sounding far better than any environment I've ever worked in, with 10-foot bass traps in every corner and an upgraded monitoring setup that moves butt-cheeks. Mixing down is so much easier and quicker, the better the system.

Typically I've still not had time to work on any of my own hardcore productions, although I'd just started a single for Luna-C / Kniteforce before I moved my stuff and I intend to get that finished as quickly as possible. I've worked on a pop rock kinda thing, though.

Gotta pay my respects to those who have been in the studio so far this year. I've been totally consumed by my work recently - and you all know how seriously I take it. So big thanks to:

Driver
Snooky & Ronnie G (Rampant DJs)
The Altruist
Cruze & Breaks with MCs Macca & Friction (Track Master Music Crew)
MC Horizon & Ant In The House
Dan Thomas
Titan <---I'll ring you!
RizlaDizla & Jay Trickz (Ruff Trixx)
Audio Warefare (Bulby G)
Purple Simba
Pinnacle & Jenny J
Dazz-F
Ed-E
Freefall & Little Lel
Swindle & Roll Deep
Reegz V HDQ
Ruxpin
Mr B & Little Fella (with Ste!)

You lot make it possible for me to keep improving the quality of the service! I've had a lot of great fun teaching and working on productions that have been played by even more key players in the industry than last year. There's a bit of talk at the moment about people moving on from hardcore and all the rest of it. Rest assured, I'm here to stay. I know my place - and it's firmly behind the scenes working my dreads off in the studio. Diary's looking good with stacks of new people and friendly faces returning again (including Vibes - if you'd wondered what he's doing recently!).

YARRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!

£100 for a day, thats pretty cool. If I had the cash Id definitely be up for this. Sounds like a good deal peeps!

BTW, Owen, I never did sign a track off you for NSR :s We have a CD release coming soon, so I could possibly licence something for that? Email me at [email protected] If you would like to discuss. The CD will be out in May so it needs to be sorted soon ;)

Well worth the money guys. A great way to learn new tricks and get some quality music made at the same time. Owen's a great guy and really knows what he's doing.

I'll be going back regularly from now on!

Just for a bit of clarity for myself and others..........

What does my £100 include?
- How long is the 'day'? Are we talking a 4 hour session or an 8 hour session?
- Will I have a releaseable track at the end?
- Will you cover mastering with me?
- What sequencer do you use? I use FL, but if you use Cubase is it worth me coming along?
- Will you make me a drink ;)

No but seriously, the top 4 questions I think are questions I would ask if I was going to take up your offer (which I might do in the summer) and I think other people may be wanting to know the same. :)

Audio Warfare may also be able to shed light on this too

10 hours! I like a nice long day so that there's plenty of time to get everything sounding just right.

If that's your goal for the session, then yes. Some people prefer to split a production over 2 sessions (especially if there's a lot of vocal tracking involved), but for most people, most of the time a full track will be done in a day. It will sound professional and will be ready to play, but I'll do the final mixdown after the session when you have a label interested.

- Will you cover mastering with me?

Cover as in teaching? I'm not a mastering engineer, but by default I will usually knock up a temporary master at the end of the session so that you have something stupidly loud to give out to DJs. If you want release-quality masters, you should seek a dedicated mastering engineer who does only that work (I would recommend www.purefocus.ca all day long).

quote:

I use Cubase 5, and yes it's totally worth you coming along. I work with many, many clients who are based on FL.

- Will you make me a drink ;)

No. ;) I buy endless supplies of high quality bottled water, because that's all I drink and it seems to help the production process. You're welcome to help yourself to as many 1.5L bottles of water as you please.

Sure. I hope my answers were satisfactory. Every session is different and every person has different questions, so it makes sense for people to contact me direct - but I certainly don't mind answering in public all the same.

I have clients come from all over England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales - even a handful from overseas. If you're serious enough about the music to make the journey, then that's the choice you make. Otherwise, I can't force people to travel and you won't get me out of London.

Having said that... I'm willing to travel to your place for tuition, but that's going to work out more expensive. Call for details!

I'm holding off until I get a couple of extra bits of shiny equipment that I've got on order, but there will definitely be pics soon!

Id like to atleast have gotten to grips with producing. Learn some music theory and synthesis and such on my own so ive atleast some idea of what im doing when i do pop down. Im a fast learner though so shant be too long before im down im sure ;)

Same here, I think I might take you up on this offer! But just like Meathead, I need to gain a bit more knowledge first then I can fully benefit!

This is a steal! If I end up in the UK any time this year I will definitely make a point to book some studio time!
