It's my favourite time of the year! Which demonstrates how much of a film nerd I am I guess!
So here's my question. Who do you want to see win the big five (best film, best director, best actor, best actress, best writing) and who do you think will win?
I think the best film award is between Up In The Air and Avatar... But I'd've voted for Mr Nobody...

i heard that avatar had a bit of a weak storyline "nothing we havent seen before full of one dimensional cliched characters and an unoriginal plot"
i also heard the special effects were quite good

Up In The Air is far better than Avatar. Nothing overly special about Avatar, yes it's effects are good but i don't watch a film for special effects and i can't think why anyone else would either. The story line is quite weak in that it's not particulaly original although the detail itself is original. It's a really good film, it's good at what it's meant to be good at, i just don't think it should win any awards, because there is much more impressive stuff out there.

Oh it will, you can believe it will.
Just like how the 'Curious Case of Benjamin Button' won over 'Hellboy II' in make-up. Most. ********. Thing. Ever. Anyone who has watched the movie should know majority of ALL the costumes on that movie were made with OUT special effects; except of course the robots. The angel, the guy without legs, Hellboy, the fish guy, basically everything.
I hate these awards ;\

yea that stupid button movie most of that wasn't makeup it was CGI. At least Pan's Labrynth won that award, which was directed by the same person who did the hellboy movies.
I seriously doubt that Avatar will win for best picture. in fact i think it's ridiculous that there are even 10 movies up for the nomination. wtf happened to 5??? and district 9 in that whole mix? that doesn't make any sense. it's either gonna b the hurt locker or up in the air as the winner. avatar will have a better chance of winning sound, editing and all those other awards.

Avatar won't win much, the Academy always snub Sci-Fi, plus it sucks.
Here are my predictions for you:
Best picture: The Hurt Locker
Directing: The Hurt Locker
Actor: Morgan Freeman, Invictus or George Clooney, Up in the Air
Actress: Gabourey Sidibe, Precious
Writing: Up in the Air (adapted), A Serious Man (original)
