It might just be me but the music at live events seems faster than album releases? I've got a few packs and when I hear a track that is also on an album it just seems to be a little bit faster!

The music always gets pitched up at events. CD mixes are all nicely done in a studio and generally levelled at the same speed, but the DJ has to do a bit more work when it's live!

Yeah man. I doubt many bedroom DJ's will even mix at the same speed that tunes are produced at.
Faster is definitely better. I usually mix at a minimum of 185bpm. Most tracks are produced at 170-175.
I was listening to a mix last night actually - it was at 200bpm. CRAZY. Great when you're pissed. Actually, it was someone on this site that posted it. It's a two hour long, three deck mix. Some dude called Roy Padron according to my iPod, and the mix is called Unparalleled Euphoria. It's epic.
Been trying to find the thread on here, don't seem to be able to. If anyone's interested, I'll re-up it if you like.

Album, for the occasional unmixed material. Other than that... no thanks

Yea as jayhh86 said tracks are produced at 170 or 175 normally!! But when a dj is playing they might start there set off at 175 but 99% of the time it will finish higher than that!! most of the people i know inc me normally kick off a set at 178-180!!!! But i think cd packs are better, i just dont tend to buy everyone (like i used to do) i wait about 3 months before getting my next one, then you tend to have a different mix!! Not the same tracks mixed in different order ;)

im gettingt into tapes. Old Skool tapes of course from 1992 seems to hit the spot but you get loads of 'rips' for download and listen to them as though they are brand new.

Yeah DJs always play the tracks faster live. A 170bpm track at a hardcore event would feel slow.
I was listening to Hixxy & Recons mix on Bonkers 16 the other day....now that feels slow, like 170 or maybe even 168 :/
The Brisk & Ham mixes on HU tend to be quick :)
I never buy live packs though, never will.

I don't agree that faster is better. Too fast and tracks can start to sound too busy, lose weight and chipmunk vocals. Personally I'd prefer to see Hardcore (and D&B) go back to 160-165bpm to allow syncopation and groove to be put back in.

Yeah too fast and it definately gets silly. Regardless of tempo though, the speed Hardcore is at at the moment is FAR too high for the way in which it is produced (riffs designed to be around 140 bpm). One of the many reasons it's so bad.

Agreed. Lots of stuff sounds like its mainstream Trance played at the wrong speed.
On the original subject I'd say I prefer Live Packs as the tracks played are a better indication of what the DJ or crowd likes rather than what the record label want to promote. The downsides being the quality and MCing.
These days with the abundance of free downloadable studio sets I've virtually stopped buying mix CDs.
