I'm a huge fan of the 90's hardcore sound, takes me back to my youth. I have tried to replicate that sound here...
Got a good few others in progress. I will post them once complete. Feedback welcome

Really like that, mate. Been working on a few mid 90s style bits myself, not ready yet though. We need more of this stuff.

Excellent stuff. Love the stab in the middle. Sounds authentic so good job.

I was doing a tune in that style for the production comp. Then my hard drive died. It was going really ****ing well too.

Yeah I started one as well. To say the least, it didn't sound particularly good, which is frustrating that I'm having more joy writing more modern sounding hardcore then this style. Maybe just the vocal being better suited I suppose.

I started out thinking i wouldn't be able to come up with anything due to the vocal sounding really modern but i found a way. So disappointing, i was so happy with it.

You've still got time mate. I was bored tonight and did a 90's style remix, in about two hours. It could do with a hell of a lot of polishing to meet todays standards, but hell - that's why I did a 90's remix in two hours without sweating over it. If one other person likes it, I'm happy.
The point I was meant to make is - start again and do a better job of the last one, the more entries the better :)

Unless your hard drive is still knackered, in which case, please accept my apologies!

Ironically anything i do in a short amount of time is usually far better than when i spend a lot of time trying to make it as good as possible. In regards to my own tune, my hard drive actually died about 2 weeks ago and at that point i really did have enough time, but it was going to be so much work that i just couldn't bring myself to do it. I'd managed to record a load of things just right (hardware) and getting the same sound again would at the very least be a huge hassle but maybe not possible at all. But it was that fine tuning that made it what it was. It would have been by far my best tune, and then my hard drive dies. I was actually going to back up the project files but forgot. Funnily enough i was only using that hard drive because a few days previously my main hard drive had also died. Very unlikely outcome indeed.

Buggering hell that's no good :(
If I spend too long on a track, I get bored or find too many imperfections. Either that or I over-do it with pointless tweaks and additions and ruin everything.
I don't have a studio so mastering is out of the question - once my ideas are laid out I'll give it a once over as best I can but that's it. Rarely spend more then a day or so on a track. Maybe that's my downfall.

The challenge for me is always to get stuff done as soon as possible because there is a point where my ears become densitised to everything and once that happens it's pretty much over. But i never finish anything because this always happens. I've never finished a tune 100% to be honest. There is always some more work that needs to be done that doesn't get done because I'm not completely happy with what I've got.
I'm going to stop hijacking the thread now though lol
