Whilst I was in vinyl planet today, I got talking to a chap called Paul after mentioning I've dabbled in music production, in particular for hardcore. After a rather large and nostalgic conversation on hardcore, he very kindly gave me some sample pack CDs, Called X-Static Goldmine 1, 2, and 3!. From what I was told, these were very big in the day, and are extremely old sample packs (correct me if im wrong, but some of the first ever??) And popular with techno, trance and hardcore in the 90s. He later informed me that these had been passed onto him by non other than Billy Daniel Bunter, he didn't explain how he knew him but that he could put me in contact with him if I ever put together a good track. Bonus!! So does anyone else know of these sample packs? The other thing is, they don't play on a modern PC running a decent DAW, are they some mad CD format that only some ancient computer or synthesiser can play? As the disks are virtually scratch free.

Can you open the disks within windows/mac file explorer?

I had a quick look online and it sounds like they are Akai sample CDs, you should be able to open the akai files in Kontakt, or you can use this http://www.soundlib.com/cdxtract/ to convert them to a different format.

Also, sounds like they might well be worth a fair amount of money if they're originals so look after them!

Apparently you need to make an image of the disc and then mount that image, alcohol 120%, daemon tools or similar will help with that

I only played about with it for a few minutes, and gave up, but currently I couldn't access any of the data, nor open any. There is definatly data on the disks, so its a head scratch moment, I cannot complain tho as they were free. And really? I wouldn't sell these anyway as they were given/handed down to me out of a good will gesture :) heard there are some good oldskool breaks and rave stabs on these too.

Yeah, you need to make an image first, then mount that image, apparently. If you struggle then make the image and upload it and I'll see what I can do with regards to converting it to a more usable format for you
