So, I just had to replace my worn out copy with another copy. Let's chat about it! What was your favorite mix from Bonkers 6? Favorite tracks? Least favorite things about the album?
DJ Sy's mix is my top favorite. There are just so many great tracks on that mix. The mixing is solid. DJ Vibes is my next favorite. Even when I first got the album back in the early 2000s, I've always thought the tracks on Vibe's mix were just so oddball-ish (not that it makes them bad tracks or anything). His mix just seemed to be holding on to what was left of that old skool sound.
My least favorite mix is Dougal's. There's a few good tracks on there, but I just didn't care for the direction Dougal's production was going at that time with the vocal-less tracks.

Loved Bonkers 6 (except the Dougal disc)
Sy's mix was good, scratching was gold in some places, over the top in others and unneeded in a lot of places (like the melody of virtual dreams) - less could have been more there!
Vibe's disc was great, like you say, a solid selection of tracks from the tail-end of the older sound.
That and Hardcore Heaven 5 we the soundtrack to my Summer in 99!!

This the one?
https://www.discogs.com/Ramos-Supreme-And-Sunset-Regime-Sunshine-Gotta-Believe-Remixes/release/245238 I have it, played the Force and Styles remix the other week, can barely even remember what Sunshine sounds like.

Yeah it's a really good tune. Don't forget that it was first released on Hectic Rewinds in 1997, in case you have any difficulty finding a copy (probably not). I'm not sure what the difference is. The 're-edit' that i heard on youtube appears to be exactly the same as the 1997 release but i only skipped through it.

The scratching over the top of virtual dreams is fantastic I think, and well needed! it makes the track better in my opinion

I enjoy all 3 mixes of bonkers 6 and think all 3 mixes have brilliant tunes on them, but if I had to choose my favourite mix it would probably have to be sy's mix, and as already mentioned dougal & mickey skeedale- look at the stars is a fantastic tune! and seems to be better on bonkers 6, I've heard it a few other times elsewhere but it sounds slightly different, doesn't quite sound as good as on bonkers 6

I think the SY mix just captures the "then current" anthems of the time.

Vibes' mix was the first Hardcore I ever heard (a mate gave me the CD of his mix from the album).
Night Driving by James Venus is huge.

Brilliant compilation! Hard to choose a favourite mix, really hard to choose a favourite mix actually.

Overall impressions:
Dougal's mix is OK, some stand out tracks but a lot of filler as well; listening back, Ramos - Sunshine (Dougal & Skeedale remix) isn't a bad tune, did that ever get a release?
Sy's mix is good, well put together, couple of ropey vocals but nothing too terrible.
Vibes's is... inconsistent? Some great tracks on there (I still love "look at the stars"), but a few that I really don't care for.
I believe the reason Sharkey didn't do Bonkers 6 & 7 was because he either broken his arm or leg...cant remember which one it was.

Vibes' mix has always been a personal favourite of mine. Probably as cheesy as it gets but that might be why I love it so much :D. Tons of pianos, uplifting melodies and fun at a high tempo (180). My favourites include heaven, all i need is love, techno wonderland and especially this is the night. Mixing is a bit ehh at times but i wouldn't say it distracts all too much. Hixxy's had much worse transitions and beat-matching in some of his mixes anyway.
Sy's mix is my second favourite but i don't care as much for it as most of you probably do. Biggest reason for that is that i didn't like the quosh productions from that time (same problem with his bonkers 7 mix). The other tracks are mostly real bangers though (e.g flower needs the rain, give me a reason). Shout outs to the wicked scratching though, always made his mixes a lot more intersting imo.
Dougal's mix is wierd. It features most of favourite tracks of this CD but also most of my least favourites. I dislike the sound that dougal and skeedale had during the time. The melodies i generally didn't find catchy and the productions lacked energy and had a wierd soundset imo. Suprisingly I'm a fan of shelter for a dream, love both the melody and vocals. Best tracks are still the space invader, perfect dreams and the perfect eyeopener (favourite track of entire album) remixes.

That's why I didn't like Dougal's mix: the melodies in his tracks at the time just weren't catchy, and it's the same melody chords over and over and over.

the scratching on virtual dreams is one of my favourite parts, the oh my god sample as it comes in and then the funky along to the melody, ive tried recreating it myself many times, and i cannot, not even close haha, elevate captured as dougals opener is an absolutely superb piece of music, i dont think i have ever heard it anywhere else apart from on bonkers 6 either.
