Ok, so we are on the attack at the moment with releases that vary from the norm.

Have a listen to the clips- it will be no surprise that you wont like many or any of the new releases, but all feedback can be understood!! WOuld love to hear a run down of reactions, especially from the hardscape list below.

There is a new genre called hardscape. There are no events, its not popular and nobody has played a full set of 'Hardscape' yet. What is exciting for us making it is that we can do what we want. One producer called Electrux has gone down a kind of Techno root, Orbit1 has done some complex percussion in a sort of Euro style, yet there is still a theme, have a listen:

Hardscape seems like what Freeform wants to be. I approve.

Apparently most of my kickdrum tracks fall under this category as well somehow. I shall have to explore this further...

Thats interesting- i know there will be some discussion regarding Freeform, however if you say 'Freeform' to most people they immediatly think of certain producers and more importantly a certain sound- something which this has never intended to be.

Its lots of fun as no sales are expected and that strangely liberates us from sticking to rules or styles to 'sell' or get played. Its created a strange thing where musically you can try stuff, wheras the successful people are stuck in a rut, whether by their own choice or not, with off beat basslines a must, a snare, hit hat and ride sounding just like the others!

If you can work out anything good or bad about these tracks then it would be interesting.

I'm sorry, I've tried twice now to find some kind of difference between these clips and other tracks that are considered more mainstream. I just can't see what this "hardscape" thing is meant to be. To me it's still just hardcore, most of the clips are a bit darker than most hardcore that's around which for me has nearly always been a CLSM trait, but it's not different enough to be deemed new imo.

Sorry guys, not seeing the "new" in this "new" genre.

Some good clips there. As for the Hardscape sound, well there are some subtle differences, the kickdrum arrangement stands out, Audio X has a point about it sounding a bit like the old Freeform sound which at times had a lower BPM than an average hardcore track and the structure is similar.
Still it sounds cool.

Mainstream hardcore tracks use almost exactly the same snare/clap sound off beat bass, vocals in every track. A good example of this not being the case are the electrux tracks which are everything hardcore is not, the kickdrum is thundering, the percussion is loop based and i would expect that a mainstream hardcore head would find it very boring, plus its between 10 and 15 bpm slower. In fact its quite hard to find similarities with that stuff.

In terms of being new its a seperation of styles. Technology moves on but i dont think we will see the emergence of anything actually new such as was the emergence of drum and bass. I do see your point until I start thinking about it-... just kidding, you do have a point but i have highlighted the difference (even though it may seem slight to you). More, more.

Does it really have to be 160-165bpm? I don't get it i'm afraid, is it supposed to be hard dance? I like the clips there but i gotta agree with Mortis. I just don't see it as unique enough to be it's own genre. It's good don't get me wrong but it just sounds like slowed down GOOD hardcore (the type of stuff on Hardcore Underground etc) or freeform. I dunno i'm just thinking to me it sounds like it should just fall under freeform. But hey ho, good luck with it.

It's all music, and to me this is certainly different than UK Hardcore.

I want more =P would also like a revival of no trix...

Ok, speedwise it makes it a timy bit easier to get more heavy wih it a little slower, however anything above 160 means you can pitch it up to play around a hardcore speed if you want.

By all means call it freeform, telephone exchange vibe clacktor, hardcore or the long distant rumbles of Hempton Packett- as above, its just music.

Warning: Hardscape.

Hardscape is a fresh and exciting movement. There is already a lot of diversity and its barely started which is a good sign. Hopefully it wont become stale or corrupt like freeform has done.
