Jimmygoat I have further modified this since posting on a few other forums, time to make yourself heard, there is no reason for hard dance (which includes everything +140) not to be on radio 1, lets ave it!!

I was replying to another post when i wrote this bit below, I think if you came accross house music at a young age you would find 8 minute house tracks boring. Radio 1 is the only national station with dance music shows. If you find dance music through them you may well never know about the banging rushy exciting madness that happens beyond 140 bpm. This is wrong. More importantly it doesnt represent what is going on out there. Please take time to read my ramble below, bye.

i spent about an hour stood in a club in Cardiff on Friday (Time flies- James Zabeila was playing a 3 hour set) with a copy of g-core 2 (white label) which i had drawn a diagram on showing from 80-170 bpm with arrows pointing to shows starting with westwood and trevor nelson right up to fergie and the blank beyond that. I was explaining to Tom (deputy editor for Dj Mag) why radio 1 (of course it doesnt have to worry about advertising money where the mags do) should have at least one show to cover all the music it doesnt cater for and how it makes it worse to have 4 shows catering for 130-140 bpm.

Tasty at mass, 1800 people, Antiworld SE1 rammed, James (on sasha's agency) at time flies 300 people, yet most dance music coverage is about house....

Look at magazines with features, then flick through and their company has big adverts. This is the way it runs, its not about music. However radio 1 does not have this pressure, so being part of that and not representing other things is bad.

Here is my main point:
Dance music with a kick drum sells the same amount from 130 to 170 (yes hixxy's raver baby outsells loads of stuff Judge Jules puts out etc,). So even if that is only roughly speaking can you justify Seb, Fergie, Tong, Jules (8hours) for the zero (0) (nihil) amount of hours which have any specific show with a kick above 140.

Even looking just past 140 and EVEN ignoring the hardcore you have all the Tasty, Frantic, Heat, Antiworld etc with most dj's playing faster than radio 1's limit. With some of the biggest rooms dedicated to hardcore.

Look how this hedgehog has to swerve as this loonatic avoids oncoming police vehicles.
Oli G read this on possibly 3/4 boards now
even the gurn crew cant really argue with this post (i know they hate us hardcore lot),

I think what radio 1 play is all about what they want to be cool, and what they want people to like, not what people actualy like.

i think a ****ing fair few people would tune in if a hardcore show was on, to be honest, itd be the only reason for me to listen to the radio, i dont think ive listened since 1998? and if so, its only to tune into the legend john peels show for somthing random :)

Simon Yeah this is all so true, I don't listen to the radio anymore (like Oli probebly like 98 when I last actually tuned in a radio station). But why don't I listen to the radio?

that's the question.

well allthough being arsed is a major factor, and the crap humour of the dj's another!

The main reason is THEY DON'T PLAY WHAT I WANT TO HEAR!!!!

and I like ALL genres of music, and I mean ALL, and ALL genres of music are definatly not covered on any one radio station!

Haeobogoblin heh.. . . i'll just post ere wot i posted on ush. .

humn, this is a very interesting discussion.

basically - this is how i see stuff at the moment -

hardcore is back, this is slowly being recognised by a cupple of mags i.e. mixmag, who had the issue with brisk's cd on the front, and now every month have a top 5(or summin) hardcore releases -and this is the magazine that often said "hardcore is dead", which yes, i suppose it was on life support around the 99 time, but now everythings kicked back in and new events are starting up all the time, but i think that somthing needs to be done now, whilst hardcore is still on the rise, and i suppose the only way forward is to get stuff out into the public. now im not talking about full on commercialisation cuz that no doubt will do the scene no good, but to get people to hear it.

theres new hardcore comps. cummin out almost evrey 2 months now, such as the bonkers seris, hardcore heaven, hardcore till i die, etc. . people need to hear about hardcore whilst these new cds and stuff are still in cd shops so they can say "oh shit yeah. . i heard DJ <whoever> on radio one last nite playing hardcore - ooh look . . bonkers 11 (or woteva). .f**k yeah! im avin that"

i just think that summin needs to be done b4 the scene goes back to 99 with all the same sounds on tracks. . .which i can see happening with raverbaby tracks - im sorry, but thats the way i see it.

raverdave Radio 1 is shite, always will be cos a few people with beer bellies and grey hair choose the play list. Its to do with the drug culture in part, hard dance can't shake its association with drugs. The BBC probably thinks that if they played hardcore etc people would think they're promoting the dark side.

Nobody listens to radio one anymore anyway cos in the day time its the same 20 tunes played over and over untill the listeners cant take it any more, they swap over to local radio but then can't take the tin pot dj's and adverts. Then they think about radio 2 (god forbid!) before giving up completely!

Perhaps digital redio might change things, more stations and all that but i doubt it.

Charco more hardcore on the radio would be spot on!!!

There was a radio station in Ireland that played hhc/old skool on wed nites for two hours----then grew to playin it every nite of the week with special shows at the weekend....other than that-it was a normal radio station playin usual crap durin the day---then some dodgey radio station squeezed in on the frequency an i lost it!!! :o(

Tried to get onto BBC Radio sheffield----brick wall....never got anywhere...
..but there's always hardcore somewhere...so i'm still happy :)

--just bought £100+ of old hardcore CD's an singles :) well happy!!!!

DarrenJ Fresh FM in Adelaide in AUS played about 6 hardcore songs in a row last tuesday on the insomina slot (one being in japanese hardcore), and 1 really bad happy hardcore.
The presenter said that "she hoped alot of people dont tune out" and then afterwould she commented that she was glad one person rang up and said he liked it.
Plus they always play hocus pokus (sp) - heres johnny
so there showing some love over here.........

HPW I have posted this before, but ill say it again as it seems very relevant. John Peel showed hardcore to me and i liked it! I was quite randomly listening to his show a couple of years ago and he played a half hour set advertising Bonkers 9. When i heard this i was purely amazed as for years i had been listening to Dance music thinking "this could be faster" etc. I vagely knew Hardcore was out there but i didnt know it was so good or what it was like until i heard John Peels show! After listening to the promo i went out and bought the CD the next day.
I am still quite new to the scene, however i have been listening to Hardcore and goin to hardcore raves since then. Think of me as an example of how many others could find out about hardcore and be drawn in to the scene. People may not have much of a chance to hear hardcore because it is kept "underground". Also John did not only bring me in to Hardcore but also all my friends who i then told about it and played Bonkers to. They all fell in love with the BEST GENRE IN THE WORLD!
This could so easily happen to many more if given the chance.

hpw..
...get back!..the world is mine!!

I checked the schedule for Insomina and Odyssey & Dr Damage are the DJ's on some days, they are hardcore / freeform DJ's and work with NuEnergy quite alot... Since we (MasterWax) have a Japanese release coming out and we distribute via NuEnergy it was most likely the new MasterWax 5 which goes on sale soon... but of course can't be 100% on that...

Keep me informed :)

Jimmygoat john peel was sent the tune midway through last week. So tonight (Tuesday) is the first chance of him playing it but... i think it might be a bit too much to ask as it does mention his collegues and there must be rules about that??
