Not posted in tune promo's because it's a genuine question to you guys regarding it's failure. What should I have done different? What was missing? Was it actually "S**t" at the time?

Bad idea to go "gabber" well, more half cut eastern european. Nice to see what people can advise me with, even brutally.

Move to tracks if you like but I'm purely after the feedback rather than the track being promoted. Cheers.

What went wrong exactly? Low sales?

It sounds to me like the mids/highs are muddy. Maybe too many overlapping frequencies from different elements.

I'm not much of a gabber fan, but I like it quite a bit.

It's only wrong if you were trying to be formulaic. It sounds good enough as it is.

In all honesty it's not a "great" tune (imo) but your production is very good. This sounds like the kinda tune a decent producer comes up with in his early days, keep it up man.

I like it. Went well in that set of Crescendo tracks M@rt!n-J made.

Interesting thread. Credit to you for recognising when a track doesn't do what you want it to. Could I ask, how do you quantify that it was a failure?

I'm no expert on this genre, but I do think there's a mismatch between the modulating kick (which carries the bass note) and the lead which depends on that bass note to work.

You have a kick that bounces up and down notes quite sporadically, when you probably just needed the kick to serve the modulating bass to validate the lead that needs it.

This is my benchmark example of this. Listen to how the modulating kick serves the lead: (2:26)

Calling it a failure is a bit harsh. In retrospect and in comparison to the track Olly posted, to my ears, each track really is it's own thing.

I get the pitch thing moving in unison with the bass. But if you listen to Sam's track, it's more like a bass guitar playing a different bassline to a rhythm guitar section. It may be uncommon in dance music but it could happen in any other genre.

...and then they would call it as "thinking outside the box"

!

PS: Success in hardcore...

Is it really what we think it is?
