They were referring to 1991/92 stuff, as that's what Sy's Old Skool sets were in 1997.
This being one of the best technical Old Skool mixes you'll ever here. Special mention @ 25:35 when he catches DJ Edge 'Compnded' and starts scratching. Atmosphere great on the recording too.

A year would have been a long time in music back then I guess. I can imagine there was a lot of nostalgia for the 91/92 breakbeat kicking in once the music started to move apart. Listen old sets from that era you sometimes think it was over a period of decade not just a couple of years

I once heard a Dutch set from 1995 that actually included some 91/92 tracks from the UK in it even though a lot of it was Dutch/Euro Gabber. I think the same set had a few 95 UK breakbeat as well which was unusual in the Netherlands
