No. They're belt-drive, so I'd reccomend not getting them anyway mate.

Belt Drive is as good as saying "no". 
The only other tables other than SL1200's that I've scratched on are Numark TT-1910 Direct Drives and those were even a little rough..
It depends on how you scratch. Some people scratch with the record more, whereas some use the fader more (if this makes sense)...
I think it IS possible to scratch on a belt drive (maybe), but you'd have to work the fader quite well i'd assume. It's just that belt drives jump way too much if you bump them, and the slightest touch sends them to a halt. You'd have to have some class slipmat's on those suckers anyways... nice cartridges.
Just my opinions!

Yes everyone is correct, I have attempted to scratch with a belt drive (years and years ago) and the "belt" just comes off under the plator and the turntable doesn't work unless you pop the top and fix it.

Tut Tut Robert how many times do u have to be told (LOL). Seriously though belt drives are useless apart from door stops. I know u will be itching to get some gear but trust me and everyone here its better to wait and get some quality gear.

It's nothing personal.. You can't scratch on a belt drive it's just the same as saying you can't put water in your car and expect it to work.

Ha ha ha...Okay..I KNOW that the stanton STR8 (Direct, of course) works. It says it's for scratch perverts or something so i guess it'd be ok.

robert : not meaning to get on your case... but how do you KNOW those will be good? because "it" (a catalog i suppose) says it is? make sure you understand what you are buying!!
fortunately, the stanton str8's are decent entry level tables. the straight tone-arm would insure better scratching because it will jump around less. hope you can pick up a pair of these and i hope it goes well!

Best thing to do is goto the shop and use them, talk to people, you will find most people will just say SL1200's because they are the "standard" but the shop should know whats an alternative.

i've just bought citronic pd1's and the guy in the shop said i could scratch a little. could any of you give me an idea of what he meant by a little, cos i don't know how much to do b4 overdoing it.

I recommend getting the slick slitmatts and placing plastic sheets under the slitmatts for extra slippage, that way you wont be pulling on the platter and perhaps damaging the motor.
