As ive been here a while and i havent seen it before i thought it'd be good for everyone to post why/what they love about hardcore... you know why you're in the scene and why you have never left. This goes for all kinds of hardcore guys, Uk hardcore, gabber, freeform, old skool 95 stuff (not looking at anyone in particular). And why not tell everyone how you got into the scene in the first place as well. It may sound a bit corny to some of you but imo this is the sort of shit people need to hear more often, and never forget. Lets try and stay away from slagging other peoples opinions and stuff as well yeah? Im hoping this will bridge the gap between some of us (Example: 95_was_the_time and everybody else) and help everyone realise we're all the same at heart.

Ill go first. I got into the scene when i randomely heard Angel eyes by mistake one day. I actively sought out stuff by brisk and then ham/eclipse, then vagabond and the whole next gen crew, then it spurred out into the raverbaby and quosh crew and it jsut grew and grew from there. Ever since then im hooked.

My first rave was about two years ago (Prophecy - ultraviolet - any aussies might remember) and all i can remember is how nice and welcoming everyone was, everyone was looking out for you, so easy to meet new people and music was BANGING. EASILY the best night of my life. Thus, ive never left.

and the rest of you? Id be really interested to see if someone like brisk, impact or deejaybee posted here.

well im NOT going to lie..

A few years ago when i was in grade 6 or so, my friend told me about a program called '******' (i didnt know it was illegal or anything back then) and i started getting music from it. In grade 6 later in the year i found a website www.newgrounds.com, i started watching flash movies, then slowly moved on to the Audio portal. I heard some artists, then i heard some really influencing artists like ParagonX9 & BOUNC3, i was instantly hooked on the deep clubby melodies and breaks etc.. I wanted to make music like Paragons..So i got FL Studio 5.0, after about a year of mucking around, i started to use presets and sequence them layered with dnb drums at 170 bpm and started to submit, myself, to the audioportal. I started meeting some people and started to do tracks with them. One day on limewire, i searched under 'Techno' and it came up with 'Neverending Story HAPPY HARDCORE remix'. I played it and i was instantly hooked on the pumped up synthesizers, chirpy vocals, and non stop giddy energy. I said to myself, i wanted to make this.

After one attempt of a happy hardcore song, which resulted in terrible reviews, some threatening, i kept doing it and collabed with another artist to make 'Sky Star'. Alot of people liked this track so i kept making happy hardcore and 'downloading' yes downloading happy hardcore tracks. Not so long after, i was the only happy hardcore artist (of the VERY few) on newgrounds to get multiple downloads over 300 each track, and also got to the most happy hardcore tracks on Newgrounds.com.

I heard about Bonkers and ordered some of the compilations, it really struck me and i continued to create happy hardcore and love it. I started getting messages from people on Newgrounds.com calling me 'Gay' 'Girly', telling me to '**** Off' i created one last track and left newgrounds. I discovered happyhardcore.com, lurked on it for a year or so and finally joined. And this is whatz with nova now :)

from a young age i was brought up with hard dance/trance when i used to get taken to man city matches in my mates car. i was addicted to the tunes and pulsing bass and wanted powerful music that i could be proud to say i listened to. So i had a look around and got into early groove armada, timo maas and so on (far off hardcore). When i reached secondary school i became a bit more technical and decided to research it and ended up finding some internet radio sites and so on.. my first hardcore track was probably "i became hardcore" by scott brown (how convinient) ever since then it was a case of filling my shelves with albums and finding out dutch, freeform, old school and so on, now it drains my money and takes up all of my time but its worth it.

I got into the scene in 1990 through my older cousin. I hated most commercial chart music & was always into different faster styles of music that the majority of people hadn't heard of. As soon i found Hardcore i fell in love with it & still love it as much today. Through listening to Hardcore i then picked up on the Jungle / Drum & Bass scene in around 93 sometime & have continued to be heavily into it since then. I'm also a massive Gabber fan aswell & collected all the Masters of Hardcore, Thunderdome, Darkcore & Hardcore to the Bone albums which i think are quality. As for Hardcore albums i pretty much have every album you can think of, Although there is one or two i still need to find copies of. The same goes for D&B albums although i don't have quite so many. I'm always constantly buying vinyl aswell so you could say i'm a bit addicted. I hated towards the end of 99 when Hardcore went stale & finding new stuff was really difficult. Vinyl was scarce & CD's were none existent as i had no access to a computer. So i was relieved when it found a new direction & began to get massive again. I have been to more raves than i can remember but going to the Sanctuary for Dreamscape 23 was something else, by far the best time of my life. In the summer of 2006 i finally bought a decent PC & was chuffed to become a member of this site as it gives me the chance to chat to fellow hardcore loving ravers like myself. I personally think Hardcore is like a drug. Once you have heard it your hooked for life.

i found it by mistake in a way.
even when i was younger i liked dance music, tho it was the more commerciual stuff (first cd i ever bought was bomfunk mc's - uprocking beats).
then the day before nys when i was 15 (2000/01 i think it was)a mate told me about this rave he was going to n asked if i wanted to go, so io did n had the time of my life! it was just like influx said: immense music and the friendliest bunch of people i'd ever met!
then i didnt go to another rave for about 2yrs.
i randomly found out about one a few years later n i dragged my lil bro along to it. at one point i went to go find him n he was talking to some random dude who happened to be one of the dj's. he gave me a mix cd he did, n i loved it. i started going to any of his gigs that i heard about by keeping intouch with him online, and from there i started to discover hardcore n became a regular at a club where i've been going frequently for the past 3 yrs n where i got my first ever dj-ing gig :D

the first songs i ever remember hearing n loving (and still love to this day) were:
hixxy & styles - the theme
scott brown - neckbreaker
breeze & styles - heartbeats
scott brown - turn up the music (breeze n styles remix)
breeze & styles - the beat kicks
scott brown - elysium +

im not going to lie.... I think Scooter got me into happyhardcore.

Come on Scooter was great eh!?

But yeah back in the day (2000 ish) I used to be really into hard dance etc... but then I got one of scooters albums. I listened to tracks like Scooter - Endless Summer and instantly got interested in the faster sound of things. I don't know how but I picked up a copy of Scott Brown - Happy Hardcore (an australian release) which I was instantly hooked on.

From there I went in search of more happyhardcore cd's and picked up 'The Ultimate Happy Hardcore Album' it was a 6 cd pack mixed by dougal and vibes. I still listen to it to this day and yeah it basically went from there.

Eventually I really got into the mixing side of things, I was curious about how people mixed tracks together and the structural side of things, so I picked up some decks and it went from there. Now im still listening to it 7 years later and I love it.

So yeah :)

My brother used to mix it back in the days of "oldskool" and got me into it. He mixed the happy stuff for a bit but decided he didn't like the new direction, I loved it and stuck with it. That's it really. I just love the energy of the music and I don't think it lost it when they made trancecore/freeform or the new UK stuff. The ridiculous amount of similar sounding vocal tunes is getting a bit tedious now but there is no shortage of good new stuff if you're wiling to look for it.

First rave I went to was 98/99 time (can't remember exactly). It was a free rave near where I lived some of my older mates where going to and I couldn't resist the invitation. Loved it. Everyone was so safe and it was just so much better than any other parties I had ever been to. There was some hardcore there which seems mighty rare for free raves these days.

First legal Hardcore rave was Best of British 2001. I was actually going for the DnB and oldskool rooms and didn't know there was hardcore there as I hadn't seen the flier! Spent most of my time in the hardcore room 8).

It was also 2001 I started mixing hardcore and a few years later I started learning to produce it. Can't see me getting bored with it any time soon! I am into lots of other types of music though which I think helps keep things interesting.

Ive always had a pretty broad musical taste.
But I was still mostly into the bands meaning anything from alternative rock to hardcore metal, my favorite being hardcore metal. Sick guitar shreds and fast drum patterns where my extacy. Even though I was mostly into this style Ive always had a couple mix CDs laying around of random tunes I would download off the net (as I think back I remember one CD being my favorite with tunes like Eye Opener, Hardcore Vibes, 99 red ballons and some German happy vocal stuff). More than a few of them where electronic styles mostly trance, dnb & hardcore (although I didn't even know these genres existed as I never bothered to find out, it was all electro to me). Then around 2000 I was browsing around for some internet radio stations and the word "hardcore" caught my eye. Of coarse during this time the first thing I thought was hardcore metal so I gave it a try... and I was immediatly interested. I started to do more searches from then on and eventually found DI.fm & HHC.com.
I would have the radio playing mostly from when I got home until I went to sleep. Started lurking around various sites, eventually joined up here & got in the chat room while I would listen to the radio & got to know a few DJs and producers.
Then around '04 I took the plunge and bought the newmark battle pack and started practicing in my neighbors garage (which we decked out into a little mini club XD). Since then ive upgraded my setup, ordered a shit load more vinyls, and got involved in my local scene bit by bit.

first time i remember hearing hardcore was at a summer camp i worked at. this other counsellor in my cabin used to blast eye opener as a "wake up song". i had never heard it before, found it kinda annoying, but after i left the camp i found it online and then that summer i went to an outdoor festival where there was a hardcore tent.

i went to a hullabaloo in toronto (best production company EVER) and yeah. after that i was hooooooooked!!

i like how the music has always been able to brighten my day no matter what, nothing gets me more than an awesome + fast 3/4 beat /breakbeat sound you find sometimes (you know, where it goes all quiet), the filters used to **** with the sounds in some mixes (djm 800 anyone), the one bar drop downs (or whatever u wanna call em) right before you reach a "1" while counting (does that make sense to anyone..?) and the lovey vocals + some of the synths are just outta this world too. i can just go off to my own little world of rave fun any minute of the day just by putting it on.

it's candy for my ears/brain and who doesn't like candy. c'mon!!

hmmmmmm well around like age 7 my dad would play electronic music, mostly Lords of Acid and i would wake up blasting my ears out every morning like WTF! Then around age 10 or so I went through his cd rack and found this random ass gabber cd ::::House Party 12 - The '94 Summer Of Love Edition::::, I was like "hell yea!" for a while then it kinda pissed me off cause I wanted more ;_; So I got my dad to take me to "Modern Music" in Baltimore, Maryland (USA) and got a few dnb albums, Megashira: Zero Hour and some Alex Reece cd, it made me alot happier cause it was the coolest stuff i had heard in a while...and then I got a cumputer! I started ...umm "recieving" tracks from the internet and I think the first song I..."recieved" wasssss ......I think "Rush Hour", a HHC track but i dunno the artist, good song though still my fav. and ive been listening ever since.
