To download an album you've bought?

I ask because i recently came across all the ORIGINAL hardcore heaven series on a ******* download site whilst googling them and at some point i have owned all of them but the cds have either got lost, stolen, borrowed and never returned or scratched to buggery......

so yea, is it actually illegal to download something you've already bought???

it is most likely just as illegal as downloading something that you have never previously owned by purchase.

isn't it also illegal to rip a cd that you have purchased into mp3s to put on your media players? i know it's illegal to make a copy of cds without the consent of the label of the cd, but I'm wondering if this counts too.

Technically yes but if you paid at some point who cares aye. Of course if you ended up in court for whatever reason I don't think it would be a valid excuse. :P

i thought you were entitled to make backup copies for personal use as long as you have kept the original

ie: not copied onto mp3 player then sold the cd

It is just as illegal. Morally though - i don't see a problem.

Who cares. No one is making money from these CD's anymore so it literally makes no difference. The label is so dead that no one would care enough to take you to court even if they did find out.

I find it strange that it would be illegal to rip mp3's off a CD when even Windows Media Player has the feature. I don't really see the problem in downloading an album you've bought either. You paid for it fair and square, so what's the big deal

The recording industry called. They say they want your dismembered head in a box delivered to their front steps. So what do you prefer? Axe? Or cleaver? Maybe hedge trimmers?

But really, what the others have said.

I know there have been stories floating around from record companies yielding large amounts of money for stolen songs. Here's a story. http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/06/18/minnesota.music.download.fine/index.html

But, my father downloads albums he already purchased, and being from the government as he is he claims it's legal to have if you have the rights. I'm guessing that would be the CD case with all the technical stuff inside. Makes sense to me.
