The Championship got underway on Friday and yesterday, The Community Shield is this afternoon, England play mid-week, and The Premiership gets cracking next weekend. The new season is here, and I'm massively looking forward to it.

Just a general thread to talk about the new season really.

New signings your looking forward to seeing? Predictions? What's this young, sexy new Chelsea manager going to be like? How's your team going to do? Will people continue to believe that Carlton Cole is actually a footballer? Can Balotelli get any more unlikable? Will people finally realise John O'Shea is a Championship-level defender, now he'll get more game-time at Sunderland? Will Ryan Giggs finally test positive for some age-reversing drug that he's clearly been taking for the last few years?

Also, whack in any private league pins for Fantasy Football. I know Olly "Tell It Like It Is" Clapp has set up a UK Hardcore league, which a few of us have joined already, but I can't seem to find the pin. So whack that out for us please Olly :-P

I'm looking forward to it, my local team started yesterday with a score draw in League 1, now I look forward to seeing my beloved Tottenham fail in the Premier league...Still it's worth watching them lose just to see Bale going on those mazy runs.

As for over here the Belgium, the Jupiler League has been up and running for a couple of weeks now and Chelsea have just purchased the Belgian Emile Heskey lol, no where near Premiership quality...But he is very young and there is a chance he can improve I suppose!

My local team is West Ham, but I don't actually "support" anyone. I used to think I was a Manchester United fan when I was a wee lad, but that was purely because they were the only ones on TV at the time (with Champions League being the only available stuff for non-Sky customers). But then I got to about the age of ten and realised it was ridiculous to support a team that is miles away and I've never even seen play live. Aside from that, I've got a huge soft sport for Swansea after taking them to seven consecutive Champions League finals on Championship Manager 03/04 (the last good one). I'm going to try and get to a few of their London away games this season.

Ha ha! Is that what he's really like? I have seen zero footage of him, but there is a straggering amount of hype about him. All I know is that he was top scorer in Belgium two years ago when he was only 16. Heskey is awful. I hope he is better than him. Have never ever rated him. I can't believe he's stayed around in The Premiership for so long.

Chuffed that Aguero's come to England though. Whether he'll be able to adapt, or whether it'll be another Robinho situation, we'll have to see.

The mighty juggernaut that is Man United will once again crush everyone (except Barcelona) beneath them. Joey Barton and Craig Bellamy will be nominated for a Nobel peace prize. My beloved Barnsley will once again destroy the pathetic excuse for a football team that used to be Leeds. Chelsea will sign EVERY player in the world in the next transfer window - but still get knocked out of the champions league by a Hungarian 7th division side.

Some interesting thoughts there, Dean. Thanks for sharing. :-/

Really not sure about who's going to win the title this season. United definitely need to make a central midfield signing. Anderson, Carrick, Fletcher, Park; and Giggs occaisonlly playing centrally is not good enough. Nasri would have been a great signing. Sneider as well.

I guess it'll be between Chelsea and United. They're not necessarily any better on any given day than the other teams, they're just significantly more consistent than the other teams. City will be in the mix for most of the season probably. Same for Arsenal, with Liverpool and Tottenham behind them.

Everon will either be pushing for 5th or 6th, or have one of their weird seasons and be flirting with relegation for two thirds of the year. Villa - not sure what's happening there. Doesn't look promising. Then the rest is just an average mix of everyone else - Sunderland, Blackburn, Fulham, Stoke, Bolton, Newcastle - fcuk all between them over the course of a season.

Then you've got the weaker teams: Newly promoted sides as well as perpetual strugglers like Wigan and Wolves. Apart from Swansea, I don't really know anything about the sqauds of Norwich and QPR. Difficult to tell who's going to go down. I wouldn't mind seeing Wolves go down, purely because I get really irritated with Mick McCarthy's tiresome, depressing attitude in every press interview after every match.

Portsmouth last minute equalizer, 2-2. Southend win 1-0, Colchester 4-2 over PNE. Arsenal lose. Good weekend.

Not for this site specifically, but Olly did create a "UK Hardcore" one. (I need to try and find the league pin for that).

I'd be up for it if you wanted to set one up though mate?

I agree with most of what you're saying there mate, but La Liga as a whole isn't that strong.

Barcelona and Real Madrid are phenomenal teams. Probably the best two, if not the first and third, club teams in the world. But the other Spanish teams are a long way off those two teams, in terms of quality. 25 points seperated 1st and 3rd in La Liga last year (Barca 96, Madrid 92, then Valenica 71). That's a huge gap. Where as 25 points in The Premiership took you from United at the top, all the way down to Everton in 7th.

I think when people say it's the best league in the world, they mean it's the most competitive and exciting. I don't think they necessarily mean it has all of the best players in the world.

Totally agree with you about the number of native players though. There's a shockingly low percentage of home-grown players in The Premiership. That translates through to our poor national team.

Really looking forward to this season. Should be properly exciting. I much prefer to watch a league over the course of a season where only a few points separate the top four or five teams. La Liga is going to be Barca and Madrid dominated for at least the next five years. They play great football, sure, but bit of a yawn-fest from a neutral perspective, as a competition.

true bt nw i think england have an old firm situation with man u n chelsea fightin it owt for trophys n arsenal n liverpool fightin 4 3rd man city will gt 4thas arsenal n liverpool usually lose ground near the end n one of em usually dnt finish in the top 4 but if man city win the league i'm done with football until they go bk 2 what they shud b...a mid table team who dnt win anything (if i have offended any man city fans...good coz they dnt deserve a trophy the only way man city cn win anything is by doin what they r doin nw...spendin millions...the arabs will get bored n u will go bk 2 bein an average team)
