Just wonderin if any of you have used or regularly use the pitchable cd decks in your sets? Personally, I think im gonna save up and get one just to put new tracks into my sets (as well as real old stuff thats no longer pressed). It sure beats the quality of dubplates I'd say...
Also I think it would be fun to make a cd with a bunch of loop phrases... breakz, samples, whatever.. and use it for cutting.
Last I saw the gemini's dont go for that much... as cheap as 300 or so i think?

Hey, that's a good idea!!! ^_^ Thanx! I never thought of that as I don't have any CD's :( But I am buying equipment to make hhc and that would be a great way to integrate songs I make (If I make them) into a set ^_^

Yeah I know some producers like Scott Brown do this as well for his new tracks. As for old tracks, be careful as MP3's on a CD-R played over a big PA system really sound bad.

It wasnt till recently that i realised just how common CD players are at events in this country (UK). I was checking the DJ area at raindance and noticed a pioneer CD player in the set up. After chatting to DJ Ponder i found out that all/most of the top DJ's here use them for their new tracks.

I like cd decks. A year ago i got a half decent twin tray and started hauling it out to sets to drop in some of my own material (about the only way i'd beable to test run some of my stuff). Now more clubs/events here have cd decks as well (esp since more demos and new material are floating among some dj's on cd - energy and kaos were dropping stuff off cd when they were here a couple weeks back....)
For my tunes ...I've also goten dub plates done .. and it's good to hear how the material changes when put to dub ... but once you have cd decks, $1 a blank is quite cheaper than $80 a plate (CDN :P )
I find cd's harder to mix than vinyl .. mostly because you digially controll cd's .. as opposed to physically touching the platter with vinyl. But it just takes time to get used to.
Vinyl also sounds different than cd's ... but if a system is set up right and you've got a decent CD Deck and a decent mixer to feed into ... the sound isn't too far off. (and ya .. some mp3's just suck ass when ripped to cd ;) But yer own material works well if burnt right from a propper PCM .WAV file.

i don't know...as easy as it is to use the CD decks...there is just something about the feel of vinyl under your fingers as you play...one of my friend's spins goa offa cd...but i mean i would rather play offa vinyl...but to each his own...

I agree with you that vinyl is much much much + infinite more much's better, but when it comes to getting dubplates pressed.... cds are easier.. i would never do a full set with just cds...

goodness...if youre gonna use an unmastered cd, at least have it be a .wav file.
