what's everyone's opinion on the difference between vocal and non-vocal hhc? by vocal i mean something that has a more traditional lyrical set up, like "shooting star". non-vocal is more like instrumental, something like "the lights" by los bonitos.

personally, i find that its easier for me to REALLY like a single vocal song. but if i was faced with listening to a whole cd of vocal hhc or a whole cd of non-vocal hhc, id probably pick the non-vocal.

When just chilling out the vocal stuff is wicked but when it comes to a rave the non vocal stuff does it for me. It is wicked when a DJ drops a massive vocal tune mid set though. Something like "ride like the wind". What a rush.

Can't make my mind up. Probably go for Vocal, but love full sets of none vocal.

i totally love the vocal stuff more...i mean when a DJ can mix the vocals smoothly as well as the beats...that is the shit...but that is just my 2 cents...

Hi everyone.....

Just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents....

Both vocal and non vocal have a place in most styles of music, but the thing to remember is that with a non vocal track, very rarely it gets a remix and consequently a re release. It does happen, (so dont start flaming with examples) but not as often.

I know that with my material, most tracks are now on at least their second re release. "Shooting Star" has had about 7 remixes over the last couple of years although not all have been released.

So, with vocal tracks, the song stays constant, and can give rise to many new remixes and inspire new people coming into the scene to create great tracks.

So the debate isnt as clear cut, vocal tracks will always have the advantage as they will get reborn for quite possibly many years to come.

Personally, I think the instrumental tracks have to be extremely creative to carry off a track for a full 6 minutes and keep the interest level up. So those tracks that manage to do that and the producers that create them, have my utmost respect. Vocal tracks can rely on a great hook to carry the instrumentation quite a long way thru the mix....but you get the two working together...

you got an anthem!

Think the greatest appeal for me about happy hardcore is the vocals and piano so I'd have to say that vocal happy hardcore is my favourite, although some non vocal tracks are excellent.

Alex.

i think that vocal is more uplifting but if you throw in a sample or a lady screaming her head off in a non vocal it is just the same. personally i love the vocal tracks because you get that feeling all over your body and you know something major is gonna happen!!

"play nothing but hardcore"
