can ne 1 tell me what the difference is to use cd rather than vynal. which would b better to use and were do i buy the decks from cheap as im on a tight budjet

Interesting article that. And very true :)
I have decks and 1 cd player and im happy with that. I think the perfect setup is no doubt 2 of each but to start with i would reccommend vinyl because it is more widely available. but i will be getting anither cd deck soon to complete my collection

You could easily get away with just suing CD decks. THere's enough DJ's I know that only play sets on CD - Oli G, Mozz, Thumpa.
Both is best but CD is so much better than vinyl that you'd be daft to ignore it. If you ahve a record player at home or a friend with decks you can buy the tunes on vinyl and transfer them to CD. Remember you can get about 10 tracks on a CD. How much lighter is that than 10 records?
Also You can take your Cd decks into clubs/bars that don;t have them and easily plug them in as they are very portable.
CD is the way forward. I mean look at the Numark CDX-1 fro the real technoligical advancements in the field.

I'm sure that this is going to sound stoopid to some (if not all) of you, but as a person with neither I have to ask - which is more fun to use? Only reason is that I want to start up simply for fun and nothing else, so that's all that matters to me......

Well to be honest mate i think vinyl is a little more fun unless you get a real top cd deck. You can be a bit more inventive and do scratching and stuff( unless you spend 900 quid on 2 pioneer cdj 800 - 1000s :) )
But really just go down a shop and have a play with em and see what ya think

Not all mate. If you want to spend a bit less then i recommend you start of with some 2nd hand techniks or a pair of gemini sa600s or summing along those lines. Theire descent enough to start with as long as you do realise you will have to upgrade later if you wanna get more out of em. Then your looking at 350 for 2 decks ( i think )

cheers - finally something that actually is in my price range, but (yet another question I am sure everyone is sick of by now) what is the actual difference bewteen say the 1210's and these gemini sa-600, in fact from the blurb (at least the small chunks of it i understand) the gemini are better - +/-10 insted of 8, 33/45/78rpm instead of 33/45 - am I missing something really obvious here???

technics are much more precise and they hold the pitch much better than pretty much any turntable on the market, they last for a looooong time as well
edit: latest technics goto +/- 16%, and 78 rpm is useless unless you're playing really really old records from back in the day... that or some other impracticle use of 78 besides making people laugh =)

... if you want to go down the CD path, a set of Pioneer CDJ-100's or something else on that level. My mate's got a set of these and I can honestly say that I have almost as much fun on these as on a set of proper turntables.

You could play gabber on 78 to get it into a speedcore set. Though 16% is still a little restrictive in those terms. And if you choose MK5's over TTX-1's then you really are a mug.

I'm looking on ebay (the last resort of the desperate and skint  ) and I keep finding references to numark tt-1's and tt-2, I am guessing that these are different to the ttx-1, but I can't find anywhere that actually tells me if they are different / how so - please help................anyone???

ttx s are the top table from numark. The y have a considerably higher torque and more feutures than the other turntables by numark ( and than technics ) :)
