Thats a good idea. I don't like the idea of replacing prom night though. Thats kind of dumb. Just suck it up for a few hours. But an all-ages rave is awesome. Since I can't go to any raves, it's a great idea!!! Think about the kids.

Latest Letters have been sent to ELEVEN people!
The letter reads as follows:
quote:
Hello All!
My name is Connor Penhale, I'm a student at Denver University High School. I wrote recently to some of your organizations (DPA, The Spot, Urban Peak) regarding a youth event, and some of you I am writing to for the first time.
I am attempting to organize a youth event for next or, if time permits, this year around the time of Colorado's Prom Nights (2 or 3 weeks from now, late May, early April). The purpose of this youth event, which may not have been effectively communicated in my previous letter, is to promote responsible raving, and to remove the stigma of sex, drugs, and breaking and entering from the word 'rave.'
This youth event would accomplish this by promoting safe sex, and drug abstinence, but at the same time creating an exciting dance experience. The safe sex aspect of the event would be preferably promoted through HIV/AIDS community outreach speakers from the Colorado AIDS Project. For the drug abstinence and education, I look to the Drug Policy Alliance for ideas.
The dance aspect of this event would be accomplished by myself and my promoter friends, and preferably with the help and support of Urban Peak and The Spot, for help and ideas on mobilizing the youth, and spreading the word of the event. I have offers from 4 DJ's offering to drive at farthest all the way from Illinois to DJ the event. Two local DJ's would do it for only the cost of gas money, and a DJ from Nebraska would play just for the publicity. The electronica community has expressed a lot of support for this! See here --> http://happyhardcore.com/forums/topic.asp?whichpage=2&TOPIC_ID=20242 ! I will be gathering support for this on other local forums as well. So where is your bottom line? This is a fundraiser event. Every group that participates will recieve large percentage of gross earnings, donation, free publicity, and a chance to get a large amount of Colorado students involved in their groups. If we can get this event off the ground next year, GREAT! If we can get this off the ground this year, even better! I have included the letter I have drafted previously, and I look forward to hearing from all of you! This is a real chance to get to Colorado students and at-risk youth. What would I like to hear back from you about? 1) What do you think of the event? Do you think an event with these themes would work out from a theme standpoint alone? 2) From a feasability standpoint, do you think that a non-profit event such as this could generate enough money to get your groups interested, and still pay for a venue? 3) What information am I leaving out in this letter? What more would you like to know? 4) Are there any more people or groups I should contact? If your particular group feels that they can't offer anything, please respond as best as you can, and I will be more than happy to remove you from my list of contacts. Thank you all so much! I look forward to hearing from your groups! Connor Penhale DJ R-U-X
So what do you guys think? Mind answering the questions I asked! Thanks! ----------------------------- lookame! Ima attention whore!

And....
Our first real response comes from the New Mexico group PartySmart!
quote:
Hi Connor,
> I am attempting to organize a youth event for next or, if time permits, this year around the time of Colorado's Prom Nights (2 or 3 weeks from now, late May, early April)
I would recommend working with an experienced promoter to put this on, as there are many aspects of event promotion to learn. In order to ensure that all goes well, even an experienced promoter often takes months of planning, team-building, budgeting, community relations, marketing, etc.
> 1) What do you think of the event? Do you think an event with these themes would work out from a theme standpoint alone?
This sounds like a fun and informative event. I think you would get your best feedback on the theme from those who you hope will participate. Try to involve them in exploring thematic ideas, so that they feel like it is *their* event.
> 2) From a feasibility standpoint, do you think that a non-profit event such as this could generate enough money to get your groups interested, and still pay for a venue?
These kinds of events are usually considered successful if they break even. They rarely generate enough money for fundraising purposes. Talk to an experienced promoter about budget, and you'll find there are a lot more expenses to consider than you might think.
> 3) What information am I leaving out in this letter? What more would you like to know?
>
> 4) Are there any more people or groups I should contact?
ACLU, SSDP, various student organizations.
I wish there was still a chapter of DanceSafe in the Denver area. There used to be one several years back. (Perhaps you would like to start a new one.) They could have helped to educate partygoers about how to keep themselves and their friends safe. We use a harm-reduction approach in which we try to help people learn to take care of health and safety (for themselves and their friends), whether or not they are abstinent from drugs. It's not all about abstinence, because that might exclude a lot of people you want to reach.
Thanks,
Geoff Chesshire

YAY!
So, you heard the man! Get involved! I need some ideas! Lets hear em!
Theme? Decor? DJ's? LETS HEAR EM!
