This is a new thread because I found another example of the noise I am hearing in Hardcore music and it comes from Clubland X-Treme Hardcore 8. I really want to find out what's going on.

At the very start of Clubland X-Treme Hardcore 8 Darren Styles mix.
Darren Styles & Gammer You & I Intro Mix is played it started with a piano. I can hear this noise in that piano. Every time the longer note is played I heard that sound.

I have previously said it's mostly in the right channel but I have discovered that like the rest of my body my right ear is better than the left. If I turn off the right speaker and turn around so the left speaker is on my right side I can hear it.

Can anybody else hear this and is there a way we can find out what it is?

I have tested and can hear it on everything from my KRK Rokit 5's, Audio Technica ATH M-50x, Pioneer DJ HDJ X10, Mac mini Late 2018 using both internal motherboard audio and Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 Sound cards, Custom built PC using both internal motherboard audio and Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 Sound cards, iPhone using those Headphones and even Pioneer DJ CDJ & DJM with both sets of headphones.

I can also Hear this on AirPods 1st generation connected to iPhone and iPad but it is quieter which I'm guessing is because of the lower frequency response but its still there.

Here is a clip of what I mean I have filtered it out so you can hear it clearer. also include the original with no filtering.

Turn your volume down as this is quite sharp sounding due to the filtering.

Played through about 5 times. nothing.

I'm not saying things like that don't happen. I know that in Dougal and Gammer "right here by my side" there is an artifact in one place. I just overlook it.

From my own testing I have found people over 35 to 40 can?t hear it at all. Or if your ears are damaged or weaker like my left ear.

Or perhaps it only effects certain people or perhaps there is some issue that only some people have. I can only confirm 3 people can hear it. But they are all under 35. I don?t have a very big sample size which is why I?m hoping someone on hear can hear it and perhaps knowing significantly more than me could tell me what it is.
It has only become an issue in recent years because I used to use old Apple headphones and cheap ?20 headphones off amazon but now I have invested in better equipment I can hear it.

I hear a crackle in the right hand side on each of the longer notes (played in the left hand/bass notes); it's most prominent in the 0.12 second long note. In some of the other long notes it appears to be happening in time with the echo.

I couldn't say exactly why it's happening though as it could be any number of things from when it was mastered originally as a track, to when it was re-mastered for the CD pressing, to when it was ripped and downsampled to mp3.

tested using ATH-M50s

Thank you Triquatra. I can now say 4 people can hear it. I hear this issue in a lot of things like the Just Another Label and Stompin Choonz remasters. Have it all al storm Remix from his newest CD also has it but not on Happy Hardcore Underground release. Some stuff on Quosh Digital and 24/7 suffer the same thing.

I really wouldn?t be pursuing this issue if it?s only small like as previously mentioned by DJ_FunDaBounce Dougal & Gammer Right Here By My Side. Which Is tolerable.

I'm on a different computer now, but perhaps it would be useful if I have a listen to my copy to see if I can still hear the issues on my mp3s.

I hear it too, and that's playing my CD rip (flac) in Reaper through an expensive thunderbolt interface. I also hear it primarily on the right channel, including that one significant burst of distortion.

As I did last time, I can only guess bad loudneess war mastering. The piano intro and vocals alone push it a sample peak of 0.5 dB, and it goes up to 1.3 shortly after the percussion and bass kick in. It makes sense that the distortion is worse on the right channel because it's about 3 dB louder than the left. Just looking at the waveform and listening, it's obvious they pushed this thing as hard as they could with compression and limiting. The waveform is a solid brick and there are no dynamics at all. Dull, flat, boring sound.

Does anyone know when 32-bit float became standard in DAWs? This was released in 2012, but I can imagine the distortion being introduced in the mastering phase if they used a 16-bit or 24-bit workflow.

Hardcore Heaven 5 has this issue at 9 Minutes 55 seconds in the Fracus & Darwin Mix. It is harder to hear than the Clubland example but its still there.

I hope behind the scenes things are going on to address this.

I promise you Hardcore will not be able to bring in younger audiences if this continues. As consumer sound equipment gets better more people will hear and be put off by this.

Perhaps I'm extremely sensitive to high frequency noises. I can't go anywhere near shops with those buzzy things. Or near a CRT TV. Or even when i'm having ultra sounds done I can hear the high pitch frequencies and its painful.

Perhaps it doesn't effect most people but I still think there shouldn't be these crackles in modern music that is all so post to be digital and clean. I listen to a lot of music and It's only in certain hardcore releases I can hear this.

Another example is Skeets - Letting Go Released on Executive Records in 2011. The filter sweep at 50 seconds is very crackly. It was the first time I ever noticed this back in 2011 but I wrote it off as it was only 1 track. I thought nothing of it until it happened more and more.

I'm sorry to say it, but I think you're overly sensitive to it. Any normal consumer will never really care about background noise.

Honestly I think it's only going to get in the way if you are sensitive to those issues; others will hear it, I hear it, but it doesn't effect me as it feels part of the music, the sound blends in.

I know where you are coming from though, as somebody who also 'suffers' from misophonia if the sound that I was sensitive to was actually *part* of the music, that would infuriate me to the point that I wouldn't be able to listen to the music at all. So I do get where you're coming from.

Are we talking about the high frequency crackly buzz on the piano when the D,E,D,E hit's with the low key(D?) at 00:12?

Just gave it another go, this time with my monitors on (yamies) (previous plays were through my ath-m50's ).

If it's the buzz/crackle thing on the right speaker at :12 then, yeah it's there for me, too.

To me though it just sounds like bad encoding.

and even then, are we not used to things like that happening?

...here's to pushing 42!

That bit that is prominent in the filtered version kind of reminds me of the distortion you can get from time-to-time when encoding to mp3.

Bringing the bitrate down would make it sound "watered down" in the broader present spectrum, but with enough bandwidth it only affects the very high end frequencies.

I'd be curious to know if there was any digital conversion along the way...Everyone likes to master a little differently.

I wouldn't dwell on it; It'll likely not bother you in 10-15 years anyways...

To me this sound sounds amplified over the rest of the track when I hear it it?s louder than the track usually. But I?m willing to admit I?m overly sensitive to it. It?s really effecting my ability to listen to music. It could be something brought on by my genetic conditions in the development on my ears or brain. My genetic condition does effect development pretty much everywhere. Including hearing. Will have to look in to it as it?s getting worse for me. If I lose the ability to listen to music I really do have nothing left.

I hear it not just at 0.12 but all throughout the piano on every long piano note. It?s in a selection of things which is why I brought it up. If all music sounded like that then fair enough but it?s with a few specific things but is getting more common as time goes on. If it really is only me who is effected by it then I?m willing to concede. I don?t want to upset anyone I just thought there was a big problem. But perhaps there isn?t and I?m a unique case.
