Artcore is to do with drum'n'bass, it evolved from drum'n'bass and experiemental hardcore. it's a mashup of noise and is dark as hell! and yeh darkcore is anything dark to the core.... this can be dark drum'n'bass and dark hardcore.
Hakke-style < I was joking on that one coz this genre game is a silly one....never the less it sounds like a good name infact YEH! i've just invented it so I'm happy LOL
I so agree with you on Hardstlye, it's basically Dutch Hardhouse with a difference and has nothing good about it and is yet another excuse to get more nazi's at raves

ok I dont' normally like arguements but I feel like an argument now but not in a bad way but to help me cause I struggle on this one (so please, some one come along and argue!!!) 1996... In Holland, I've seen alot of posts where the Dutch back then claim they DIDN'T know what the "Happy" stuff was and some say if they had heard of it they didn't like it.....EH? Thunderdome 8 to 14 is FULL of HAPPY HAPPY sounds, you Dutch are really strange! Dutch hardcore thinks it's all guns out and war but really, alot of "Oldskool" gabber tracks sounded like UK Happyhardcore.... e.g. Jiiiiahaia by Diss Reaction... that was on a thunderdome CD and that is VERY happy, so come on, let's start the argument!

ohyeh, I was hoping when Knightmare said:

newstyle (slow, bouncy gabber)

he'd also put in the brakets, uses 4/4-Tripplet and not 4/4-Straight hence why he put 'bouncy'

sorry if this confuses anyone but anyone with a skill in the time signatures, this will help you alot!

The way i always saw it was

1:Hardcore - anything that wasnt to happy
2:Happy Hardcore - hardcore but, happy lol
3:Freeform - a darker more "sythed up" hardcore style

and finally

4:gabber - harder and faster (tends to have a more THUMPY bassline.

its worked so far....

styles are morphing and changing - it was so easy at the start lol

"an idiot must be right by chance once in a while"

Not good with time sigs, sorry.
And the "Happy" on the old thunderdomes is not all happy, but in the timespan of 95/96 there was a lot of happy gabber on it indead, but the difference with what they considered in holland and surroundings as happy hardcore was still knowdessable. The ones on the thunderdomes where still pretty bass-orientated and now considered slightly happy ol'skool gabber, the ones more happy (like the paul elstak trax) where considered happy hardcore.

ill just stick to my definition of hardcore genres that is helpful for newbies like myself

old happy hard
ol not happyhard
new happy/UK hardcore
freeform (almost same as new happy/UK but a bit more serious)
un-happy

and ther ya have it..

ANybody wanna donate some cash to the "Turntables for Gav fund?" ~ If you don't, you could be to blame for the demise of happy hardcore!

They do!

Pigeonholes are useful for pinning down your tastes in music but at the end of the day, just buy/play anything you think is GOOD. It don't matter which sub-sub-sub-sub section it comes under.

"It's all just hardcore", etc etc.

They could all just name it hardcore, but THAT would confuse me. I'm a gabber fanatic, but when I joined this site, I was still used to calling it hardcore (no-one uses the word gabber for this kind of music around here, just hardcore) and I saw all these ppl talking about hardcore and I though "damn, they ain't talking about the same trax I am", after reading a few posts I figured out the happy hardcore was just called hardcore, freeform was also refered to as trancecore (which is very different from our trancecore, the trancecore I know and love ). All these term-differences where quite confusing at first, but now, I got used to it, and if I need to know a song I can specify it to y'all and you'll all have a rough Idea in what area of hardcore to go look.
It takes some getting used to, but it has helped me find tracknames and stuff a lot easier than when I just use the term hardcore.

thats the problem is that everyone who is only been introduced to the 'local' meaning of hardcore assumes that everything else must be something else....
I usually just call what i like: "hardcore, but none of the dark angry stuff"

It's all hardcore... just use the labels or DJ styles to define it :)
