Just interested to see what software people are using for recording sets? I am using a free one called wavepad. it's pretty decent actually. I went onto this after having loads of problems with audacity sounding like a CD skipping, even though i was setting it to a higher priority, switching wifi off, closing background items etc etc

Controller -> Roland Dual RCA Interconnect -> Behringer UCA222 U-Control USB Audio Interface -> Sound Forge 11 Pro

need Behringer drivers for 48khz/24bit : or try anywhere with the same filename https://workupload.com/file/xnZ8yAR

its the ghetto man's way of doing this live with no tweaking needed after

NEVER set ANY Windows processes to anything other than NORMAL priority. It wont help you.

Just close down all unnecessary programs that are running and run all windows programs you need running in normal prio.

Considering I use virtualdj to mix, I already got that. But other than that I'd use soundforge as well. for a free program, audacity should suffice.

if you want to be a DJ, you need sound forge as it is the only program with RMS normalize. where -12db will be -12db on all professional hardware that runs on RMS watts, if a track is well engineered, you will never have to touch the gain control on the mixer after after the EQ centers

I try to record it as quiet as possible and then use soundforge to normalize the mix

I do my best to retreive at least two copies when playing out:

MCX8000 Booth Out -> [TASCAM DR-05] ( -> Booth monitors)
VDJ8 Rec (Limiter off) -> [Laptop]

After the set's done I'll move the file off the field recorder to the Laptop as well.

When I'm doing a live show at home, I'll also have a third copy in the stream recording, but that's directly encoded to AAC 320k in OBS, and only as a last resort.

NCH WavePad isn't too intensive on the CPU, but skipping issues are usually related to a potato PC being used to record. If the output is very clean you might be better off just recording externally (was part of the reason I got the field recorder in the first place, but my computer has become significantly more powerful since then).

If your audio interface is being used with ASIO drivers, try it without first (you should have a separate device for windows in your device list) to see if the crackling goes away. ASIO is time sensitive, and dropouts can happen if the software can't keep up.

Oh my gosh, I though it was just me! I recorded a mix through the new version of VDJ and when I went back and listened, the recorded volume was so low.

I have noticed that virtualdj (at least 7.x) is limiting the volume of the tracks for "normalizing sake". I dont play around with that since I haven't played live since 2006-07 and so I just use sony/magix sound forge for normalization instead.
