yeah, i made a song. i could say more about it, but it's my second day of quitting smoking and i feel miserable. anyway, i'd be interested in people's opinions:

kewl, im glad 2 c sum1 who shares my intrest in makin there own tunes up. ive listerned 2 ur tune and i fink itz gd (especialy 4 ur first song) i know ov this software that u can download compleatly free where u can make ur own drum loops up and save them as wav files http://www.threechords.com/hammerhead/

wot gear do u use? software/hardware etc..

actually, pretty much all the sounds were either from my keyboard (yamaha p90, those strings on it are amazing...) or from samplezone.org (the drums). as for software, i only used acid and vokator. thanks for the link, i'll check out that software.

i don't know for drum boxes. a friend of mine just bought reason recently and is raving about how awesome it is, so i might try that out a bit. otherwise, i've thought about getting one of those electronic full-size kits w/ midi out. that way i can use the onboard accoustic sounds and midi to electronic sounds as needed (i played set for about 6 years).
i think either of those options would save me a lot of time though, as for this song i mapped out each drum beat individually (i didn't use any loops). i like the way they turned out, but it took a while...

theres a type ov instroment on the market now called a "groovebox" this is like a drum machine wiv synth and bass loops built in, basically it duz all the work 4 ya, ***** yeh lol! but but u can stil cum up wiv sum really orginal stuff. personaly ive got a roldand d2 http://www.gearpreview.com/music/dj/d2.html
i really like it cuz u can cut n paste stuff from preset paterns change the sounds etc... oh yeh and u can plug a keyboard in it vire midi and play the sounds of it. its kewl, maybe u shuld think about investing in sumthin like that

Don't take it too personally, it's just constructive criticism, but the bass line is awful, find different drum samples or make your own with stomper (http://www.lysator.liu.se/~zap/stomper/index2.html). Your keyboard has great strings and they would sound amazing with a good bassline

i don't take cricism personally at all--in fact i appreciate it much. i think i would rather find better base samples than create my own (i don't think i'm ready yet to actually sculpt my own sound waves). i do like laying out the patterns beat by beat myself (instead of using widely available loops), but i could certainly do with better samples. is there a good place to buy or -- even better -- freely (and legally) download better base samples...specifically for a hardcore sound?

The Roland MC-909 (the most powerful Groovebox, most likely the one you're thinking of) does NOT do everything for you. The groovebox has some demo templates built in but honestly, if you're going to drop $1,500 on a piece of equipment you might as well know how to make your own loops. The groovebox is a full self-contained portable studio; it has a 16-channel mixer, mastering facilities, a couple synths (two, I think) and tons of sampling facilites (and lots of good samples.) If you're going to buy one of those, don't fool yourself in to thinking it'll do everything for you; if you want to get quality music from it you're going to have to put in as much effort as a professional artist.
