If you are one of those , who is annoyed with the way the big 5 record companies (RIAA) control the media, (for example, by paying radio stations to play their tracks and to keep independent music of all forms off the air) and therefore prefer not to buy music from major labels then here is a website that may of interest to you.
http://www.magnetbox.com/riaa/ You can find out whether the RIAA is or is not behind the so-called underground music cd you were planning to buy before you buy it, by using this link. One piece of good news discovered from this site, is that the Bonkers and Happy 2b Hardcore series are not released by a member of the RIAA. ( I actually had a suspicion that React was owned by one of the members!)

But there is nothing new here? Labels have always been paying radio stations to play their stuff for 10-20 years now. If people actually had a clue of music they would know they are listening to crap :)
But the RIAA has nothing to do with that, the RIAA does not control the music played anywhere, the labels and the media outlets do... so these are seperate issues....
If you really wanted to get angry about someone I would not get angry at the RIAA I would get angry at Clear Channel which own's nearly every radio station in America and controls like 70% of the market.
95% of all artists are represented by the RIAA, and not the labels.... The facts here are so messy.

thats why every single radio station has pretty much the same playlist.

But why do 90% of the radio stations play all the same stuff which is pop, yet loads of other groups going through the RIAA don't get airplay?!?!?!?
facts are 90% of artists are signed to a label that goes through RIAA yet only 30% get the airtime they desrve!!!

the labels and such pay for the airtime, not the RIAA, labels whore out who they think will earn them the most money to get them on the air and get them big.

You got to remember most people that listen to radio stations are not music lovers they just want something to tap their feet to and for teenage girls to gossip about... This is the majority of the people out there, so radio stations play for those people.

Yeah, you have a great point there. If only internet radio was so easily accessible.... Then choice would not be restricted. But teenage girls don't really want choice, they just want to fit in with Fashion.
One of my female friends said to me the other day "In my magazine , it says dance music is going out of fashion." yes, she is a stereotypical teenage blonde beauty queen type!, it says it all really.

yer i suppose there is sum sort of sinister evil music monopoly lurking in the industrys corners.
But if the music is really gud word will be spread slipknot achieved great success even they had absolutely no tv or radio coverage. Many people who hate "mosher" music say they h8 slipknot when they hav never heard them or seen them anywhere.

Yeah, but Slipknot did benefit from the bad publicity as well as the good, because some people like the concept of the band's insanity, simply because the townies hate them. Some like the clown/freak show element, some people did go to the show the see the performance even though they hate the actual music. (Should this be in the music of other genre column now?)
Radio 1 did play them on their rock shows, but I didn't hear them on Hallam or any other big station ever.
