Being into hardcore since the the revival I was trying to clear the "score" of the hardcore scene. Form what I have heard; it should be something like this.
-Breakbeat - late 80's-93 - (still going, but not like it was)
-Cheesy Hardcore- 93-95(96?) - (Like Slipmat)
-Oldskool Hardcore- 96-99 - (Can you say FORCE & STYLES)
-Death- 99-00- (RIP)
-Revial- 2001 (Fall)- Thx to Scott Brown Breeze and Styles for Elysuim and Future Set.
-New Style 01-??
-Euphoric (Trancy) Hardcore - Ravery Baby and Essitial Platnium
-Freeform SHARKEY and the like
Scott Brown
-New Style Gabber- like Do not attempt, Gosts.
-other evo sound that I cant classify.

-Old Skool Happy Hardcore 93-95
-Stompy Happy Hardcore- 96-99

happy hardcore, once it progressed from prodominatly breakbeat oriented to kickdrum driven.. force and styles were a good example as you said..

i noticed you did sort of a time progression thing....but Freeform has been around since 96 or so even before i believe with some GBT stuff. I dunno if you just mentioned freeform at then end mentioning styles, but it has been around for a long time

I don't really think there is a progression of hardcore. More of a progression until 99 when hardcore basically split up into many different styles. So actually, it split into different genres, not progressed.

I was around from the start of HH and in 95' was when the 'stomp' sound & style came in and overtook the more rolling breakbeat which was dominated by seduction & vibes.. the stomp sound was enforced by force & styles but again that was just fusing north & southern styles...
it is the place that you live that guarantees the style & sound of a particular genere of music that one has access too & predominalty will like...

also breakbeat is doin really well now
its broke up into stuff like nu skool beats and newer sounding oldskool
alot of breaktbeat hardcore is gettin made now by ppl such as luna c, ham, robbie long, stromtooper, whizbit and clsm.
i would say it woz just Future Set and Elysium that got hardcore back to where it is. i fink future set told us were are now gonna go from strength to strength but yeah tracks like elysium, about u - dna and stuff around early 2000 that got the ball rolling
