i think it's refreshing to give the odd new DJ a shot in a big venue. there have been quite a few lately at events like slammin and hardcore heaven though ..... think the balance is enough to keep it interesting but not so many it puts people off coming!

I have to agree with that
but the thing that really pi$$es me off is these crappy DJ comps "win a chance to get £0.50p record voucher @HMV who don@t stock fck-all and a set at shiteville club" then the "winner" (comps are usually fixed anyway) gets a set at shitevilles club.... WTF?? WHY!
I went to Helter Skelters 1998 or 9's 20,000+ outdoor 8 arena rave and the winners of the competitions who played (well the 4 DJ's I heard) were ALL SH1T£ one DJ played the SAME CHOON 4 times in half an hour and couldn't even mix! what a waste - a decent DJ could have used that space with a decent mc who need recognition....

I could go on. All wicked! Ive heard sets from theese guys and others and the question is Why aint they playing the sanctury? Its about time more up and comings were given a chance! Sure we've got some wicked DJs on the scene but most of the main names are approaching middle age now and it could end up getting elitist if young blood and fresh talent is kept hidden away.

congrats DJ mouse i can understand some of the competitions seem a bit cheesey but i cant think of many other ways of discovering tallent. if you gave people a chance in the box straight off you might get some shocking sets, and the events would suffer as a result.

well done! DJ Mouse... (I was generalising about these comps - if you entered and it was all normal then you obviously are very good and skilled - so hold your head up high mate)
to be honest with you I worked with a promoter who done a comp and it was pretty much a fix... the other thing is.. why should you have to enter a comp just to get a DJ set (again generalising - this is not always the case)
A friend of mine was short listed for a competition and played along side a selection of other DJ's. He played, by far, the best set of the nite (and I am being totally honest about that - not being bias) but a DJ for Diehard in Leicester won. When the comp was finished, he came over and admitted that it was pre-determined win and my friend played far better than he did.

haha know what ya mean. because i've played at vibealite before in the up and comers room, loads of people accused the comp of being fixed so that i win. but it wasn't the case.
only downside is i'll probably be on first when no one's about. never been too keen on going first, always better to have loads stomping away :D
