Event name: Back To Basics
Starts: 2004/4/10
Country: Canada
Province: Ontario

On Saturday April 10th, 2004, two of Hamilton's leading electronic music production companies are taking you Back to the Basics. After literally months of searching for that perfect venue, Round Table Records and Soundbwoy Entertainment are ready to deliver a night that Steel Town hasn't experienced in many years. By changing venues and bringing in fresh talent, as well as a concept collaboration between companies, we're planning on making this a night to remember in 2004!

Room 1 - Hard Dance Arena

Paladin
(Parts Unknown?!?, DamnDj's - Toronto)

The PALADIN Project goes beyond the DJ/Live PA utilizing a fully integrated audio/visual system that incorporates all aspects of DJ'ing, live performance and visuals into one unit. The PALADIN 5.o system features: 1/4 inch thick green Photo luminescent armor plating mounted to a composite inner shell, a back mounted forced air cooling system with digital temperature gauge, on board CCDTV video system with a wireless transmitter and colour 2" LCD display, center mounted real time spectrum analyzer, 4w halogen lighting system, wireless voice system and .5mW laser. This combination of technology and music is a one of a kind system - that creates a unique vibe in any room. When PALADIN 5.o comes to town...

Be prepared!

Dr. Trance
(Destiny, TTC, DamnDj's - Toronto)

"Expect nothing but the best sounds that Trance has to offer from this wacky Toronto trance icon." Often referred to as "The Godfather" of the legendary Toronto rave scene, Dr. Trance is in reality veteran radio broadcaster Don Berns, whose credits include CFNY (Toronto), KLIF (Dallas) and WKBW (Buffalo). In 1991, when CFNY decided its modern rock focus should follow guitars, Berns decided to follow the burgeoning electronic music scene instead, eventually following the siren call of the more melodic, uplifting music and being dubbed Dr. Trance at a rave in 1992. Berns has been a promoter (Nitrous, Atlantis, Effective) a DJ (Canada, U.S., UK), and radio host: The Dr. Trance Radio Program has aired on such Toronto area radio stations as Energy 108, Hot 103.5 and Power 88.5; Technopolis became the outgrowth of that show and was part of the original Global Groove Network in Toronto.

Drag n Fly
(Just 1 Fix, School, Darkrave, Destiny, Big Kahuna - Toronto)

Toronto based Dj Drag’N’fly has an appreciation for all types of music. However, it was the punk and dark industrial eras of the 80’s and early 90’s that influenced him in his choices to spin Dark Trance & Hard House music. While it would be a mistake to try and confine him to a single genre, a typical set played out by Dj Drag’N’fly consists of two essential components: 1) An incredibly positive and enthusiastic physical stage presence, coupled with 2) HARD BANGING BASS!

Catchin' Wreck aka Dj Lush & Natural Mc
(Trouble On Vinyl, Renegade Rec., Hustlin Beats - Toronto)

CATCHIN' WRECK is the production alias, as well as the "live show, stage concept" of DJ LUSH and MC L NATURAL. Lush and Natural are both highly accomplished, respected and requested veterans of the Toronto scene, playing week in week out at all of the major clubs and raves in Toronto and across North America.

Formerly known as MC Recka, L.Natural’s completely unique voice, delivery and lyrical flow have mesmerized crowds across the continent for the last eight years, allowing him to emcee over the sets of virtually every big name UK DJ, and solidifying his position as a top MC in North America. His trademark B-boy/ragga tinged flow is coupled with a knowledge and respect for the music that allows for the perfect balance between ‘crowd hyping lyrics’ and letting the music breath. (a skill seemingly forgotten by many of today’s MC’s) Not content with simply being a “rave-mc”, Natural has been steadily building his profile as a producer, lyricist and artist; raising the bar for other emcees to aspire.

DJ Lush is widely regarded as one of the undisputed top dog DJ’s in Canada. His reputation for playing the most up front selection coupled with his trademark rollin’ mixing style have earned him the moniker “the DJ’s DJ”. It is with the crowd however that Lush has built his name. While highly recognized by his peers as a DJ that breaks new music, it is Lush’s extensive experience behind the decks reading crowds that enable him to know how to play any crowd, be it the raviest “anthems only” all ages set or the most discerning trainspotters. Refusing to be pigeonholed, Lush plays the full circumference of styles and flava’s with the underlying theme always being feeling and soul.

In the studio, Catchin’ Wreck are firing on all four cylinders at the moment with current releases on Trouble on Vinyl (Here Comes Trouble vol. 10), MC Fearless’ Hustlin’ Beats imprint (Bonanza/Natty alongside regular collaborator Jesta), as well as a forthcoming release on UK heavyweight Renegade Hardware (“Catastrophe” alongside No-U turn artist Rukkus). These releases mark the start of what looks set to be a longstanding relationship with these labels. In the pipeline as well, is a remix of MC Navigators new vocal project the “Raw Hill Cru”. Natural and Lush teamed up with Rukkus again for this mix of the Raw Hill Cru’s “More Fiya” which features the vocals of Navigator, Tenor Fly, Spyda, Soultrain and Shabba D and will be released through the German imprint U3R in the summer time. Currently the boys are working on a number of projects including some full vocal tracks, featuring L. Natural with other MC’s and vocalists, there are also some studio collaboration projects with other Toronto producers, in addition to their own Catchin’ Wreck material. Lush and Natural are gearing up for a busy release schedule over the next few months on a variety of different labels.

Illfingas
(Fortress, Jedi, Furious - Toronto)

Illfingas meteoric rise in the global drum and bass scene began in the mid 1990's when his first single "Another Sound" helped to launch the Canadian flagship drum and bass label, Vinyl Syndicate Recordings. Since then, this DJ/producer has conquered virtually every level of the industry, both in North America and abroad.

As one of the most technically skilled DJs anywhere, Illfingas has translated his patented techniques of cross-fader mayhem and double rewind mega-mixes into more than half a decade of satisfied dancefloors, and the list of talent he has played alongside reads like a who's who of international d&b legends. That list includes spots on both Goldie and Dillinja's world tours in Toronto, as well as having played alongside the likes of Grooverider, Jumpin' Jack Frost, Roni Size and Reprazent, Breakbeat Era, Bad Company, Andy C, Mickey Finn and so many more. Having covered most of North America's hot spots in the last two years, Illfingas has torn the roof off in cities from coast to coast, and his 2000 Canadian tour with DJ Rap only solidified his position both at home and elsewhere. Anyone who has witnessed a live performance of this DJ will testify to the absolutely undeniable skills and stage presence of this inspired artist.

On the production tip, Illfingas has been at the forefront of the North American contingent since day one, releasing smash after smash for such prominent labels as Vinyl Syndicate, JedI Records, Crunk Records, Furious Records, Moonshine's CD compilations, as well as his own imprint, Fortress Recordings. In several years as a producer, Illfingas tracks have been played by many legendary U.K. DJ's , including Mickey Finn, Aprhrodite, Randall, Nicky Blackmarket, Ray Keith and others. Most recently, Illfingas' super smash hit "The Whitney Dub" has received worldwide recognition and regular play from many of the U.K.'s a-list DJs, and has generated tremendous interest in his remixing services.

(Empire, Hustlin Beats - Toronto)

Diligence has been in the Toronto DJ circuit for 8 years. He started out spinning House music in 1993-94 and turned to Hip-Hop in 1995-96. Diligence is the co-owner of Hustlin’ Beats Recordings, a Canadian based record label. His partners are DJ Ruckus (Can) and MC/DJ Fearless (UK). The first release “How Ya Mean” and “F*ck Em Off” produced by the G-Squad was out in February 2001. The year 2004 will be an exciting one for Diligence and the Hustlin’ Beats camp with new releases already lined up for the label. ………DJ DILIGENCE!!

Ds-1(Furious, dj-ds1.com - Toronto)

DS-1 has taken on the Toronto drum'n'bass Circuit by force, and shows no sign of backing down.
With his first release 'Wishing on a Star' making alot of noise, his follow up, the ragga anthem 'Girls Town' should be hitting shelves in early 2004. Check out www.dj-ds1.com and see what the noise is about......
