For this weeks special guest slot (Sun 28th Mar 6-8pm GMT) we welcome DJ Elmo & DJ Vapour they run hardcore, drum and bass and techno event Vibealive, below is a short profile on each of them.

DJ ELMO

Dj Elmo (real name Ian Lydon-James) comes from Brighton on the south coast of England and is 23 years old. Elmo first got into hardcore in 1990 and hasn’t really looked back since, his favourite style is happy and bouncy vocal hardcore with phat piano breakdowns and big uplifting riffs and this normally reflects in the tracks he makes and the sets he plays. This is not to say that he doesn’t like dark tracks as he is a big fan of nu style gabba too. Elmo himself started dj’ing properly in 1998 and played at house parties mainly because there were no clubs that did hardcore in Brighton, so he decided enough was enough and in July 1999 the first Vibealive happened which was a mixture of hardcore, drum and bass and techno. Only two nights were done as the nights flopped but valuable experience was gained from it. Between 1999 and 2001 not a lot really happened as the hardcore scene was completely dead down south hard house was the music of the moment and he helped out in the scene for a while at a night called Orions Gate. It wasn’t until mid 2001 that Elmo started buying new hardcore vinyl from wax city London and also started learning the basics of music production on a Roland MC-303, realising this machine couldn’t cut it anymore Elmo met dj Impact at future dance early in 2002 and went up to his studio to start making tunes properly soon after came a contract from FBI recordings. He then started Vibealive again in the summer of 2002 with dj swampy (Not to be confused with Twisted Systems Swampy B), pushing the new sound of hardcore and in late 2002 linked up with dj vapour and from there didn’t look back. 2003 has been a roller coaster ride of gigs, together with vapour they have played up and down the country and as Elmo’s alter ego MC I.D.E (ian da elmo) he has been making a reputation as a complete hardcore nutter on the mic and loves every minute of it and both of them have pleased crowds wherever they’ve played .so they decided to make a track together and it got signed by Masterwax Records. 2004 looks like its going to be a busy year for elmo as he too is building up a studio of his own so expect to hear lots more tunes from him soon as well as setting up his own label and with more Vibealives planned and confirmed bookings expect to see a lot more of him too.

I hadn't heard of them until I bought the new Speed Trance Type 4 CD and I really liked the tunes they had on it, so I will be definately be looking out for more of their releases in the future.

I've known these 2 for about a year now, and its rewarding as one of their m8s and mc's for their events.

Elmo is a wicked producer and his production levels are always crisp tidy and has made some AMAZING choons. As an MC Elmo or I.D.E shall I say has some good hype and is an entertainer on the stage and mes sure the people have a good time!

Vapour is a very outstanding DJ. The skills the man has got on the decks are very sexy always good tight mixes and often has a very good tune selection!

The pair work well toghether on tunes or promoting thier night!

Big up boyz!!
