Alright UK fella here. I have been listening to Hardcore since 96. Anyone been listening that long may think the same as me. That happy Hardcore is not so happy now. This is how I feel. Take Bonkers 3, typical happy tunes like Fly Away and Toytown and Lovers Wondrland. These days you don't get anything remotely like this. I understand that times are changing. But you can't call it happy anymore. Not much of it. Anyone agree or disagree all views are welcome.

Hey just another thing. For those out there who know me, and said I was into fairground music. Look at hardcore now, back with a bigger beat. Still I prefer the happier days. But hardcore never did die.....it just went on holiday.

alot of the lyrics that are around are just as cheesy/happy as they used to be, i would say the happyier melodies are gone though

Happy Hardcore was always called Hardcore anyways. I love the older stuff alot more than whats coming out today. Hardcore still is happy, it just depends on what cds/dj's you listen too. There is some new stuff coming out that is still bouncey and has cheesey lyrics like "Moonlight Sky" and "I can Shine"; stuff that has really uplifting melodies and everything. Raver Baby isnt the only hardcore label, there are others that release diffrent stuff. Try listening to DJ Anabolic Frolic, he ALWAYS gets the brighter stuff thats coming out today..

I still seem to hear happy in a lot of tunes. Listen to IDR, Quosh, and Rave n' Beats. There may not be anymore CHEESE, but there are happy tunes still.

The Dj's at Hardcore Uproar last month was playin a more happier vibe in there music which is good to see but i guess only time will tell if the happier side will return.

i belive we are all hoping on this but if things go the rite way for us all then bring back the Piano as that was a big influence on some of our best tracks released as of date but the producers now days are goin for that hard effect which dont give you the uplift that the OLD vibe did

Im sorry but piano is used so much nowa days anyway what are you talking about raverbaby? Euphoria is better than happy for the dance floors neway. Happy has that dnb aspect to it of listening to one bar of it and youve got it

It's still happy it's just not cheezy, as for makina, it used to be extremely cheezy, still great stuff, but these days its getting more like UK Hardcore, and I have to admit some of it is sounding amazing

When i say Happy Hardcore I mean eg 96-2000 ...These days I just say Uk hardcore or so ...Some people call it Happy hardcore and Its like saying Old skool is Happy Hardcore...Is it? No ...It evolved(Seperate ways) Just like it did in 2000 .....Im see'ing the Happier vibe coming back..But im definetly not tagging it Happy Hardcore...For several reasons ...All the little kidies go 'ooo happy hardcore and think its an artist etc which is annoying..Also the name is annoying...I think it better suits with the Old stuff....I dont think the new stuff has been tagged yet...Im not going to call it Trancy hardcore ......Just Uk hardcore or so ....

Thats my view on it

'Happy Hardcore' has never been a proper style of music, just a nickname given to the uplifting 4 to the floor hardcore that evolved from the spilt around 93 - 94. Other names like 'toytown techno' were also used.

Hardcore is hardcore at the end of the day and there's so much variety theese days! If you listen to say a dreamscape pack from the day..lets say '97 for example, most of the mainstream djs (dougal/hixxy/sy/force n styles ect), a lot of the tracks from the djs were the same from tape to tape.
The upside of the so called 'dying out' (it never died, just changed adress!) period of 2000-2001 was that the djs spent more time in the studio and created their own style and brand of hardcore which has given us the variety and diversity of the scene we have today.

Hardcore forever!!

Hardcore is the passion of the chosen....

yeah definatly it is the vocal lyrics which make it so cheesy and happy. and as DjTriquatra rightly says, the happy melody has way gone from hardcore. That went years ago.
