I was wondering why records ever go out of print.I think you should be able to call the manufacturer and get one 20 years later.I think mass people want records from "the good old days"
Would it really be that much of a pain in the ass to always have some on hand or make a batch when the old batch is gone as long as people still want the record?

Well part of the problem is probably the fact that the Hardcore scene is so small. Usually (if I'm not mistaken) pressing plants will only do bulk orders in most cases. Most, if not all of the Hardcore labels can't really afford to take a risk on pressing an old record. That's how I look at it anyway.

yeah but there are types of marketing ways to get rid of that stack of old records.
1)put that old recod into a double with a new record so that people feel they are gettin a free record and this will boost sales on that new record.
2)sell it at a discounted price
3)at least in some cases where the price of the record hits like 40 pounds there and like 60$ here re- realese that sukka at a nice fair 15 pounds or 20 $.
If a record reaches enourmous prices it should be re-realeased simple as that in my opinion because that means that there are a lot of people that want it.
And probe you have a good point there so don't get me wrong on this .To me it seems an old classic that goes for $$$$$ on e-bay should still sell like crazy as a regular repressed vinyl.

I think it could be done but it's just easier to put all of the budget into releasing new tracks instead of re-pressing older songs. It's just a bit too fiddly and expensive to bother with until the scene gets a bit bigger. think they only do it if there's a really big demand for the older tune.
like everybody wishing Hixxy'd re-press "you're shining" so we don't have to pay £30 for it on ebay!

it's a bit annoying, but it makes old records more collectable. If you have lots of records from the past then it shows how long you've been spinnin hardcore. I'm not a collector or anything, but if I was, I'd be annoyed if every new DJ could easily pick up copies of all the old favs I'd had from when they were first around!

if you shop around you can usually get most records you want at a fairly decent price. just wait around and usually you can find a pretty decent deal from someone who no longer plays those records.
a lot of records from years past the original dats or whatever are usually lost/destroyed making it difficult to repress things.
i personally think repressing stuff defeats the purpose of owning a select group of rarities you can drop.

to get 20 repressed is rediculous
vinyl places will charge a setup fee for runs under 250, making it usualy not worth it
people do repress tho, raverbaby and other labels seem to consistantly repress there current stuff in shops ...

Labels see it this way... Basically unless you are going to sell another 100-250 (which is like the min. from pressing plants) on the re-press why would you spend a whole bunch of money to sell 20 units and have 230 records just collecting dust.
