after reading a recent post made by j_a_c_k (don't mean to single you out mate) i thought it was about time to REALLY debate the use of shorthand typing for every single word. i'm told it's a welsh thing??? but it doesn't happen on any other forums i visist so maybe it is. here's my reasons that people shouldn't use it:
1) the questions/posts are mostly decipherable. i'm sure i'm not the only one who has to read one of these posts 4-5 times to try to work out what you're actually saying.
2) it makes the writer seem, to me at least, to be of less than standard intelligence. i'm sure you're just as smart as the rest of us, possibly more so, but you're generally giving a bad first impression, and probably don't realise it.
3) i honestly have trouble believing that it's faster. do you use it to type your school/uni assignments? don't you have to think about what you're going to type for a word instead of the real word???? is 'gud' & 'lyk' any faster/easier to type than 'good' & 'like' - factoring in that instead of writing the real word you actually have to think about writing the alternate one?
can't think of anything more at the moment. just wanted to have a bitc about it....

I won't say I agree, just that I'm definatly not a fan of it, and I don't like reading posts that are typed in that way.

But if you spoke like that here, people would think you've never received an education or something...?

It's not a welsh thing, coz i've never had problems reading radiokate's posts. For me what makes it really hard to read is when theres no dots.
btw, first read the topic subject typers as typerys, witch means stupid/idiot in finnish

i personally dont have a problem with the shorthand, or even bad writing. its when the order of the words dont make any sence, and thats what annoyed me abou the topic.

changed just for you [:P]
yeah it seems like sometimes people go out of their way to type like that. they say its easier and more like spoken language but when you read it it's barely close...

It's certainly not just a Welsh thing, a lot of Irish people type "shorthand" too.
Mole: I thought it was "guid"?

Imo = In my opinion.
I'm not really a fan of this shorthand stuff either.

well, from articles i've read, its all developed because of text messaging, when yuor limited to 160 letters, you need to shortern words to fit it all in, the sad thing is, people do it normally now when they write on forums, msn messenger blah blah etc etc...i wonder if they have problems at school when they write papers essays...
personally i think its just lazy, and no offense to them, but it does seem to be most popular with the people who are 13-17
